In 2012, a Santa Barbara bird watcher happened upon an unusual visitor in Southern California. He identified his new friend as a Grey Hawk, a bird that is rarely seen in the US outside of Arizona or Texas. The bird spent the winter in California and then departed for parts unknown. The question was, would he return? Watch the video to find out.

This tropical species of raptor is found mainly in the coastal areas of Mexico and throughout South America. Their preferred food is lizards or other small reptiles. Their population has been increasing as of late, which is believed to be due to land recovery programs and a decline in deforestation.
