Paired with an under quilt, basic base layer clothing, and down socks, this was very comfortable at 25 degrees in a hammock.

So I needed to test this out, so I got my brand new Klymit sleeping pad and my Santa delivered Nitro 20 and slept in the garage on the cement floor. I am a side sleeper and a flopper so I wanted to see if this quilt would keep me warm. It was 32 degrees throughout the night. I had on some cotton sweat pants, a cotton t-shirt and a fleece jacket on. This is how I would sleep if I were in the backcountry. I am 5 foot 11 inches and 230 lbs. I notice that I can see light when I hold up the quilt over my head. This concerned me as i wondered if it would keep me warm given the distribution of the down in the baffles. I can solve the problem by shaking the quilt a bit. I was warm, surprisingly warm. 32 degrees is the comfort rating of the Nitro 20, with 20 degrees being the survivable end. At about 4 AM, I decided to take the fleece off to see if just the t-shirt would be enough, and it was! I slept a few hours more and did not feel cold. I wore a pair of cotton socks. I can report that the footboy kept my feet warm all night. In my last below-freezing high in the Uinta mountains of Utah at 9500 feet, my feet were cold for a few hours (my feet are always cold when I climb into a sleeping bag), but the Nitro did not disappoint my toes. My biggest concern is the sides of the quilt would lift when I rolled over. I do not want to have to tuck the sides in every time I roll, but that is what I had to do all night. I used the handholds in the top corners of the quilt and when I slept on my stomach, the allowed me to wrap the quilt around me and it kept me warm. But I am not a stomach sleeper, and in 8 hours I did not learn how to the use them sleeping on my side. I spent most of the night dreaming of how to eliminate the drafts on the my back as the Nitro Quilt does not clip to the pad. Maybe I just need some more experience. If I was a person who slept on their back, it would be perfect, and the head-hole is very cool in this use-case. Report Card ONE night at 32 degrees: Weight: A Pack Size: A Value: A Warmth: A, when wrapped. C when rotating Footbox: A Quilt Functionality: C, but this is the quilt concept, not Sierra manufacturing. So?I think I will keep it and try it in the backcountry as soon as possible to see if I can learn how to do this. The weight and size make it worth the try.

Just use this for the first time, and it was super warm! Granted it wasn?t very cold outside, but I?m excited to use it during the winter!

I have now used this for about 8 nights in a hammock in weather ranging from 33 and wet to 72 and dry. I am shocked at how well this quilt is made and how warm I stayed. It never got soggy in the damp. I love the head and face cover. I was skeptical of this when I ordered it. This is one of my favorite features. I am impressed with the weight to warmth and quality.

I've wanted to try a quilt for years but was reluctant as most are. Now I'll never go back. I'm a side sleeper that rolls during the night, so mummy bags were always restrictive, and I would end up with the bag upside down by morning. Not so with the quilt. It's the ultimate in freedom of movement, yet still provides the same warmth as a bag. I can't say enough good about it. If you're hesitating, don't. Just buy it. You won't regret it!

I have used this quilt happily in dry and wet conditions down to it's low temp rating. love the hand pockets and face portal for hunkering down when it's on the colder side. I'm a 5'5" adult and it feels plenty big, my partner and I have shared this with enough comfort to sleep down to 50f. with shared footbox. Bag can be compressed into a smaller stuff sack than provided for extra space savings and is incredibly light for backpacking.

The Nitro is the perfect transition into the world of quilts. I'm a pretty petite person (I'm 5'4'', 120lbs) and I like that it's a little oversized and feels like a luxurious down throw. I toss and turn a bit and generally sleep on my stomach - so size and shape is perfect for me. It is also super packable and has an impressive warmth to weight ratio. I've used this quilt on several multi-day trips now all over the country. and I find that I can sleep comfortably down to right around freezing. I've never had issues with drafts or cold spots when using with an insulated pad, and can use it through late spring here on the East Coast if I just kick a leg out. For me, this quilt has been a super versatile piece and a great value (I bought it during the holiday sale). And sticking your head through the hole is not only functional, but a great party trick at camp!

I love both the 35 and 20 degree Nitro Quilts! A 0 or 10 degree would be awesome!!!

