Update

I bought this tent 6 years and many hundred days in the field ago... and it is still my go to tent. The elastic in the poles had to get replaced this year and I have had to "patch" one small pinhole in the side wall (looks like it was caused by an errant campfire ember. I say "patch" because it was so small i just used seam seal. I am 6' and 165lbs and I primarily use it with my wife (5'6" 120lbs) and it provides the perfect amount of space. We can fit boots/packs under the vestibules with enough space at the foot of the tent for some clothes storage without the tent getting crowded or messy. We run the tango duo slim bag with the exped synmat duo hl, which fits perfectly in the hornet. Its just like a big weatherproof bed in the backcountry. Also, with the tent and sleep system weighing in around 6lbs it is more than light enough to take in solo, which makes it ultra lush and palatial. This tent is phenomenal. Go buy one.

Weather proof!

I have used this tent with my husband on several backpacking trips but recently took it on a very stormy trip where it rained everyday. Our nemo kept us and all our gear dry even when water started pooling beneath us! It is a bit small for 2 adults but we sacrifice a little bit of space to keep the pack weight down. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my tent and plan to use it for years to come.

Not durable

I really wanted to love this tent. But on night one there were multiple tears in the noseum mesh (which was under the fly not even left out without a fly over it. One of the holes is by the pole attachment for front of tent and came in it, didn't notice until I was on the trail of course. The tent caves in and the fly with guyouts still drips into the tent with condensation since it won't stay away from the tent and I'm too afraid to put anymore tension on it since it rips with no tension. The tent itself does not come with enough stakes if you want to put the fly on it. Comes with 4 stakes total. I'm not sure if that was a design flaw or if I was just sent wrong number of stakes. Over all I like the size and weight. But I wouldn't reccomend it due to the durability of this tent. It rips with no wind and nothing near it, so wouldn't trust it in any sort of wind or storm.

Best ultralight tent.

Fast and easy setup. Excellent windproof and waterproof. Ultralight. Wide space for one (2p version But on my opinion, color (green) should be changed. In early spring (when trees without leafs) it's attract too many insects and they try to eat it. ))

Stands up against the elements

After much research I opted to get this tent. This week I backpacking the AT and stopped for the night at red barn. We knew rain was expected but we were than placed under a wind advisory. There was constant 30 mph winds with gust of 50 mph. This tent withstood the winds that battered it all night with zero damage as well as kept me dry and comfy with a constant rain from 9pm to 3am

Just the right size

This is my first 1P backpacking tent and my first Nemo. Practicing in a friend's backyard and watching a video about features, I was able to set it up in minutes solo. I'm 5'7'" about 145# and have plenty of room inside the tent, including a spot for my pack (as long as the food is stored elsewhere). The little toggles that expand the sides to widen when connected to the fly are great and do really help give a little extra elbow room. I can sit up, change clothes and still have room to move around a bit. Great ultralight double wall option. Very pleased and can't wait for all the adventures we will have together.

Roomy for a backpacking tent

I bought this tent a year ago and went backpacking with my daughter in Rocky Mountain National Park. This lightweight tent held two adults comfortably and withstood a mild summer rainstorm. We loved the extra room under the fly outside the tent and easily stored our backpacks and fishing gear. The shape of the tent goes from narrow(feet to wider (hips and head). Super comfy. The rainfly set-up was initially a tad confusing (connecting the tab to the tent) but we figured it out.

Not too big. Not too small. This is JUST RIGHT

I'm new to backpacking and have been throughly terrorized into being very worried about packing one extra extra ounce that doesn't need to be packed. I was also told "one person tents suck." But.. weight! I decided I was more afraid of extra weight than too little space. This tent is PERFECT. So perfect. I can fit me and my pack INSIDE this tent, I'm 5'7, 140 pounds, and I'm over 60. So not so flexible. The door opens up so I can slide in without struggling, the fly flap can be supported with a hiking pole for a nice little added space, and best of all, all my gear fits in the tent with me, no problem. I don't know why anyone who solo packs would carry a two person tent, this has plenty of room and packs up nice and small. It's even easy to put up, a very straightforward design even a neophyte can figure out. I love my little tent.

