I love these hiking poles! SO light and easy to take backpacking. My only complaint is the snow baskets. You have to purchase the snow baskets separately and they?re very small for a snow basket. They don?t work very well in deep powder.

These are by far my favorite poles. I had an earlier version and broke once. These are even better. The release is much easier to use to collapse the poles done. Love them.

Tested these out on a 6 mile hike. Each pole must have separated at the joints at least 10 times. Unbelievably frustrating

Light and easy to use. We were in Italy and they really came in handy. Folded when needed for easy carrying. What more can I say!?

My last set of these were busted beyond repair after I fell down a cliff. Had to get a new set, and they feel even better than before.

We really like these poles. We actually had to send some back to another online distributor because they were too tall for my wife but going down 5 cm was perfect for her. We both love that they fit inside of our day packs which is really convenient.

Very light weight poles. They are strong and look good. I like the wrist straps.

Bought these right before a Yosemite trip so I would have them ?just in case? on the uphill trek that is Vernal/Nevada Falls. I?m 27, moderately active, and 3 months out from low back surgery following a disc herniation at the end of ski season. I used the poles uphill and downhill in Yosemite, having the extra stability and support to stay upright likely saved my core. A week later I used them on the uphill portion of a trail race (2k vert over 3 miles) and again they were wildly helpful in maintaining an upright posture and a strong core. Folded them down for the downhill run and they were light to carry. If you are on the fence, get them!

Tried them for the first time on an 8 mile hike on sandy trail. The poles worked perfect once I figured out how to lock them. (Reading directions was great help) lol. Will be using them on the Rim to Rim of the canyon. I will update my review after that.

I bought these to replace a broken one that was an older model of this same pole. These are a great upgrade from the old ones. So light, yet strong and easy to unfold or fold back up. I especially like the tiny Velcro straps that hold them together. The old ones were way too strong and hard to get apart.

The Z design allows these poles to be super solid when ascending and descending trails, but still collapse compactly enough. Honestly, how much did you fiddle with adjustable poles? Get the right length and go hike!

Black Diamond replaced a set of poles where one of the poles snapped on me. The process was very smooth and I really appreciate their quick response. Well done.

BD knows what works. Classic lightweight aluminum. No need for adjustability for hiking just grab lower to go steeper. Collapse for ease of travel, carrying. Love these poles. Perfect for the job

The assembly instructions were a little hard to follow. The words weren't connected to the pictures and the pictures represented different poles. Once put together, they were just like my mountain climbing friend's poles. Off climbing together.

Sized exactly correctly. Will make travel so much easier. I have muscular dystrophy and need good trekkers to navigate airports when there is no assistance. Martin

Bought these for trail running and wanted something I could stow easily if I didn't want or need to use them for a stretch. They're very light and surprisingly compact when folded. They're sturdy but may have more bend/give than a solid pole, but are a lot more convenient. The folding/unfolding system works well. One a three-mile test hike I did get a little rubbing from the wrist strap on my thumbs. Overall a great value and I think they'll do exactly what I bought them for.

So glad I purchased these before trekking up Mount LeConte, TN!! While the 120’s were a bit short for me and the 130’s a bit too long for ascents, I was happy to find the 125’s available on the Black Diamond website! (For reference, I’m 5’10”

I'm recently on my second pair of Distance Z Poles, having carried my first pair for several mountain ultramarathons and hiking trips. I broke one of that first pair clean in two when I stumbled and jammed it down in a crevice to brake my fall while descending a boulder field on Mt. Antero in August. A few weeks later I took my one remaining pole on the Four Pass Loop in Colorado's Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness and slid on some loose dirt on a steep stretch of trail and landed on the pole, bending but not breaking it. Point being, these poles are great under the normal up-and-down stresses of hiking and trail running, but they are aluminum and will bend or break if you apply 190 pounds of sideways force. They also to my knowledge don't have option to add baskets for use in deep snow, though they do come with interchangeable metal and rubber/plastic tips, the metal ones being good for icy winter paths. I took them on a snowshoe daytrip in 3-4 foot deep snow last winter and they poke straight through, so you want a different pole for that kind of adventure.

Purchased a pair of Distance Z poles in August 2017 and was happy with them, but they broke around the three-year mark. They broke at one of the connections, the coupling thing pulled out to expose a slack cord. I'd chalk it up to a fluke, but I've had two other BD poles (a different model break the exact same way. The construction is just not adequate, especially considering the poles weren't used that much.

In the past, I rarely used hiking poles, but recently have been trying more difficult hikes over loose and steep terrain, so I began using borrowed poles and found I liked the support they gave me. I did a bit of research and found people liked these, so I gave them a try. Right away they felt lighter and more nimble than the pair I had borrowed. In use, I found that since they were lighter than the poles I had borrowed, they felt easier to swing and pinpoint exactly where I wanted to plant them. I also felt less vibration in these poles than the borrowed pair and I haven't felt any flex in them in the 3 day hikes and 1 overnight trip I've taken them on. I think they're a solid pair of poles and since they pack up so quick and small, I'll take them a long more often than not. Good buy.

Great service

Bought a set of these poles a couple of years ago and used them extensively. Unfortunately the cord holding them together snapped - due to the way I had been using them - BD sent a voucher to offset the costs of purchasing another set. Great, trouble free service.
Great Poles
By Taylor
I bought these poles for some of my mountain runs. They deploy and fold up very fast and fit perfectly into my Raidlight hydration pack. I did purchase the optional carbide tips and would highly recommend them to anyone purchasing these poles. I am not quite to the pro level of mountain racing, so I bought the aluminum instead of carbon fiber because I don't really care about a few extra ounces.

Non-scarring rubber Tech Tips and a lightweight, EVA foam grip lend the Distance Z comfort and practicality.
Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System
Concealed inner cord
Single push-button release to collapse the pole
One-pull, Speed Cone deployment
Speed Cone technology comes from Black Diamond's expertise in avalanche probe design - a key component of Z-Poles' stiffness and fast deployment. Simply grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them away from each other. The pole will snap into place and lock. Each Speed Cone guides a shaft section into place, and stiffens the joint when the pole is locked. Protective, flexible tube ends cover the pole's Kevlar center cord when folded.
