I'm a climbing guide and

I'm a climbing guide and experiential outdoor leadership trainer. great tarp for sun / rain cover or for group conversations. Good tie in points. easiest to set up with 3-4 people, though it works all right with just 2. material is quite hydrophobic. solid stakes, but you really need a place to put the stakes. overall a good addition to the kit for certain situations

I'm very happy with this

I'm very happy with this sun shield. It's really heavy duty and withstands high winds. It's nice that you can set it up differently to suit your area you don't need flat ground like most other tents.

Excellent tarp

Used it camping solo and it's light enough to backpack with if you take the poles out. Groundhog stakes don't work with this is sand and have just used it on the beach with proper stakes for sand and it was brilliant. Kept the gulls off and a welcome respite from the sun. Also good in wooded areas to stop tree sap, twigs, leaves etc falling into food. Built well and very stable.

Tensioner sometimes a cutter

A long time we used our vistawing, bought it in 2002. But the last years the coating of this nice thing became sticky and "stinky". So we bought the rendezvous 200 wing 2 years ago. The same fabulous cut: no folds when its built. Last year we camped near to the eastern sea near by Kiel, Germany, with our stormking and the rendezvous 200. A couple of days we had wind with force 5-6. And suddenly 4 of the 7 guy line torn! Directly at the tensioner! So we replaced the msr-tensioners with this old fashioned 3 whole Tensioners and the problems were gone. Not so nice. We were surprised unpleasant. Cause we knew msr as an manufacturer of total reliable equipment. I Think we will exchange the guy lines for the thicker reflecting cords with this nice camrings. Because this wing is very nice except this unfit detail.

Old School

My Moss Outfitter Wing, is the predecessor to the Rendezvous and has served me well for 25 years. MSR has upgraded the material and you can be confident in this product. I have used it with as many as 6 poles and have flown it off the side of my adventure van using suction cups to attach it to the roof!

Review of Rendezvous 200 Wing

I?ve only used my new 200 Wing a couple of times this fall and found that it met all my expectations in both wind and rain. It?s a bit of a handful to set up but I?ve used one many times before so we knew what to do. It is ideal for a large party where weight isn?t an issue. I expect the stakes that come with it may be a little light in a real blow so I plan to add another bigger/heavier set. In the past we have found double staking some of the windward guy lines usually does the trick.

great sun/rain protection but stakes need to be improvised

I use this shelter for rafting, it is a life saver in rainy conditions and exposed sun situations. It is made of high quality material and can be configured into shapes and heights to fit your environmental conditions. It is not easy to set up with one person but if you have a group it goes up quickly. Reading other peoples reviews the common theme seems to be the stakes are inadequate and I would second that. To improvise I made 12 inch wooden sand stakes, once these are pounded into the sand the tarp is not moving even on windy days. Sand stakes were made on a table saw using some old wooden flooring.

Outstanding sun protection at the beach

Took this to the beach for sun shelter and it performed flawlessly - even in the face of wind up to 20mph. I used snow stakes buried horizontally in the sand as ""deadmen"" and I was amazed at how stable this was in sustained med-high winds. Other people had those big metal ""skeleton"" fold out shelters and they were taking them down due to the wind while the Rendezvous just stayed steady in the wind. Highly recommended for beach sun shelter!

Yes....

So, this is a River Wing in nature, and improves on other models that have been out there. I love this canoe camping. Typically you can increase the overall height by taping an 18 inch stick to the main poles, making it easy to walk under and cook under. It is not rocket science. The advantage is that this set up is small, and light compared to many others. Im trying to imagine a scenario where the rope or stress points break as mentioned below??? I'd think the blue fabric would tear before any of that happened. I've used the Rendezvous in windy conditions on the John Day, the Willamette and other rivers in Oregon, and in the high desert in Nevada where the shade was awesome. I think this product does more than once should expect.

