We're car campers in a Rivian R1S, usually building out a full basecamp with an awning, lounge tent, and kitchen for longer stays. For our shorter trips though-when we just need to roll in, set up, and get some sleep-the North Face Wawona 6 has become the ideal setup. We already love our Gazelle T-Hex Overland, but the Wawona 6 fits perfectly into the "lighter pack-out" side of our system. Setup is straightforward and fast (about ten minutes with two people), and the structure feels more refined than most tents in this size class. It's tall enough to stand in, the ventilation is excellent, and the front vestibule makes the whole footprint feel bigger than it is. We paired ours with the Wawona XL ground tarp, which extends the vestibule into a small outdoor room-great for muddy shoes, dog towels, or a dry coffee spot when the Pacific Northwest drizzle kicks in. On our last trip, we ran it beside the Kammok Crosswing awning off the Rivian, creating a covered path between vehicle and tent. It's a small thing, but it makes camp life smoother. For anyone car camping with dogs or a mix of gear (coolers, chairs, induction cooktop, projector, etc.), this tent strikes that balance between comfort and agility. It feels built for people who want quality and space without dragging along a full expedition rig. In short: well made, thoughtfully designed, and perfectly suited for car campers who build their setups with intention.

I have used this tent for the past three or four years and it is great!! Very roomy, plenty of head space and room for two full size cots. Once I learned to set it up, it's up in less than 15 minutes. The design really helps keep it dry even if am setting it up in the rain as there is no rain fly! The front vestibule is huge and has plenty of room for my two chairs and table...which is where I have the coffee maker for early morning coffee in bed! The back vestibule is great for gear storage or other non necessities. The two drawbacks are that the big side windows open from the outside of the tent and some water has pooled toward the vestibule, causing a drip. I used an extra pole for the latter to keep the material taught allowing the rain to run off. On the former it's just not that big of a deal, as I prop the vents out on top and leave the front vestibule 1/8th of the way open and she has plenty of ventilation. I have also closed the whole thing up and stayed toasty warm! Dr. J. Seriously I have a PhD in Camping!

Impressive tent, easy to setup and and very high quality. However the front screen needs as option to close because it gets cold really fast and easy.

First time putting it up took my partner and I over an hour! By the 4th time, 15 minutes tops. A WONDERFUL tent.

This tent is not for mild or cold climates. There is no front door, just a screen. In Yellowstone with nightly temperatures in the low 40's. use of any heater is almost useless. I had to velcro a blanket over the outside screen door just to capture warmth from the heater.

Love the ease to set up this tent (especially with 2 people). The tent is spacious and I appreciate the large openings to get my gigantic queen size blow up mattress into the tent inflated. My only (minor) complaint is that the ground cover does not extend into the vestibule area. I wish the dimensions of the vestibule were posted so I could easily buy an alternative ground cover.

I use it when I'm camping for more than 3 nights in one area. It allows me to store all my gear that I want to keep dry inside the sleeping area. The vestibule is great for my bike and keeps my camp chairs out of the night time dew. If it rains I can sit or cook and stay dry.

This is a very nice tent. We've had ours for a few years, and aren't considering replacing it yet. It's been weathertight and has withstood some heavy winds, and the ventilation is superb. The aluminum poles are not industry standard sizes, and North Face does not sell replacements or repair parts, so you'll need to find a specialist for repair. It would be improved by having solid panels to cover the mesh panels for cold weather. The footprint should have been included for the price, and it appears that people are having some issues with availability, although we got ours at the time of purchase. Still, this is a nice tent. Pack size is reasonable, the vestibule is a luxury, and it sets up easily after the first time. I'm tall, so I can set it up solo unless it's windy. When this one is worn out, another Wawona will be on the list, especially if North Face makes some improvements in the next generation. As an aside, we really like the subdued appearance of the grey/green.

It was almost the perfect tent. The door between the vestibule and the sleeping section is mesh. There is not way to fully enclose yourself in. So much cold night air and not way to stop it? brutal flaw

Overall this is very sturdy and roomy. Very nice ceiling height with plenty of room to walk around. The covered vestibule is great. I only wish that the door between the tent and vestibule could be closed completely for warmth and wind protection. There is only a screen door and the vestibule walls do not fully reach the ground. I am concerned this could be a problem on particularly cool/windy nights.

Loving it so far. Roomier than the last family tent and the vestibule is an added plus. Really like the numerous pockets on the inside to stash lights, keys, and other small items. Wish it included a footprint but that's about the only gripe so far.

