I think that, if you know how to use a map, and you know which side of the needle points toward the northern/southern magnetic poles, then you should be able to use any compass in the southern hemisphere.FAN Y : Yes

Good baseplate compass

A good baseplate compass but I am not sure if it will really last because the component is plastic. Looks to fragile. Hope it lasts.

Not Bad...but not great

At this price, I expected better of the MC-2. The one I received has quite a bit of movement between the capsule and the base plate. In my 42 years of hiking/camping/teaching, I have never seen this happen on any compass...much less a Suunto, Their quality of manufacture seem to suffering.

MC-2 D/L/IN/NH

I just unboxed my my compass, and was quite pleased with it's options, however I discovered that there is 2-4 deg lateral movement between the capsule and the base plate. not sure if this is normal but I will be contacting customer service regarding this issue.

Absolute must for the serious navigator!

It has the most useful components necessary to teach land navigation especially with the luminious bezel/dual sighting positions. You can use it with a single hand while in motion. I like it and consider it close to perfection.
