I bought this for a group of young executives and they all loved the versatility as well as the quality and functionality. I ended up buying one for myself as well - absolutely love it! Also, it is expandable for those trips where you need to take a few extra items. Absolutely perfect!

Exactly what I was hoping for. I get compliments all the time on it, but more, it carries what I want. I usually use the shoulder strap but the pack straps are comfortable with a full load.

This bag organizes everything I need to work between multiple sites throughout the week - laptop & tech accessories, the usual edc items, and a light sweater and coffee/water bottle that I toss in the middle pocket. I looked at a number of bags that were hybrid messenger/backpack bags, and I read and watched a number of reviews before purchasing this one. I'm glad I went with it and given the quality I suspect I'll be using it for a long time to come. What sold me on it was the positive reviews about the backpack straps, and knowing I can expand the middle compartment when needed to fit a cube with a change of clothes. The magnetic front clasp is really well done. Also, the brown waxed canvas is sturdy enough to maintain its shape, stands upright when I set it on the ground, and fits in my academic work environment. Neither too tactical nor too tech bro-y. Finally, I'm 5'0"/100lbs and this bag doesn't look comically large next to me, which is important, but it also doesn't look ridiculously small when my powerlifter sig other picks it up. Not sure how they managed that, but I'll take the win. My only gripe seems to be common with others - the included shoulder strap is pretty awful. It's thin, has questionable plastic ends, and squeaks when I walk. Squeaks! How gauche. I used it for about a week before buying a new one off Amazon.

The bag is great overall! There is more room that I had initially thought and has worked out well. I did mark it 4/5 stars because the shoulder strap/sling is quite uncomfortable and it's low quality. For a bag of this price point, I would have expected to see something a bit nicer. With that said, I tossed that strap in the trash and replaced it with something nice.

I'm a photographer and carry photographic stuff. This is the perfect bag. It does not call attention to itself by screaming "Grab me - expensive kit inside!" Inconspicuous. That's the word I'd use. When expanded, the briefcase holds a medium-format Fujifilm camera body with a short lens mounted, and two other lenses. I already had a decent photo shoulder bag but that's getting retired. There are times when the weight of the contents gets way too heavy for one shoulder and needs to be shifted to the back. And there are other times when I need it to be a shoulder bag so that I can easily access the camera and lenses. Originally, I ordered the wood waxed bag, but when it arrived, sent it back. I swear it is a shade of cool gray, nothing like the brown shown on the website. Anyway, I then ordered Galaxy - a great blue / gray shade.

After using the 3 way briefcase I gotta say it?s a home run! If low key bags are your thing this is a must have. It fits into executive level meetings as well as it fits into an interview room.

Functional and aesthetically appealing. Many components from my peers on this bag. The expanded portion is a plus. Lots of pockets and storage areas. Maybe suggest adding another internal zippered pocket?

I like the look, size, and general design of the bag. I really wanted to love it, and here's why I don't. The strap isn't padded, which for a narrow strap on a bag primarily designed to be carried over the shoulder is a flaw. The strap clips also squeak relentlessly when walking, which is annoying. At least one end pocket for a bottle or other gear would make a huge difference. I understand it's also designed to be worn as a backpack and so an end pocket could be problematic in that configuration, but it would make the bag better. At least some of the inside pockets should have flaps/zippers for keeping things contained when the bag is in backpack orientation. I am surprised that there are no clips inside for keys or other tools. In general, I just feel other bags do a better job with internal pockets, pouches, and slots for holding different things more securely. While I am selecting that I would recommend the bag, I would recommend it with all of the above caveats.

I bought my MR 3-Way Expandable Briefcase a month ago, and I am absolutely delighted with it. It is generously-sized while remaining compact enough to stow under an economy-class aircraft seat. I work in medical equipment sales, and this bag provides with space not only for laptop and cables, but also for headphones, protective eyewear, a small selection of printed brochures, as well as product accessories and tools for customer training. In my opinion, all that is lacking is a cord loop inside the outer pocket, which would allow me to use a small carabiner or similar to secure keys when I'm travelling. I agree that the shoulder strap could be better, and the bag could probably do with some feet or other protection on the underside. All-in-all an awesome bag, that I am proud to own and use every day!

This briefcase fits the bill for a professional looking yet sturdy bag for day use. I work in wildland fire and it fits in with the rest of my MR gear beautifully. I like that it expands, and that it accommodates both a laptop and PT clothes/shoes and other miscellaneous stuff.

The briefcase is the ideal size. I also like the color. It needs a couple minor fixes to make it great: padded shoulder strap and make the handles longer for when the briefcase is full.

