The no extendable handle is somewhat of a setback but it's not terrible. I've found ways to work with it. My biggest complaint in that there is a support inside the bag that is a metal rod about 1/4 in diameter. The ends of the rod are decently sharp and those ends slide into a a small 1 inch pocket made of nylon strapping. Pretty much every time I use the bag the metal support slips out of the little pocket and goes around tearing up everything in its path. It's put holes in shirts, and rubbed scratch marks into various harder items of mine and I now end up putting cardboard in the bag to prevent it from tearing things up. The metal rod cannot be removed, it is riveted in on the back of the bag. If the sides were also riveted in it would be a whole lot better. Not sure why they went with such a janky way of holding the rod into place on the ends, but it simply doesnt work. The waterproof coating, hard/ durable plastic shell bottom, and size of the bag are great, but I'm too nervous to put expensive gear into it for me to recommend the bag to others. for the price I would have expected this to be better designed.

I'm a competitive equestrian, and use this bag around the country in various environments and weather. This bag is awesome - it has enough pockets and pouches to be useful and orgranized, while still keeping them low profile and out of the way for the main luggage compartment. The soft neoprene handles make it easy to pull behind, from airports to dirt and gravel competition grounds. Best purchase I've made.

We've used the North Face Rolling Thunder 36 on car, plan, and train trips up and down the U.S. West Coast, supporting up to four people (two adults, two kids). Where can I buy replacement wheels?

I'm a big fan of the Rolling Thunder series. Used 2 previous versions of these... as the sizes have since changed I had to size up a bit. While the capacity is amazing, you have to be a bit careful with the standard airplane weight limit if you pack this to the brim. My one complaint so far would be the positioning of the grab handles - North Face please add back the central handle to make this easier to roll around.

This is my second Rolling thunder after wearing out the first in 6 years. While substantial different, it appears to be more solidly made than the original and roomy. Will miss the larger end pockets that held misc that I could get to without opening main compartment. Also hold down in the bottom, should be adjustable on Both ends, to allow for securing items in bag. Missing Handle in middle and will have to use one of the end handles to lift causing imbalance while picking up.

seems to be pretty well made, especially if youre just going to be packing mostly clothing and essentials. I love the straps that cinch down so that if the zipper were to come loose, the bag isn't going to open up on accident. I might be a little skeptical if I packed this thing super heavy with gear, I could see the bag taking damage with the airlines tossing it around if it were stuffed full and heavy. Also its worth mentioning, this bag is pretty huge, its bigger than most checked luggage bags. Most airlines have weight restrictions on checked baggage and if you pack this bag full, its easily going to be over their stupid 40-50ib limit. For 95% of the trips I take, I end up using the Base Camp 28 bag instead, its quite large and easily manages most 1-2 week trips. So get this bag if you need more than average storage needs

This bag is huge and will hold my telescope, tripod, lenses and gear for trips up to Martis Peak in north Lake Tahoe CA., to view the sky at 8,743 ft. It has wheels which are perfect for me because I have to park 1km from the summit and need to wheel it the rest of the way. It's sturdy but not heavy which is great because it's a steep climb to get up to the top.

I bought this bag in 2022 before moving down from Seattle to San Diego and then flying out to a ship with it. It was in the back of the truck and things stayed dry inside thru light rain. It is big, so I don't use it as much, but it can hold a lot of gear. I have never had airlines ding its dimensions, but I it is easy to fill it with 70lbs worth of gear, so you might get hit for the weight. It stands up on its own, which is really nice when you are trying to keep it out of the way. People have complained there is no handle, but I think it does fine because the bag is so long but balanced I didn't really find it was lacking. The wheels have done fine over cobblestones, and nonskid. My only advice is make sure you need something this big before you buy it. I only use it for moving (or moving other people) or really long trips.

This bag is awesome. We looked at a lot of rolling duffle options for our son who was leaving the country for a couple of years, but none of them seemed as sturdy or big as this one. He hasn't had an issue so far with it being treated as oversized baggage and the quality is what you'd expect from The North Face. The only negative would be that there isn't a handle and there isn't a pull strap in the center but rather on the sides. Overall, we've been super happy with the purchase.

This is a great product?except, there's no parts available for customers! I bought 3 different brands of rolling duffel to compare. I sent the others back and bought the NF Rolling Thunder because it was head and shoulders above other brands. All was good until I went on my trip. The airline dragged my duffel in a way that ground down and flattened one of the wheels. It would barely roll. I called NF and asked if they had replacement wheels. "Sure do!" they said, "?but we can't send them to you" I asked how I was supposed to do that when I'm traveling and need my luggage to be my luggage and not a package going to NF. The reply was "I'm sorry, but the warranty people have to do that and we can't sell them to you." Really??? Briggs & Reilly sell them. Patagonia sells them. If I could place an extra wheel the and small took to replace it, this would be a 5-star rating. Now, it's just a 3-star because it's not luggage, it's an anchor!