Great Tarp, poor quality attachment points

I purchased this tarp after much research to replace a much-used older tarp of similar design. It set up easily and was very stable. Using two extra MSR poles we expanded the area to comfortably cover a large picnic table and still have room to walk around it and remain dry. However, less than 24 hours after initial set up the main metal grommet attachment at the ""foot"" of the tarp failed. It was pitched in a sheltered area, had no undue load and had only sustained a light rainfall. Also, the loop attachment design on the other corners make it difficult to keep a (manufacturer recommended) pole in place as the loops tend to slip down the pole. I do like the design of the tarp and will keep it once it has been sent for repair, but will probably have my sailmaker install metal grommets in all the corners. Great tarp, but disappointing basic design flaw, especially considering the price-point of this tarp and the high quality of MSR products that I have owned and have come to expect.

Already held up in a major thunderstorm!

I set up the Rendezvous 200 in our backyard to practice for our upcoming 6 week road trip. It was easy to set up. We switched out the cord for cam straps since weight is not an issue on this trip. We had purchased additional poles so we used those. A major thunderstorm, enough to cause localized flooding, rolled through about 30 minutes after we set the tarp up. The tarp was standing and the ground underneath was dry when the storm was over. We are looking forward to using this tarp on our upcoming trip.

Great Shade

Bought this for extra camp shade for my kodiak canvas tent. We do lots if burner festivals. This links a couple tents together with shaded mats. I've seen many pop up shelters wrecked while my wing fluttered. Our carpets and mats stayed dry while folks around us were soaked. I'd really like one 10x the size of this for a village camp. Wing 200 shelter is amazing

I recently purchased the Wing 200 Shelter. i had thought about purchasing the 120 Wing but it was out of stock. The Wing 200 turned out to be the perfect side for my recent car camping/mountain biking trip. The first day it poured down rain and the next 2 it was close to 75 and sunny. Welcome to Spring in Central Oregon. I set up the Wing 200 over out table and it covered that are perfectly, giving us enough rain perfection the first day and sun protection the other days. This was easy to set up, great coverage and we stayed dry and protected from the sun...all in the same trip!!!

Great protection--rain or shine.

I bought this last year right when the new design came out. I've used it as a base camp at trail races and on multi-day river trips. Using oars, tress, etc. will give you more height when you pitch it. Have not experienced a true high wind situation yet, but so far it appears bomber.

Perfect for group shelter from rain or sun!!

I have used the 200 Wing Shelter for many years. Much of this is guiding and leading whitewater rafting/camping trips on the Salmon River ""River of No Return"" in Idaho. Trips are during June-October, and encounter every weather imaginable. Often rain and high winds. The Group Shelter is ideal, erected in many fashions or designs over a months period. Sometimes for sun protection at lunch. Often to shelter the kitchen and cooking crew during dinner and breakfast. Guides spend many nights sleeping under the shelter!

MSR Rendezvous Tarp/Fly

I used this for a 2-week period this summer and it was just great. The larger sized tarp gave me 200 sq feet of protection, allowing me to set it up above my entire camp site, which consisted of the large picnic table, my 3 man tent, and my lounge chair. It was high enough, with 8 foot poles, so that i could walk beneath it without having to squat, being that I am 6' 1"". Having this tarp also protected me from the hot sun. In addition, this comes with two 8 foot poles, and you can buy an extra one for only 50$, and for me that extra one would have made it even more enjoyable, but its certainly not needed.

Great for beach and base camp

We bought the 200 in May for a family beach trip and it worked great. A little more difficult to put up with just one person in the wind on the beach but with two people, it is a piece of cake. We bought two adjustable poles and sand stakes to go with it and are glad we did. The regular stakes won't hold in the sand and the added height made it comfortable for about 10 people to sit under. Also use it as a shelter when camping and have found it to be great in the rain and in keeping the heavy morning dew away.

Tarp is great, tie down cords are not.

I bought this for my school for camping trips and outdoor events. Goes up easy and fits a lot of kids' gear. The problem is the cordage they gave for the 200 is poor. We had wind up to 20 KM/hr and twice the windward side tie downs snapped. All three. A colegue of mine has last year's version that was $150 more and his cordage is much thicker and did not snap. I had to take the 200 down after the second time the cord broke, his remained up and withstood the gusts of up to 40KM/hr that came later in the day. Clearly MSR cut corners with the quality of cordage. If it would have functioned as well as the older model I would give it 5 stars. If they replace or improve the cordage I would recommend this product. As it stands now I can't as it can't preform in wind which often accompanies rain.
