Here at SunnyScope, it’s our goal to bring you helpful information that will serve you well in a variety of outdoor situations, whether it be for recreation or survival. Being prepared is one of the most simple ways that you can help yourself in either of these circumstances, and the right tools are a quintessential part of preparedness. But because being prepared means different things to different people, it’s virtually impossible to create a template for how you should prepare for your outdoor adventures, so instead, we’ll show you some of our favorite tools to have on hand when we go into nature.

Light My Fire Swedish Fire Knife – $27.95

We can’t stress enough how important it is to always carry a knife on your outings into nature, simply because it is one of the most versatile tools you can have. Kick its usefulness up a notch by getting the Swedish Fire Knife from Light My Fire. Constructed in Mora, Sweden, the center of knife making for centuries, the blade is flexible but sturdy, and renown for its superior, long-lasting edge and easy sharpening. A flint nestled into the knife’s handle is easily removed and stored with a twist-lock mechanism, and will perform at any altitude, even in wet conditions. A polypropelene sheath with a belt clip keeps the blade safely tucked away and accessible when you need it. This is a great tool to keep on your person for any outdoor adventure. Available in several colors.

Ultimate Survival U-Dig-It Shovel with Nylon Pouch – $19.95

Probably one of the most necessary, but least remembered outdoor tool is a shovel. While it is most definitely not convenient to lug around a full-size shovel, a compact one like the U-Dig-It from Ultimate Survival will be hardly noticeable amongst your other gear. Made of rust-proof stainless steel, this spade is hinged at the handle to compress down to half its size, and is housed in a sturdy nylon pouch. A belt loop on the back makes it easy to attach this to any pair of pants or shorts, and a tough Velcro closure ensures it won’t slip out unnoticed. You’ll be surprised how often a shovel like this comes in handy!

Ultimate Survival Saber Cut Saw – $29.95

Most outdoor adventures won’t necessitate a chainsaw, but in a survival situation, it may be the most important tool you have. Since you’re obviously not going to strap a chainsaw on your back to go on a day hike, take the Saber Cut Saw from Ultimate Survival instead. This hand-held chainsaw features bi-directional self-cleaning teeth that can saw through even the hardest of wood with just a little elbow grease and determination. The handles are designed to allow you to saw vertically or horizontally, and the blades are treated to stay free from rust. The nylon housing slides onto any belt with the attached belt loop, and a quick-release buckle keeps this valuable tool right where it belongs. An emergency situation would be vastly improved by this handy tool.
