Peace of mind

Bought this as cabin luggage. Was always worried at the back of my mind due to "most airlines compatible". I shouldn't have been worried. At only 1.5 kg eight I managed EASILY to get under the Air Asia 7kg limit. Airlines with 10kg cabin weight limit.... pure luxury! So, the bag. Roomy. I love the compression straps both internal and external. I use busses and trains once in a country and that ability to just throw the rucksack over my shoulder is priceless. Love the material, the quality zips and the ease of use. Last point..... I'll never check luggage again! It's cabin luggage from now on.

Great pack

I recently used this on a two week UK trip. I pack lite, as a rule. This, with the smaller Daylite day pack (which I used everyday for walking around and carrying layers and whatnot), easily held everything I needed on the way there and back. It's convenient to use as a backpack when needed, it's easy to stow the straps and carry it around more like luggage. I'm not sure what kind of traveling I would need to do to require a larger or different pack. This did everything I wanted it to do and I'm really happy I bought this.

Fantastic and beautiful look

Excellent bag for someone who likes to overpack a little for a weekend and needs to take a laptop. I love all the compartments; easy to pack and stay organized. Beautiful fabric shell is durable with a sleek look to the bag. Traveling in cities I like that it does not looking like a hiking/camping backpack! This bag can be used for a week of travel.

Highly recommend!

Love this! 4 of my kids have one. Wanted to buy one for another kid and was disappointed they are out of stock. Bought them originally for class trips to DC and London. The older kids have used them to go to college and have borrowed them out to friends - who rave about them.

Quality backpack, i love it!

I bought this backpack for nomad life and have been using it for almost 7 years now. Most notably, the back pocket that you can tuck the back straps in kept my phone safe during a hostel robbery.

Great pack

Had had this pack for around 4 years, wife got one shortly after I did as well. We use them for 4-5 week overseas holidays as our main luggage (and carryon) and they have been to Asia, Europe, South America and Africa. The joy of walking off a plane and avoiding baggage claim :) ! Have never been pulled up for size issues on a plane and the bag is well thought out with good pockets and have lasted well. Will sometimes walk around for a few hours with the bag on and it is comfortable for that purpose. Great pack

Pet hair/dirt magnet

I loved the "old" (2015-20) versions of this bag. The shiny nylon was very easy to spot clean or wet wipe down after going through the airport. The new 2021 version dropped the ball. The material is abrasive, doesn't dry quickly, and attracts pet hair and normal dust/dirt the second you remove it from the bag/box. The main compartment zipper slants toward the liquids pocket, so you lose a little space (the liquids pocket is huge for its small purpose). The front organizer offers a better setup, and most other features are the same as the past two versions. That material, though?I don't know what they were thinking. It must have been tested in a clean room. Please bring back the ripstop-type nylon and add a functional (deep) bottle pocket! Why improve something that was released only a year ago? Wait and release significant upgrades!

Great Travel Pack

Europe is filled with stairs, stairs, and and more stairs! I use public transportation throughout Europe where it is necessary to go up & down flights of stairs at train stations. Also, many sidewalks are uneven. Carrying a pack allows me to maneuver so much easier on/off trains. I travel very light (about 18 lbs total) so the weight on my back is tolerable when I have to walk a 10-15 minutes to my hotel or hostel. The hip belt, sternum strap and compression straps make it comfortable to wear. I've watched way to many people struggle trying to get their rolling luggage up & down stairs and sometimes breaking a wheel on the cobblestone paths. Elevators & escalators are not the norm in Europe!!!!!!! I've carried this pack on 4 Europe trips lasting 2-4 wks. and it looks like new.

Perfect for my 45 day Eurail trip!

In the summer of 2019 I spent 45 days traveling by train throughout Europe with the Porter 46. It was nearly perfect for the trip, comfortable and easy to get on and off the trains, as well as walking around cities from the train stations to my accommodations. The overall design, quality of construction and attention to detail (gotta love all the pockets!) make this a top choice for those who want to travel light and well. The only thing I would add is a front pack for extra storage and day trips, and I'm about to get one for my next trip. Cheers!

The Porter 46 is the perfect travel pack.

I have used the Porter 46 pack for approximately10 years traveling to Europe. No complaints at all. It travels easily and generally can be used as a carry-on so you don't have the chance to lose your luggage. There is enough room for 10 days of clothing. This pack is made so well that it will easily last 10 more years. Also the "maroon" color of this pack makes it easy to identify on a baggage carousel if you do have to check your luggage when traveling on a smaller plane.

Just as comfortable in overhead storage as it is in train cars, the Porter 46 is the largest carry-on compatible pack in the series. This versatile weekend getaway bag offers the simplicity of a gear-hauling duffel along with everyday organization and travel convenience. A stowaway harness provides backpack-style carry when you need it and storage when the bag is checked. A sustainable build-including recycled fabrics, bluesign-approved materials and PFC-free DWR doesn't compromise Osprey's commitment to quality design, construction and durability. With padded sidewalls, convenient organization and a substantial suspension for backpack-style carry that disappears when checking bags, the Porter Series has set the standard for deluxe duffels. This season brings a relocated and dedicated zippered laptop and tablet pocket-and functional storage options for items both big and small-with multiple access points. When a duffel isn't enough and backpacking bags are too much, the Porter is the answer.

Straight jacket compression straps with padded sidewalls to help protect your bag's contents and allow you to fit more gear or compress the bag to a smaller size when it isn't fully stuffed. Structural sidewalls hold your bag open, making it easy to pack and unload, especially with the massive U-shaped zipper opening. Dedicated, easily accessible pockets provide on-the-go access to key items. Traveling is about experience and memories, and you'll have more time for both when you spend less time packing. The Porter harness and hip belt deploy at a moment's notice for backpack style carry and quickly disappear into the back panel for safe keeping when your bags are checked.

Zippered top pocket provides easy access to toiletries and liquids. Large panel lockable zip access to main compartment. There are also reinforced cord loops to anchor an optional Osprey Daylite daypack if you would like the convenience of a small satellite pack for short forays. Front panel vertical zippered pocket for books, travel documents and more. Straight jacket compression with padded wings and lower panel secures and protects clothing and gear. Front panel organization pocket for easy access to small travel items. Padded top and side handles provide comfortable carry. Protected rear panel lockable zip laptop/tablet sleeve for quick access at security or while traveling. Stowaway shoulder harness with adjustable sternum strap and whistle buckle. D-rings to attach a shoulder strap (sold separately). Stowaway padded hip belt to stabilize larger loads. Dual internal zippered side pockets. Soft, breathable contact surface for comfortable feel. Adjustable sternum strap with whistle. Storable pockets for harness and hip belt. Durable material for travel wear and tear and storable belt with foam padding and 1.5" (38mm) webbing.

The Osprey Porter 46 Travel Backpack measures (H x W x D) 21.5 x 14 x 9" (55 x 36 x 23cm), with a volume of 2,807cubic inches (46 liters) and weighs 3.26 lbs (1.48kg) when empty. Built to last with the main body made from bluesign-approved Recycled 500D Nylon Pack Cloth PFC Free DWR, and the accent bluesign-approved 420D Recycled Robic Nylon Pack Cloth PFC Free DWR and bottom is bluesign-approved 500D Polyester Pack Cloth PFC Free DWR.
