Dakine Heli 12L Backpack Brown Rice

I was looking for an inexpensive option to carry my skis and and few other items on a recent ski trip to Japan to do a bit of backcountry skiing. The Heli Pack 12L Backpack fit the bill to a tee! Got it on sale and it was the perfect pack to take. Though I didn't need to carry any avalanche gear, it would be able to fit a shovel and probe no probs, along with a few extra items, like an extra pair of gloves, baselayer, snacks...and I loved the goggle pouch to stash an extra set of lenses for the changing weather. Truly the perfect compact pack!

This is a great pack for riding lifts at the resort. It's very low profile, so when you lean back in the chair you don't feel like you're getting pushed off. And all of the excess, or unused straps, can be nicely stashed so they're not dangling loose threatening to get caught on the lift. The construction is sturdy and should stand up to years of use. My only complaint is that there could be more internal pockets for things like lip balm, snacks, a neck gaiter, etc. There is one top pocket, ideal for a spare of goggle lens, trail map, etc; but that's it, everything else has to go in the main pocket, just kind of stuffed in there.

While I've only been able to use the backpack on a few hikes and bike rides, I can already say I love it! Tough, sturdy, and sleek. Already looking forward to next ski season.

Well, I ordered the heli pro 12 L, but in spite of the label on the bag and tag attached to the bag, it was the heli 20 L! Oops! Not sure where QC was on that one, but I am very happy with the 20 L bag. I was trying to decide which one would be better for lift assist all day charging, and the 20 L will be perfect, though i did like the external shovel blade puch on the 12L version. The 20 L bag is a little tight to get my avy gear in the dedicated pocket, but it does fit. The goggle pocket barely fits goggles, and not sure if I would have them in there with the avy gear since the probe and shovel handle would be right behind the pocket and potentially cause damage to goggles. There is enough room for an extra layer, some water, pops and snacks and tools. I expect I will get a lot of use out of this bag, on and off the slopes. Sweet bag Dakine! Build quality seems really good and I like the bright interior colour of my bag for seeing what is in there.

I purchased this pack for the Bridger side country. Small enough profile for chairlift laps and handy to carry the board on the ridge hikes. The pack is 18L so not a whole lot of room but perfect for those shorter days hitting the side country. Comfortable carrying a board on the back, and easy fit for riding down. Highly recommend. I am 5'10" and carry a 160 size snowboard.

Fits comfortably behind my back on the lift, and it's small enough that I can only carry my water and gloves etc. without having room to carry extra stuff for my friends. I also double it as my go-to carry on backpack on airline flights because of its convenient size.

Owned one for 7 years now, its the goto bag for me a boarder, it can carry my board so I can help the kids with their gear. Hard wearing and low profile making it good on the lifts.

Love this bag and it's durability. I've been able to A-frame my skis using the external straps which had been a huge bonus. Fits everything for touring and it's super low-profile.

I tried a few cheaper options off of Amazon, and they never really fit well or had the capacity I was looking for. Luckily, on a ski trip with some friends, one of my buddies had this backpack and I was able to try it out on the mountain. It fits awesome, even for bigger guys (225 Lbs.), and has all the storage/organization I was looking for. Additionally, well built pack, and super slim even when loaded up so not a burden on the lift. Highly recommended.

Got this pack for Colorado trip this past week. Worked very wel, l carried my extra gear (gloves, hat) as well as lunch and bladder. Comfortable to wear even with semi rigid back. Hard to take off on ski lifts with mittens on but easy to put on when you reach the top. Contoured rigid pack straps fit well and feel good. Ski carry is easy to use and make short work for lugging skis across long parking lots. Best part is big enough to carry minimal extra gear but not big enough to carry too much or ski partners stuff.

We haven't done backcountry skiing or snowboarding but this bag was pretty awesome to hold my board while we walked around town and as we traveled around hopping from lodge to lodge. I probably could've gone a little larger for gear capacity but it worked out just fine!

Purchased this pack a few weeks ago. Arrived much sooner than expected so I was able to take it skiing the past two weeks. I like how slim it is, while still being able to hold a good amount of stuff. My favorite feature is the diagonal ski carry. This makes it so much easier to bring my skis from the car to the slopes. Definitely would recommend.

Use this while skiing, and it's perfect for carrying some extra layers (socks, gloves, balaclavas), protein bars, extra GoPro batteries & water bottles. Stays low profile, doesn't get bulky, and is comfortable while wearing on the lift.

Super similar to my Heli 20, but just a bit smaller for those days you don't need as much. Super skinny, and long, makes it awesome for slack country around the resort - awesome on chair lifts.

Good quality what you expect from a Dakine bag. I am a short guy (5'4) and it does feel longer than other bags feel. It doesn't bother me but it might be important to others.