Best tent I've ever owned

I've put it to the test on the west coast of Vancouver Island and all over the wet coast. It's incredibly fast and easy to setup. I've never had it leak, even in 60kmph wind driving rain. Every first night in my 1 person Nemo tent is the best night ever! Great job Nemo!

This Tent Saved my Life

I bought this tent before what was supposed to be a 5 night sol trip in the Rockies last September. On day two, I was at 12, 500 feet on an exposed ridge when a freak snowstorm came in about 10 a.m. What was supposed to be a dusting with no accumulation turned into a solid 3 day blizzard. I was able to get back into the tree line before total white-out conditions and get my tent set up next to a giant downed tree that provided a partial wind block. I spent the next 3 days getting battered by constant snow and high wins. The tent (along with my REI 15 degree bag and my Thermorest pad and my darn tough socks kept me warm and dry, even after 2 1/2 foot drifts had built up around the tent. Not only did this thing save my life, but it was really comfortable and had plenty of room to store all my gear and keep it dry too. I can't recommend this thing enough.

Ultralight and easy to set up

I bought this tent about 2 yrs ago, have used it on multiple trips and never was disappointed. This is a compact ultralight 1 person tent with vestibule on the outside to keep your gear. It is very quick to set up and holds good in rain. Infact I have also used it in icy conditions although it?s a 3 season tent. Have not used it in snowfall yet. If you are looking for an ulttry1 person semi-freestanding tent then this is an excellent choice. If you are looking for put your gear inside the tent, 2p could be a better option.

Incredibly light

Super lightweight tent that could be assembled within minutes. Fits my sleeping pad and myself as advertised, just enough space to sit upright.

2P Hornet

I was very apprehensive due to all the reviews about water leakage. I bit the bullet, bought it and set it up in my yard the day before an all-day rain. I love the tent and kept going out to check things out because I was so worried about leaking. There were no leakages. First I did stake out the cutout at the head, as far as I could. Second, it was a steady all-day rain, but no downpours, and only very light wind. Held up perfectly under those conditions. Another thing I've seen mentioned in reviews that it was confusing to set up at first. Hmmm. I am no expert and it couldn't have been simpler. Easy, quick setup, super quick tear down. The only thing I didn't like was that the fly material was so thin it was clingy when wet, but then again, that was kind of good because there was no blow back. Also I've read about zippers snagging. No snagging if you pull them down properly away from the cover flap, and all zippers can be open and closed one handed. I'm really, really hoping this holds up for the long haul and in heavier rain because I couldn't be happier with this tent. P.S. I bought this to replace a trekking pole tent which is equally great, but not so easy to pitch just right. So far, I'm in love with the Nemo Hornet 2P.

Great but doesn't hold up to high winds.

I bought this tent 2 years ago and have been very happy with it. We did 4 days in Hells canyon last week and had a rain and wind event that broke one of the tent poles which then ripped the rain fly apex to bottom seam. The tent poles seemed very brittle and not strong enough. The fly not being rip stop wouldn't stop ripping. Shredded the fly with wind up to 40 or 50 mph. My partners Sierra design tent did fine.

Read this excellent Backpacking Tent

Tent was great rocks on the ground didn't affect the tent floor I was pleased about that, I will most likely use a footprint in the future, but the material held up perfectly. Winds were 40 mph and tent stood strong. Great product and quality thx again NEMO.

Quick, easy, and light

A good tent that has done me well infer many nights under the stars. It’s great to have a tent that can be set in in a fraction of the time of other tents. I’m 6’6” and had plenty of room in the cabin and any gear I wanted to keep covered. The only down fall I’ve had is some of the elastic with in the guides has dry rotted and did t pull them together to well. No that big of a deal but really sucked 3 days into a 10 day hunt.

