I tried this out at home as a protective cover for my hammock. It worked well, and withstood strong winds easily. I look forward to putting it to the test out on the trail.

Excellent weight and size for backpacking. I used it at treeline. The wind required I add got lines and stake down the upwind side and it was surprisingly well. I bought the larger size to provide additional protection. Definitely recommended.

Super lightweight and seam sealed; no leaks and solid in high winds at Cherokee National Forest on the Appalachian Trail. A+++. Looking forward to testing in winter conditions to add a wind break snowshoeing.

Works great seems to be good quality and does the job as secondary fly for our ultralight tent or as a lightweight shelter.

Excellent tarp that exceeded expectations, especially with respect to ease of set-up enabled by the adjustable guy lines (no more taut line hitches).

I brought the 70 wing on my 2022 pct thru hike. Zero durability problems. Only complaints were in horrible wind where any shelter would have sucked. Wind sucks. Onlye issue is that it is nylon and therefore absorbs water and gets heavy. Dries fast! But stays heavy when wet. Still love it

I have not used this extensively yet, but as for most MSR products I can expect to get years of use from the thru hiker. I used it on a 10 day backcountry moose hunt in northern BC. It doubled as a dry storage for gear and also used for sun and rain protection. Super versatile, packable and simple. Also, great emergency shelter that is light enough that it can be thrown in a day pack.

I took this on a 60-mile trek across the Hornstandir Peninsula in Iceland in 30-45 degree and rainy/snowy conditions. I would set up one of the openings against boulder draping the guy line over the top of it, then prop up the other opening with my trekking pole. This kept me pretty snug with just my bivy and quilt. There was lots of room to lay out my wet clothes and to boil some water up in the mornings. It is pretty quick and easy to setup and is fun/rewarding finding the perfect spot that offers great views and protection. I would highly suggest this tarp to anyone that goes out with a bivy in less than ideal conditions.

It is not 100% waterproof as it is shipped. The main seam that runs right down the middle of the entire length of the tarp is not sealed. It needs to be sealed by the buyer after purchase. I found MSR's claim of the tarp being 100% waterproof deceptive and returned it upon discovering this flaw.

This is my second wing, I love it. But two things with this order: first you have no tracking, I was starting to think it was out of stock, then it showed up. Second my other wing came with very nice, light stakes but none came with this one, at a higher price I might add.

Don?t use it in bug season. The light colour attracts millions of mosquitoes under the reflection of the suns.

Light weight, quick set up, keeps you dry in the wettest of conditions. Help up and kept us dry for a week in the mountains of coastal Alaska on mountain goat hunt.

Just after purchasing the tarp, I took it out and it weathered 2 high sierra hail and rain storms like a champ. No leaking and super easy to maneuver.

Spent a couple weeks out in Provincetown and was happy to have had this. Not only did this protect me from a heavy downpour one night, but it is so large that I was able to set it up over my tent, my lounge chair, and my picnic table. This fly shielded me from the sunlight which is also a problem, at times, in the summer. I would suggest you purchase an additional pole, you would need the larger 8 foot pole, just so that you have even greater options, but trust me, you dont need it unless you are really settling down for a spell.

Having used the 100 Wing for the summer I really must say that it´s a really good Tarp/Wing. It needs some readjustment when wet, so if you use with the Thru-Hiker Mesh House 2/3, be sure to have lots of room between wing and mesh house if rain starts, failing to do so will give you a wet wake up... ;-) Love it, just wish they made a 150 Wing as well, then I could dry my wet gear between the Mesh House and the wing. I love it, why doesn´t it get a 5 star rating? The price is extremely high compared to some other brands. Maybe the quality makes it last for years, then it deserves 5 stars, but I have only used it this summer for ca 1 month.

I took the Thru-Hiker 100 Wing on a recent trip down Idaho's Salmon River and was thrilled with the design and performance. The Wing utilizes the simplicity and adjustability that make tarps great for savvy campers while combining them with advanced materials and thoughtful design details. Amongst the features I most appreciated was the size: that of a burrito when packed and large enough to comfortably shelter three individuals when pitched. Additionally, I loved the tensioners located at the corners of the tarp that make set up and adjustment a breeze. I used a variety of attachment points and supports including rocks, trees, paddles and stakes and was able to maintain guitar string tension through the night thanks to the lightweight reflective cordage. I would recommend the Thru-Hiker Wing to creative campers who like the idea of being able to adapt their shelter based on surroundings and conditions; this tarp promises to be a true pleasure.

Offering essential ultralight protection for minimalists, thru-hikers and long-distance backpackers, the Thru-Hiker 70 Wing and 100 Wing keep wind and rain at bay with minimal impact on total pack weight. The 70 Wing accommodates 1-3 people and weighs as little as .38 kg (12 oz), while the 100 Wing offers ample room for 3 backpackers at a minimum weight of only .49 kg (1 lb 1 oz).
Use a wing shelter by itself on a fastpacking trip along the John Muir Trail, or pair one with the Thru-Hiker Mesh House 2 or 3 (sold separately) for added wind and rain protection on a long-haul trip up the Continental Divide.