If you?re like me and move around a lot while trying to snooze in the backcountry, mummy bags are the pits. This quilt offers a way out of the tangled mess of most mobility-impeding mummies. I only wish it was available with a zero degree f rating. Super light, super comfy, part bag, part cozy blanket, the Nitro Quilt provides the best of all factors to backpacking sleeping options. Sealing the deal is its integrated hood and footbox, interior hand/arm pockets, as well as PFC-Free DriDown insulation that absolutely keeps you dry when water seeps in the tent or bivy. And if the quilt does get a little wet, it dries fast! It doesn't have a pad attachment system but that that's less of an issue than you might imagine. If freedom to move is at the top of your hierarchy of needs, an attached pad is another impediment. I have tried other brands' quilts but this one is hard to match with it's well-thought out design and top-notch fabric and fill. As I said, I only wish it was available with a lower comfort rating for women. Some people can tolerate 27 degrees well but I am not one of them. I'd rather be a little warm and have an option to open up the quilt a bit than rolling myself into a tighter burrito. When the zero comes available, I am buying.

Just received my new quilt. Incredibly lightweight, and the material is actually nice feeling(almost soft), seems warm enough though haven't tried it camping yet.

Had been using a Sierra Designs backcountry bed for the past 4-5 seasons and loved it, but wanted to have just a little more freedom to flip around from side to stomach during the night, so I decided to give this a shot. Plus I now have a small dog as backpacking companion and she didn't really like to sleep between my legs in the the tight part of the backcountry bed at night while I tossed and turned. I have now used the Quilt twice in pretty cold weather and loved it. It took a couple hours to get used to it and to figure out how to best sleep in it, but once I did - no problems at all, and a great nights sleep. Plus the pup slept peacefully at my side under the open quilt.

Used the quilt while camping in the UP. It gave great flexible and comfort for the different nightly temperatures we experienced. Temps, were from the 40s to the 50s. Never got to hot or to cold!

I just used this quilt on a 3 week backpacking trip. I was pretty cold on it when the temperature got into the upper 20's. I never figured out how to eliminate drafts when shifting around in the quilt. Maybe I am not a quilt guy. I really like how light weight it is and the ability to put the quilt over my head. I used that feature almost every night

A great experience with my first quilt. Recently completed an 11 nite trip into the Wind River range. The quilt was adequate for most nights sleeping in boxers. 3 nights required wearing long johns and a fleece quarter zip. Never got cold. The quilt is very large and allows full coverage. It is especially good for those that turn a lot while sleeping. I have had two shoulder surgeries in the last 3 years and need to constantly rotate sides. A quilt is far better than a sleeping bag for this. This quilt saved me 3/4 lb from my old sleeping bag. For those looking to shave some weight without sacrificing comfort, a quilt is the way to go. I don't see a quilt as being completely effective in sub freezing temps as a mummy bag but for 35F+, it is a winner.

I purchased the Nitro Quilt 35 for my hammock set up, and couldn?t be happier. I?m just back from a 5 day trip in the Wind Rivers, and was comfy in temps from low 50s to high 30s at night. I very much appreciated the head pocket on the cold nights. I also really like being able to access things without unzipping my bag. Great versatility and very light. It packs to half the size of the stuff sack. This has become my go to for any trip above freezing.

So much better than a sleeping bag in terms of comfort. Used for summer camping at altitude. Lows got down into the 40's and this was comfortable without any need to wrap up or use the headbox. I think it would work down into the high 30s for sure, especially if you wear layers, hats, etc. The ability to move, adjust and uncover/cover quickly makes for an improved sleeping experience. Highly recommended if you are on the fence about quilts.

I only have about 10 nights in this quilt so I am still getting it dialed in. Its plenty warm, lightweight and easy to pack. My only challenge is probably due to my low level of experience with quilts or me being overweight. I feel like I struggle to completely cover myself when sleeping on my side. No problems when on my back or stomach. In fact the hand pockets are fantastic for wrapping it around you when on your stomach. I will continue to use this quilt and recommend to others. For reference I am 5'10'' and weigh around 240 with a big beer gut. I have ran this quilt into the 20's with an uninsulated pad and was chilly but I wouldn't say I was cold.