Great tent, great company

As a ranger for a nonprofit that works with the Forest Service, I got this in 2018 for using on my 8 day hitches as well as my personal trips. I have loved this tent every step of the way. Through wind and rain, often on less than ideal ground, this tent kept myself and my gear dry and comfortable at a very reasonable weight considering the features of this tent. This past fall, after over 240 nights of utilizing this tent, a couple tears appeared in the body as a cord got caught while pulling the tent from its stuff sack. I sent the tent body to Nemo, explained what happened with painters tape around the trouble areas, and 8 weeks later (a long time, but covid19 and the holidays didn’t exactly make it a great time to return an item my tent arrives sewn back together with very clean stitching and in perfect working order. No hassle, no return shipping, didn’t even ask for money for the repairs. I hope I can get another 240 nights out of this tent, but I do know when the time comes to purchase a new one I will be looking at Nemo and their newest version of the Hornet. Extremely satisfied with how Nemo does business.

Read this...Dynamite Backpacking Tent!

First, unpacking, first love for the NEMO Hornet 2P. I've owned a ton of Tents over the years since the Scouting years, they just keep getting lighter, easier to set up, better materials, zippers that work, and weights that won't leave you huffing and puffing on the Trails. What NEMO has done with the Hornet 2P is nothing short of fantastic for hikers, backpackers everywhere. After my initial inspection of my tent from Bentgate Mountaineering today I found the tent to be perfect, stitching, seams, zippers, netting, poles stakes all 100% high quality...no fraying strings or any such thing, just perfect quality. I will give my Trails update soon with pictures...in the meantime thank you NEMO TEAM for your dedication and by the way I love the Green Golors! See you on the Trails... LeeAZ

Love it

The Hornet 1p packs small, its lightweight, easy and quick to set up, great size vestibule, and has PLENTY of room inside for me ( 5'10, 195 lbs, a large size NeoAir pad and all my gear. Kept me dry in the rain also, 2 hours steady down pour. I did not have any condensation issues either.

Excellent backpacking tent!

I bought this tent for my Nobo John Muir Trail thru hike. I was initially apprehensive about the durability of this tent, but over the course of 23 days in the High Sierras it proved to be up to the task! It kept me warm and dry during the few rain showers we had and held its ground on very windy nights at Guitar Lake and Mather Pass. I take good care of my equipment so I used a piece of Tyvec as a ground cover, which I highly recommend. Whether setting up on granite, dirt or pine straw covered ground the Hornet set up quickly and easily. After covering 270 miles over 23 days, my tent still looks and performs like new. I can say the same for my other Nemo products as well. It is the lightest duel wall tent that I know of and that light weight payed great dividends on the resupply days when our packs were heavy. I love this tent!

Great for bikepacking also in the rain

The most positive thing with the Hornet 2p is that it’s super roomy and super lightweight. It will definitely fit two adults inside. When hiking or bikepacking alone, there’s plenty of left space for the gear and other things. The vestibules on both sides of the tent help Hornet 2p to “extend” even larger. I don’t only mean that you have more space for your gear, but you can actually lean to the sidewalls while sleeping, without getting wet if it’s rainy outside. What comes to the lenght of the Hornet 2p it's quite short. I’m 187 cm tall and I fit inside well, but anybody taller than me can have a problem with the length, because the rainfly covers fully only the other end of the tent. There's only single layer sheltering you from the rain. Of course if you don't touch it with your sleeping bag, there isn't any problem. However the tent has kept dry after every single rainy night!

Awesome Tent!

