Get Lost—Temporarily

Arrived just a few days after ordering. Finds north better than I do. Looking forward to getting into the woods in the spring. Mine did not have the small, brass screwdriver to calibrate declension (from my new compass vocab). Instead there is a metal tab on the lanyard which is harder to lose just in case I get so lost that north moves.

Just What I Wanted

This is the perfect compass for easy carry. I wanted a compass that I could shove in a pocket but still had the functions I wanted. The MB-6 is compact, protected in it's "matchbox case", and it has a sight mirror. If I'm working a lot with maps I still prefer my Silva Ranger. The clear base and large sight mirror are great but it's bulky. With the Suunto MB-6 I just pull it out of my pocket and use it. One note the magnetic needle in the Global MB-6 does not float parallel to the body of the compass. At first I thought this was a defect but this is normal. The needle's bearing is made to allow the needle to react to the differing magnetic environments around the Earth. So even thought the needle is tilted it is still accurate. So far it's been great. I've even given one to a friend that is an avid ATV rider. His has a military background but told me that this has become his favorite compass to carry for all the reasons above.

Fantastic compass & best price

IMO this is the best hiking/backpacking compass available and Sunny Sports had the best price around. I always carry a compass as a backup to my phone/GPS. This Suunto works globally, rather than just northern hemisphere. The matchbox style & lanyard are the most accurate/intuitive to sight. It also includes an inclinometer for measuring slope (not a common feature in compasses).
