Are you planning on going on a camping trip with your family in the near future? If you’re new to recreating for longer than a day outdoors, you may be wondering what you should bring. Here is a general outline that will easily suffice for the average camping trip, and will help you and your family have a positive experience while enjoying all the nature of the wilderness. With practice, these tips will become second nature to you in no time! Let’s go over, how to adventure!
Equipment
First and foremost is camp equipment. You want to bring the right gear to cover any problems you might face that come with being in a foreign environment. The most important camp equipment is cooking supplies, knives, fishing equipment, and water. Many people don’t think much about water, but there may be a shortage out there in the woods unless you are fond of gulping down fish waste and anything else that could be in those rivers, ponds, and lakes. Just be sure you have everything necessary to cook such as a pot, pan, knife, and fire starting tools. Keep your camp equipment ready for each new adventure by cleaning and maintaining it between uses.
Gear

Secondly, you will want to bring camp gear. Duh, right? It would seem pretty self-explanatory, but getting all of these supplies together can be overwhelming, making it easy to forget obvious items. Your gear consists of tents, bedrolls, and something to sit on, like a folding canvas chair. Make sure to bring plenty of bug spray and proper netting to keep out bugs like mosquitoes. Sleeping and comfort should be first on the gear checklist. Next comes crucial items of camp gear that most don’t immediately think of such as rope, tarps, proper footwear, and hats. Don’t forget your hat–a sunburned head can make life miserable! Pretty much all your necessary gear can be found at a local camp store, and you may even want to check online classifieds for used goods.
Travel
The final point on your checklist is camp travel. You will want to be able to move around comfortably to properly experience the great outdoors. Camp travel gear is mostly centered around good boots, a quality walking stick, and emergency equipment such as a radio, phone, or GPS device, and a first aid kit that can address a variety of issues, from rashes to broken bones. It is highly advisable to have some sort of communication, because it is never safe to be totally and completely cut off from civilization. A signal mirror is compact and can be carried in a pocket, and the same goes for an audible device like an emergency whistle.
So to summarize, remember to bring camp equipment like cooking supplies and fishing equipment, camp gear like tents and sleeping bags, and don’t forget about camp travel and your emergency equipment. Most of all, remember that camping can instill a great sense of connection with nature, so embrace the experience and have fun!
