Osprey Talon 26L Pack

Love the Talon 26; I can stow everything I need for months of travel--laptop and a wide variety of clothing from tropics to northern latitudes. And the pack fits under most airline seats. Total weight with my stuff is about 12 lbs. Travel life is good!

Bought this bag as a replacement for an older Camelbak 22L that I used for about 4 years. Decided to go for the 26L for a little bit extra space since I have been doing longer hikes recently. After this past weekend, I carried this bag for 27 miles on 3 different hikes in Alaska. From technical mountain terrain, to longer gradual hikes to alpine lakes this bag carried all of my gear and was comfortable through it all. The 26L size is cavernous compared to what I thought it was going to be! I carried a arc'teryx shell, jetboil, 2L of water, food/snacks, full size camera and lens and still had so much more space if I needed to carry more stuff. Another reason I opted for the 26 was the new lid. This allows for quick access to all my gear. My only gripe with the bag is I wish there was some sort of compression up top to compress the upper portion of the bag. If I have something a little heavy above the lower compression straps, it will move around a lot when hiking and scrambling. Other than that, I love this bag and can't wait to use it some more!

I was looking for a one day pack that had excellent storage. This pack offered that and more (I pack an extra day of clothing, some food, and bowls for food and water for my dog). I like to be safe. It can hold all of that. I have find it comfortable on one day hikes.

Ive had my eye on the Gregory Miwok 24L but the opening was rather a bit tight, so I looked into the Talon 26L by Osprey, and I will say, overall the bag is much better. Nicer design, great top opening, but the big con is the comfort. The Osprey bag has a solid back frame with very thin padding. After putting in 10lbs in both bags, you could immediely tell how discomforting the Osprey was. I wish the back was not solid and had better foam pading like the Gregory bag. Not only is the bag uncomfortable, but the straps are also thinner than the Gregory.
