Kelty Gunnison 3 Tent with Footprint

I bought the Gunnison 3 for truck camp hunting for my wife and I. First impression was that it was very well made, and it’s compact and won’t take up a ton of room in the truck. It goes up and comes down quickly and easily, feels sturdy once assembled, and has plenty of room for a full size air mattress for 2 people and some gear. The fact that it comes with a footprint is a huge plus also. Every tent should come with a footprint IMO. Overall, I think it’s going to be a great tent that will last us for quite a while.

I used this tent from the hills surrounding Sequoia National forest, the areas outside of Montery and the warmer portions of Mnt. Shasta. This tent performed flawlessly in every location. The tent very comfortably fit two adults and two dogs, with a set up taking less than 3 minutes everytime and could be done headache free in the dark. The rain cover has sturdy spacers that effectively ventilate your tent; rain or shine. I'm actually excited to be able to use this tent on future trips.

Like the tent, however, was somewhat difficult trying to figure out how to get the awning to stay up with our hiking poles.

I purchased this tent to take on a fishing trip in Quetico Provincial Park. The second day we were there we got 5 inches of rain. Not a single drop in my tent. To say I was pleased would be an understatement. Great tent. Looking forward to many more camping trips with this tent. Hopefully without the rain.

Broke the sweet new tent out a few days ago, practiced the easy set-up & already impressed with the quality and features. Can't wait to break it in during a camping trip in the desert this week.

I love the fact that is comes with a ground tarp. Simple and easy to put up and very well made. This is a great compact package when packed. Well done!! Both my Grandson and I slept in our Kelty sleeping bags as well. So comfortable.

Me and my wife had hard time to decide what to buy. After comparing all specs, Gunnison 3 seemed the best option for us. After a 4-day long bike camping adventure, I can say we made the right choice! Pros: Set up is easy, we tried it at home before going for camp and did not even look for instructions. Footprint is a big plus. Height of the tent is good and the design makes wider dome (rectangular shape) so you have more space at the top. Stakes are very durable and light. Bright orange colour makes neighbouring campers jealous so keep a good eye on them :) When it is packed, it becomes a rectangular box like package instead forming thin long package. This was a big plus for carrying it by bike. Poles become really short so you don't have spear-like extension at the back of your bike. Ventilation was also good (even when we forgot to open outer window 2 nights). Cons : When compared to similar tents, there are indeed lighter tents around and normally you want to carry less in your bike. However, when all specs taken together, it is a trade we decided to make. It may not be suitable for bike-packers who don't use port-baggage.