I've had this bag for a few weeks now. Overall, I would recommend it. Well-built, and the 3-in-1 carry options are what drove me to it primarily. Good carry capacity with the expandable compartment zip-out. There are some tics, though. My 15" laptop barely fits (it is 13.2 inches wide; my 17 does not. I'm not sure you could get a 15-inch Toughbook in there, either. I haven't tried that yet, but will. An extra inch W and H would probably solve that issue. Also, the shoulder strap is just not a match for the rest of this bag, quality-wise. I ended up switching out for the strap from an old Office Depot laptop bag, as it was sturdier and had a pad. Capacity is adequate, but it would be better if the main compartment zipper (at least-both would be even better) extended to the bottom of the bag, so you could open it fully and flat. I carry a lot of gear, and fishing for specific items would be much easier with that kind of access. Overall hardware is pretty solid. Waterproof material and zippers, and the swivel strap clips are a must. The mag front flap buckle is very cool, but it could use a similar, albeit maybe smaller, type of quick release mechanism to hold the carry handles together. If you did all that and added a couple of molle points, this bag would have no equal.

I've used my briefcase for about two months after using the same Osprey Astro almost every day for about a decade. I switched because I own an older model pack made by the same group that I really love and I wasn't thrilled with the Osprey options. The pack is generally well built and designed. I love the storage capacity and expandability. It carries everything I need fairly easily, but my laptop does not fit in the laptop sleeve. I have not found that to be a problem overall. The front access panel is really handy and the space is well organized. I like the backpack strap option, but I almost always use the shoulder carry. In my view there are two issues that could be easily addressed. First, the shoulder strap could be improved. Overall the bag is quite rugged/durable, but the shoulder straps seem somewhat to be of lower construction quality, including the connectors to the bag. Compared with my older shoulder bag, and others that I considered purchasing, these are much more limited. I plan on working with a gear company to construct a stronger custom strap than was included with the bag. Improving the quality of the connection points and adding in a stronger shoulder strap would improve the bag a lot. There is also no shoulder pad on the bag (I simply added my old one to the strap). Finally, it would be better (for me) to have an external water bottle access pocket. This would make it more of a messenger bag than a brief case, but might be a nice feature. All that aside, I really, really like this bag and would definitely purchase it again. It is well made with lots of space. I'm hoping to get 10 years out of this one.

I have had this for a couple of weeks and checks almost all the boxes. A couple of inches in length more would make this so much better. Also another request for the next model, an external water bottle holder (one that doesnt take away interior space) would be much appreciated. Other than that it does everything I expect it too and the internal velcro pad is perfect for cc.

I love this bag it goes everywhere with me while I'm working. The only thing I do not like about it is. When your have it shouldered using the shoulder strap the plastic clip squeaks while you walk. Other then that it would be perfect

I wish I could give 4.5 instead of just 4 but this bag is awesome. The laptop compartment on the bag is very secure and the laptop does not contact the ground. My 15" laptop fits perfect but I am sure newer thinner models fit even better. There are just enough pockets for organization but not so many that I would feel overwhelmed with the storage offerings. The materials used, and zippers, are of the highest quality and work flawlessly. A few tweaks could have this bag be 5/5. First plastic hardware for the shoulder strap should be metal. This bag is so rugged but that plastic squeaks and overall feels a bit cheap even though it may very well be strong and durable. Second the zipper on the front pocket flap goes all the way past where the zipper can physically engage. It isn't a big deal but it's an aesthetic thing. Finally a loop/lanyard in the bag for keys would be nice. I don't necessarily need a luggage pass through but I would prefer that to the backpack straps. (although I know that defeats the purpose of the 3-way carry.

Also have a MR backpack but bought this for the extra compartment areas and pockets. Shipped fast and delivered smoothly. Love the lay out and the design as well as the 2 way wear option (as a backpack or briefcase. Magnet on the front pocket is super strong and sturdy. Quality is great as usual with all the MR products. Definitely worth the buy!

I have both a 3 Way Briefcase and a Coulee 40 from Mystery Ranch. They?re both amazing bags. I?ve been using my 3 Way on an almost daily basis for work (law enforcement) in the past 18+ months. The bag itself is still like new. Unfortunately the sling started to fail last week. On a couple of occasions one of the plastic sling swivels popped apart, dropping my bag to the ground. I sent an email to the Mystery Ranch UK team, who said failures shouldn?t happen but that they?d make contact with Mystery Ranch HQ. A week later and I had a great result from the UK team. They offered to replace the entire 3 Way, never mind just the sling! Now that?s what I call above and beyond customer service! Oh, and my Coulee 40 is still as good as day one. I?ll be sticking with Mystery Ranch for all of my load carrying kit going forwards!

This briefcase functions perfectly for work use. When used on a vacation trip, the expandable feature allowed for more cargo on the trip. I do have a small footprint laptop, so that is important. The zippers are stout and seem to be water repellant. Nice feature! Overall, I am very happy with this purchase!

I bought this almost a year ago when my son was born. I was tired of having a lame bag for a diaper bag...so I went big! I use this bag every day, part diaper bag, part brief case, it also works great as a range bag as well. It has handled every bit of abuse I have thrown at it! Oh I love the expandable portion, works perfect for a long weekend at the lake, and limits the over packing!