I bought the 2p Hornet last year 2019 and have put over three months of actual use/sleeping in this tent (750 miles total-ish! I hiked the Colorado Trail with my dad and we shared this tent. It worked, but was indeed tight for two people he's 5' 7" I'm 5' 9" ideally its a 1.5 person tent. As far as holding up its done awesome. I've had one seam tear where the fly corner clip is sewn in, but its just the top layer. We probably were tightening it too much honestly. It does great in wind. My only dislike of the tent itself is the waterproofness of the head area. In sustained rainy conditions i.e. four days straight of rain all afternoon and all night the fly will wet out, but still keep the interior dry. However the head area where there is a cut out to save weight and increase ventilation is only a single wall and once it wets out it very slowly starts allowing water to seep into the inside (even in the sustained rainy weather it was only a very small amount, we never woke up wet or in puddles, just the head area was damp and the underside of our pillows/pads were wet). This only happened those few days where we couldn't dry out and it was sustained wet weather, but something to note. Overall very happy with the tent super lightweight, easy set-up and durable!

Great backpacking tent!

We've had the Hornet 2P for several years and used it many times backpacking on various trails. We do waterproof it each year with Nikwax or Scotch Guard and also treat the seams and it has never leaked on us. We have just enough room for two people and the vestibules are just large enough for our backpacks. Having doors and vestibules on both sides is really a nice bonus. We think this is a great tent.

Light but very crowded for one small woman!

I bought this tent because it was the top ultralight tent on every review site. Everyone loves it! But the design is flawed. The walls of the tent bow inward making it really claustrophobic. I hate touching the walls of a tent. I am only 5' 3" so I am not big. They have a kluge fix with hooks that lets you attach the walls of the tent to the inside of the rainfly. This works meh, not great. A tighter fit with the poles where the tent body doesn't bow inwards would be a better solution than the awkward little hooks. I can't imagine trying to put 2 people into this tent, even though this was the 2P model. I saw they redesigned the tent structure right after I bought this, so maybe that works better. I wish I'd realized before I bought it, so could have waited for the new design. Also this tent is quite fragile, you have to be super careful with zippers, fabric. I recently was in it when it was pouring rain for several hours. I stayed kind of dry, but the fact that the tent body is hooked to the rainfly was not optimal for keeping water out. It was damp insides. Also if you didn't touch the rainfly it seemed to repel water but once something touched it, the water soaked right through (like in the morning, getting out of the tent). It doesn't stand up to wind very well, it shakes and rattles. I don't think you would stay dry in a rainstorm with a lot of wind. You have to be careful of the orientation, you need the front of the tent facing away from the wind so rain doesn't blow up into the tent. That is not always easy to do. So overall the weight is a big plus but you don't want this to be your tent when its going to rain a lot (Cascades, Alaska, monsoon season in the Rockies). I might look for something else that is light but a bit more sturdy.

Tougher than it looks and feels

This is a great tent! It is easy to set up and is a good balance of light weight vs not breaking the bank. I recently set it up on a bed of granite pebbles without a ground cloth (long story and without staking the corners (because I was on a giant rock; I did use 2 big rocks for the foot corners, but they did not keep the bottom as taut as stakes would have). I used a makeshift pad under the tent by completely opening a folding camp chair (another great product available at REI - the flash trail seat) but it only provided maybe 40% cover under my body. I have a backpacking air mattress which also contributed to protecting the bottom fabric of the tent from too much pressure in one area, but long story short, the tent fabric did not rip. There are a few small abrasions visible on the fabric, but it held (see photos). Even though this tent feels fragile, I was impressed with the way it held up under less than ideal conditions and set up location/terrain. It is the perfect amount of space for one person, but would be cozy for two, so you'd probably want to be real comfortable with your tent-mate. It's not totally free-standing but with some rocks, sticks and ingenuity it can be pitched almost anywhere. It's quick and easy to set up and take down. I'm definitely happy with this purchase. Additional photo of the tent on normal ground with the rain fly held open; this allowed for great views of the night sky through the mesh and good airflow on a relatively warm night in the Sierras.

Made the journey and weathered the storm!