I purchased the Nitro Quilt 20 for use mostly with my hammock. My first uses occurred during a late May cold snap where temps reached the mid 30?s. I was dressed only in running shorts and a T-shirt and remained very warm. I also had an under quilt for the hammock. Before the Nitro quilt purchase I was skeptical about the hood feature but found that it works very well and kept my head just as warm as my body. So far I would say this has been the best outdoor purchase I?ve made. I?m thinking that the Nitro will work great with my sleeping pad in the tent also.

I?ve bought two of these quilts and also the 35 degree one. I have used this quilt in the early spring to the late fall with temperatures ranging down to the teens and it has been great. When it it that cold I add another lightweight down quilt. I?m a stomach and side sleeper and also a big guy. So I usually feel constricted in a normal mummy bag. So for me this ticks all the boxes. I can wrap up in it, the hand pockets are great, they really help keep the bag in place and orient the way the bag should be on top of you when it?s dark. The hood opening is cool but not for me as I?m not a back sleeper. It is long enough though for me to cover my head when it?s really cold out. I love this quilt it?s great and I own three of them. Buy one for yourself you won?t be disappointed.

I love my nitro quilt 20 so much that I bought the 35 for summer camping. I spend a lot of days under the stars and these quilts are amazing. Also I?m a side and stomach sleeper and a big guy so These quilts check all the boxes for me. The quilt is roomy and quite comfortable. It?s long enough for me that it covers my whole head when I?m sleeping on my stomach. I?m 5?10?. Not to mention the sewn foot box, hand hold pockets and the great hood. Get one and I?m sure you won?t be disappointed.

I?ve been looking for a way to reduce bulk and weight for packing on motorcycle adventures and camping/backpacking. This is it! The quilt packs up very small and is super comfy for sleeping. I wear a set of technical clothing as a sleeping layer and this was warm t below zero Celsius. The only recommendation I?d make for future versions is the top wrap-around part of the quilt could be slightly wider for larger sleepers. Otherwise, I?m super impressed with this new piece of kit.

Spent four nights in April in Southern Utah and never once felt a night time chill. The quilt packed down to a great size and was quick and easy to regain its loft. I didn't find the hand pockets to be intuitive as it took a few minutes of experimentation to figure out how to keep the drafts at bay.

The quilt is very light weight and also very warm. Great for ultra-light hikers.

Super light weight, it was warm though did not use in cold weather yet. Would suggest 2 changes add a button and loop for the option to close the middle up more. You can see light and dark areas where down is uneven more down would be with the weight to get lower temp rating. Overall really like it just could be improved a bit.

I love this quilt. The hole where your head goes provides a lot of warmth when it gets cold. Honestly, it was a bit hot for me even at it's comfortable temperature rating of 35. This was easily remedied by shifting it to allow more warm air out. I wasn't sure about a purchasing a quilt, but am never going back to a regular sleeping bag. Plan on buying the 20 degree one for winter camping and just adding a liner to keep out those colder drafts. I'm sold on quilt life and never going back!

Super light, well designed, and appears very well made. I bought it for a backpacking trip on the JMT this summer. I?m a side sleeper so looking forward to trying out this new sleep system on a few training trips before then.

Best quilt ever
By Holcombe B.
I was HOT! i recently got back from a hut trip in the southern San Juan Mts near Silverton, CO. We had temps down to -9 F. The Nitro Quilt was so warm. The hood and hand pockets worked to perfection. Also the footbox was great when my toes got cold and easy to kick off when the feet started to sweat. So my overall impression of the Nitro 800 is warm and fuzzy. Love my new bag!
Best Backcountry Sleep Ever
By Henry H.
I am in love with this quilt. I'd been using a down bag unzipped as a quilt for years and finally decided to track down a proper quilt for weight-saving purposes. Depending on my mood, I will sleep on my stomach, my side, or my back. With this quilt, I was able to do all three. I've got a pretty wide frame and the quilt still hit the ground and kept me warm while side sleeping. The pockets for hands made wrapping up easy while stomach sleeping, and the hood-like pocket kept my head and face w...
