It's a bit confusing to fold back into the pocket. I really liked the footprint from my MSR3. The buckle clips we're secure and intuitive. There's nothing like that on this footprint.

I used it twice, once just for back packing into the wilderness. The other time was for Bow hunting season and it worked flawless both times with tent Hubba 3P from MSR. ??

I think it would be better to have a footprint specific to the model tent that I have because the universal size isn't a perfect fit. I have a FreeLite 2 tent and the universal footprint is about 3inches small in width and length..

I read all the reviews before purchasing this MSR footprint and I thought to myself, all of these folks must not understand the design behind this product. There has got to be a reason for the way the pouch is designed and attached to the footprint. I have tried about 20 times to fit the footprint in it over two bikepacking trips, and gave up and did just like everyone else when I got home: pulled out the scissors and cut the darn thing off. Other than being on the expensive side, the footprint is light does what it's meant to, and tying small knots in the cords works great instead of metal grommets. Given the $800 price tag for the hubba bubba bikepacking tent, I don't understand why this small sheet of nylon isn't included with the tent.

I also was disappointed after purchasing the Universal footprint 2 for my new Hubba Bubba NX 2 to learn that it needed a modification to be used for the fast and light setup with the rainfly without the tent. All I did was tie a single overhand knot in each of the four loops at the corners of the footprint. Tie the knot tight as close to the gray strap as you can get it, making the new little loop smaller than than the pole end. Now wiggle the pole end into the new little loop which will open the loop enough for the pole end and further tighten the knot. The pole end should slip into the loop, but not the larger diameter section of the pole. Repeat at each corner.

Saw someone's very helpful review and I thought I'd just add a little more detail with this picture. Takes a little bit to open the washers, but after you figure out the first, the rest becomes easier. Tested after and it works! I bought the Universal 2 Person Regular.

I agree that it's a shame that there aren't any grommets on this universal footprint, but at the same time.... it's universal. Not all of the two person MSR tents are the same dimensions. It took me some time to consider that as I was also frustrated that I couldn't get a footprint for my exact HH NX. Then, I ignored all of the negative reviews on here, And every other site! Think about this, using tyvek, or any durable waterproof material other than UL footprints, you'll have to be crafty, yeah? So why not get creative like the people who have thought outside of the box and saw a solution? A key ring, washer, grommets, etc. ""Problem"" solves! This of us who truly venture, will eventually end up doing repairs to our own gear, it's inevitable. I have re-taped, seam sealed, mesh screen patched, and re waterproofed my tent. So before the complaints slow you down from choosing this footprint, think about long term. The longevity of this and your tent. Think about 1-5 yrs from now when that ember lands on your rain fly, is it MSR's problem? Or can you fix it? Just tie a knot, and if you don't know any... ""don't know a knot, tie a lot"" or loop a small key ring in. I appreciate the few who went beyond to post images for everyone to see their solutions or ""mods"" Thank you!

Stake down your footprint first.Then assemble your pole. Attach your fly to the pole first then attach your tent and place your tent corners around your stakes adjust your lines. Know you can remove the tent and just have the fly with your footprint. This is good in bad weather when you need to remove the tent first to keep dry. This is for all Hubba NX 1, Hubba Hubba Nx 2 tents and so on.

Works perfectly with my Hubba Hubba NX 2, but only after I took another reviewers idea to add split rings to the four corners. I ended up using stainless steel 8mm lock washers from the local hardware store - perfect fit. Simply use two pairs of pliers to slightly open it up, thread it onto the footprint's grey tie down, then use the pliers to twist them back to flush. The other reviewer mentioned using split rings from the fishing store but didn't list the size.... The ones I had on hand were too big and too small.

I don't think this product deserves a 2-star rating. The fabric itself is tough, very high quality. And I don't think the attachment points are a big deal - there are many ways of working around that. And frankly when the tent is staked out over the top of it, who cares if it isn't attached - it's not going anywhere unless the tent blows away.
