Previously we showed you the proper way to tie both your hiking boots and a bowline. Today let’s go over how to tie a sheet bend knot!
A “bend” is a knot that joins two ropes together, so this is excellent for those times you need to string up a tarp or create a shelter but the ropes you have just won’t reach. By the end of this article, you’ll know how to join two or more pieces of line together to create a longer section. It is incredibly fast to tie and more secure than a square knot and is considered an essential knot like the bowline.
To give you an idea before we go into the directions, this is what your finished product will look like:
Here are the steps:
- Start with your two sections of rope running parallel.
- Make a simple bend in one of the ropes.
- Pull the other rope through the bottom of the bend you made in the first rope.
- Loop the un-bent rope behind the bent rope.
- Pull the end of the un-bent rope under itself across the bend.