We went camping near the water and it was perfect for our windspeed which picked up and took out other tents nearby while ours stand in place. I love this tent so much

Best tent ever. Game changer for our camping life! We have two dogs and are planning on having kids down the line. If you aren't a hard-core, 4 seasons camper who needs a full double-wall, this will be the perfect tent for most people. I did a lot of research and the other options just don't compare. Love the golden color too- dreamy!

Great tent! Only problem is that the footprints are out of stock everywhere and apparently discontinued. Please reach out TNF if you can find one for me

This is an incredible car camping tent. I just took it out for a trip and there was heavy rain for about 4 hours overnight and we stayed completely dry (our friends did not). The vestibule is a really nice feature. The tent has good airflow through it and we didn't feel stuffy even with the rain.. The setup took about 20 minutes, which was totally reasonable in my mind. The construction seems to be of high quality. My one issue is that you can't fit 6 people in this tent. You can put 5 people max in this tent. In my mind, it is borderline false advertising to say that this tent can fit 6 adults. Hence my 3 stars.

I've used the tent for several fall and summer camping trips on the East Coast on Assateague Island and Shenandoah. The tent is stormproof. We've weathered wind and deluges, including a storm that knocked out power nearby, and the tent stayed bone dry. The vestibule is huge and allows us to store our bikes and kid trailer. It also makes getting in and out of the tent easier in weather. The tent is a little tricky to setup but I have trouble knocking any design choices when everytime I wake up dry when everything around is drenched.

Went for an international pathfinder camporee this week and brought my Wanona 6. Storm came in with a strong wind gush. We even have to take shelter because of tornado threat and hail. I came back to our camp site, my tent is standing tall and no drop of rain came inside my tent after checking it. Other tents collapse, flooded. My club members already eyeing to buy one for themselves.

Great family tent, spacious for a family of 4. Overall easy to set up, except the rain fly is a bit awkward to attach (once it is up, works well, and should be easier the second time around). Also small detraction for not having a footprint available, although we just used a simple tarp based on the tent dimensions and this worked fine.

We just took this tent (family of four; two kids under 10) camping for three nights at a National Forest campground high in the Rockies. The layout of the tent is PERFECT for car camping, IMO. The vestibule is a great integrated design that functions so well with two doors. When it rained every afternoon, as it does in the mountains, we could take refuge in the waterproof vestibule and play games with plenty of room for four chairs and a little table. When a neighbor showed up on one side, we just kept one door closed for privacy. The ceiling height inside the tent is great for grown-ups changing and moving around, and plenty of pockets and loops allowed for storage, light sticks, and LED night-lighting options for the evenings. We didn't encounter any severe weather, but the options to guy out the tent are numerous and a few extra guy lines are included. This was important peace-of-mind because our last tent collapsed on us and broke a pole during a 4am gust front from an approaching thunderstorm, with no way to stabilize it. It got fairly warm a couple of the days even at 9,400' elevation, and we employed the multiple venting options to prevent the interior from getting too stuffy so we could go in and change or if a kiddo wanted to relax on the bed or nap. We closed it down when the evenings got cool and it seemed to prevent drafts and did stay a little warmer than the outside, but I doubt it would do too much during cold winds. Another advantage to having the vestibule is that you can have a bucket toilet in there for the evenings when the gals don't want to trudge over to the vault toilet in the dark. Overall I couldn't find much to complain about with this initial outing. We added a tarp for added ground protection, which I think is necessary with rocks and pine cones/needles under there, and I would also add an aluminum sleeve splint for the potential emergency with a snapped aluminum pole.

We loved our new tent so much. Very easy to setup and breakdown. Even my kids were able to do so by themselves. Very sturdy, waterproof and kept bugs away. The huge advantage is that mesh is giving you very high privacy inside the tent.We are looking forward to camping again in the near future.

This is a great family tent, harkening back to the bigger tents from the 70's! With the large front porch this tent is a really great tent overall! I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs space when camping.

One of the greatest tents ever made
By Extreme_Glamping
I can't praise this tent enough. I've used it several times since I bought it but last week I put it to the ultimate test, sleeping through a hurricane and remaining dry. We spent over 12 hours in no less than an inch of standing water around us- combined with the matching footprint, this tent's sturdy floor remained almost completely dry throughout. I did not notice a single drip from the roof, and the floor had mild condensation at worst, which I found amazing given that it had essentially ...

How did we NOT have water in our tent?
By Outdoor G.
We have an older style Wawona 6, but after DAYS of downpour I had to offer a review. Nothing less than a river running through our vestibule. NO WATER IN OUR TENT. UNBELIEVABLE!! We've used this tent hard for 3 years.