I've had many chances to put this tent to the test - both in the backcountry and in the back of my truck. Most recently, I found myself in a heavy midwest thunderstorm. The water began pooling on the ground, and quickly my tent was submerged in several inches of standing water. I let the storm pass before inspecting my bedding and clothing that remained inside the tent. To my surprise, everything was bone dry on the inside. I instantly told my camping group that I was going to go home and write a review. Nemo makes some awesome gear. I use the 2-person model for myself, providing a little extra space without adding too much weight.

Good intention, poor execution.

Lightweight and quiet zippers are the two best qualities of this tent. I hope to provide clear and constructive criticism in order that this tent can “provide a better adventure experience”. For comparison, I will mention the MSR Hubba where applicable. Make no doubt that this is not a freestanding tent, nor is it advertised as such. Tent livability depends on the fly being in place, otherwise the walls sag inward without use of the ‘volumizing clips that connect to the fly’. Although the black mesh on top of the tent may be “good for stargazing”, I would not want to be in the tent with saggy sidewalls from the fly not being in place. While the Jake’s feet may be an innovative method to secure the tent poles to the tent, they reduce usability of the fly and the footprint. The fly has a clip to attach it to the Jake’s feet. The clip was fairly easy to apply and remove. The footprint has a C-clip that must be attached to the webbing of the Jake’s feet. Applying the C-Clip is not easy and requires twisting and turning to get the webbing fully inside the clip. Compared to other single person tents that use grommets on all pieces, applying the tent, fly and footprint requires 3 separate movements, compared to one when all 3 use a grommet. Take down of fly, tent, and footprint is equally inefficient and laborious compared to the Hubba. Incorporation of 3 velcro tabs on the inside of the fly to secure the fly to the tent poles is another good idea poorly executed. Applying the tabs took time and coordinated fine motor movement (which one may or may not have after a long day on the trail). Often in the morning, I found these tabs did not stick. There’s gotta be an easier, more usable solution. Attaching the volumizing clips to the ¼’ wide webbing loop on the inside of the fly is another pain point. I had to lay on my back a couple times to get the clip attached to the loop. A larger loop with thinner webbing/cord would be just as effective, light, and likely more usable. The volumizing clip reduces the vestibule area by essentially “roping off” an area. One cannot simple toss their pack under the vestibule because the clip attachment gets in the way. Finally, I find it ironic that this tent is advertised as ultralight, but includes tent stakes that weigh 16 gm ea (vs 8 gm titanium stakes) and a footprint pouch that weighs 17 gm (compared to the 10gm pouch for the Hubba footprint). So, when I’m concerned about weight (longer trips), I’ll continue to give the Nemo a try; but for shorter trips, the heavier but easier to use Hubba will be my choice.

Lightweight but didn't do well in rain

This tent is lightweight and easy to install but....the rain fly does not cover the full tent, leaving out a semicircle above your head. It is a questionable design, the rain falls onto the area above your head and anything that touches it gets wet, and the water rolls down it into the space between your groundcloth and the tent, resulting in water seeping through the floor. With that being said, I really wanted to give a 5 to this tent but I can only rate it 3 because it is only reliable in dry condition.

Tent for Pacific Crest Trail Thru Hike

By Kern D.

I was pretty nervous about this tent going into my trip. I am a pretty avid hammock user and wasn't excited to be back on the ground. I was surprised to find out how many occasions on this hike I was glad I had this tent instead of the hammock. The space this tent offers is ideal for one person. Trying to stretch it to two people would never work. I could sit up in the middle without rubbing my head against the bug net. The light pocket at the crown of the bug net was perfectly located and wa...

Surprisingly lightweight and comfortable

By NedZissou

I was intrigued by the one pole construction and decided to give this tent a go. I can safely say that this is the best backpacking tent I’ve ever camped in. It is very, very lightweight and easy to put together. Even with just one pole, the tent is surprisingly stable. I’m a huge fan of the ‘moonroof’ mesh at the top of the tent, as well - had some great stargazing from the comfort of my sleeping bag :

The Ultimate in Lightweight Livability
