If you're in the market for a simple, functional, best bang for your buck, and just a good looking goggle, the Squad XL is one of the best. These goggles were one of the most comfortable straight out of the box. Love the style, performance is incredible. Low-light lens seems to scratch easily.
I get a lot of compliments on the look and style of these goggles. The field of vision is amazing, I can look all around without noticing the frame. Swapping out lenses is relatively easy. One reason I hesitated purchasing was another reviewer mentioned their lens scratching easily. Unfortunately, I found that to be the case for my low-light lens. In 1965 Dr. Smith built the world's first thermal sealed goggles so he could get outdoors and have a blast on days everyone else had to stay inside. 50 years later and Smith Optics purpose hasn't changed. The weather and light are always changing, and the Smith Squad goggles set you up for a crystal-clear view through it all. Their semi-rimless design and oversize cylindrical lens yield a wide field of view backed up by sharp optics and Smith Optics best anti-fog tech. ChromaPop lens options heighten contrast and natural color so every wind lip and terrain feature come through loud and clear. ChromaPop technology filters specific light wavelengths to amplify detail and give you greater definition, color, and clarity for longer days on the hill.
Vision:
Cylindrical Carbonic-x lens for clarity, impact resistance and improved airflow. Fog-X anti-fog inner lens for fog-free performance. The cylindrical lenses are built on a base curve around the Y (vertical) axis. Smith's cylindrical lenses are offered with TLT (tapered lens technology) and is a base 5 curve.
Fit/Integration:
Medium to large fit (model dependent), and available in Low Bridge Fit. Dual-slide strap for easy size adjustment. Responsive Fit frame adjusts to your face for a precise, comfortable fit. Responsive Fit design allows the frame to adapt and follow the contours of your face, fitting perfectly on any face. Using only the strictly necessary material and creating a flexible reticular architecture, Smith goggle frames behave like a suspension system which precisely adapts to the unique shape of your face, ensuring an accurate and comfortable fit.
Designed for ultimate integration with Smith helmets for maximum comfort, venting and fog-free performance. The ultimate integration is evident in the precise coordination of goggles and helmets from Smith. Their helmets are designed in such a way that they correspond to the curve of the frame of the protective goggles, which avoids the so-called "gaper gap", a gap between protective goggles and helmet, and enables precise alignment of the AirEvac system of the helmet and the ventilation system of the protective goggles. Two-layer DriWix face foam wicks moisture for a fog-free fit. Ultra-wide, silicone-backed strap stays put.
The Smith Optics Squad Snow Goggles are available with multiple lens colors to provide maximum vision in varying light conditions. Blackout/ChromaPop Sun Black Lens (installed) are a medium fit, and come with bonus clear lens for low light conditions. Blackout/ChromaPop Sun Black Lens has a visual light transmission (VLT) 12% designed for use in bright sunshine conditions. The included clear lens has a visual light transmission (VLT) 89%. Carnelian/Everyday Red Mirror Lens are a medium/large fit, has a visual light transmission (VLT) 25% designed for use in moderate sunshine conditions. The included ChromaPop Storm Yellow Flash lens has a visual light transmission (VLT) 69% and are great for low light conditions. High Fives/Sun Black Gold Mirror Lens (installed), are a medium/large fit, has a visual light transmission (VLT) 13% designed for use in bright sunshine conditions. The included ChromaPop Storm Blue Sensor Mirror lens has a visual light transmission (VLT) 55% and are great for low light conditions. Black/ChromaPop Everyday Red Mirror Lens (installed) are a medium fit, has a visual light transmission (VLT) 12% and come with bonus standard Yellow lens for low light conditions. Colorblock/Everyday Red Mirror Lens (installed) are a responsive fit, has a visual light transmission (VLT) 25% and come with bonus Clear lens for low light conditions. All models provide 100% UV/UVB protection, come with a microfiber goggle bag and a replacement lens sleeve.
