It’s happened to even the best-planned of campers: forgetting that one item that can make or break your trip. In this instance, we’re talking about a can opener. Canned food is a popular choice for campers and adventurers due to the food being generally well-preserved. Canned food is great because it doesn’t need any specific kind of storage to keep from spoiling. Another advantage is the animal-proofing provided by the metal containers. It not only masks the smell of food, but makes it challenging for an animal to get into, increasing the likelihood they’ll give up and wander off. If you’ve forgotten your can opener, don’t worry, it happens to everyone. Here are a few alternate methods to open a can using a knife, concrete, or even a spoon! As long as you have at least one of these items handy, you should be able to enjoy all that canned goodness without a can opener.
