I was looking for a robust tent that was suitable for field and after much deliberation I settled on the elixir 2.. not super light but that's not what I was looking for as much of our work was vehicle or canoe access, with the occasion backpacking trip. Great tent.. woke one morning after a considerable rain event total surrounded by water but tent was completely dry.. impressive.. easy to sent up , tough, and withstands the elements after 5+ years..

This is a great bombproof tent that I use myself. It is roomy and has the height to sit up inside. I like the 2 doors, vestibules and storage space inside and out. It comes with the ground tarp and is relatively easy to pitch also. I only wish there was a bit more ventilation with the fly on as it can get warm inside on a hot day. But I would definitely buy another one if needed.

My first trip with this tent, we had 50mm of rain overnight, and it continued raining all weekend. Woke up with the tent sitting in a big puddle but the inside was dry.

I bought this tent a few years ago. Two summer of 2024 nights on a PEI sandy beach: Thunderstorm and downpour the 1st night. 6 hour downpour and high winds the 2nd night. My GSP dog and I were snug as a bug in our tent cave. The pounding surf, the wind and rain kept me awake (the dog slept) but we were totally dry and totally secure. The fly dried off quickly when the rain stopped so it was an easy teardown. THANK YOU :)

Bought the tent 3 years ago and on the 4th use the seams started to leak during a rain storm. Emailed the warranty department 7 months ago and sent pictures of the seams and never heard back. Other than the fly, the tent is excellent and the rest of the MSR equipment I have performs well in the back country.

It is not a 2 person tent unless you are really friendly with the other person. Zipper could be better at corner bend, it has to be encouraged to go around it. Nothing that makes this better than any other tent this size I have used.

Similar to other reviews, my rain fly is starting to fail apart. Seam tape is peeling, the fly feels "sticky", and it's starting to flake apart. Maybe the fly and tent were manufactured separately negate the tent is holding up great. Super great tent... good size for 2, perfect for 1 person if you don't mind the extra weight. Have used this in snow and it held up great. Hopefully I can get the fly issue sorted out or I'll have to look for a replacement system.

I work as a camera operator for natural history films and much of my work is in remote and inhospitable environments. MSR tents are the only tents I have seen consistently hold up in extreme high winds. These are the only tents manufacturer I will use in the field after having other tents fail on location leaving me in a difficult situation with a broken shelter in a remote location.

Have been using the tent for for a few years now (at least 10 trips), and it's been working well overall. The zippers are a little delicate and showing some strain on the seams. Like some reviews have mentioned, the rain fly has shown the most wear. The seam tape is falling apart, and the fly is no longer water resistant. I sent it in to the repair shop in Seattle and they sent it right back saying "new fly".

Like many of the other comments in this section, we have had the rainfly become completely unusable. The wax layer has crumbled off on our 2 tents and now the lightest rain and even dew penetrates the rainfly and gets in our tent. I tried contacting customer support AND opening a repair shop case but have gotten no response. The lack of of communication is extremely disappointing, especially considering I wanted to give them the chance to respond before leaving an 'unfavourable review' as the seemingly only way to hear from a representative. Tent is 4/5 stars, faulty rainfly is a big issue and communication with MSR is 0/5 stars.

Took the Elixir 2p out as soon as I got it. Camping trip for the weekend, rained on and off and the tent held up great. Very high quality stuff from MSR, as usual!

This tent is fantastic! I had solid rain through the day and night- tent was sitting in a puddle- and I was warm and dry all night. Setup is easy. The vent/screen with space between the rain fly and the tent makes for good airflow and temperature regulation even while it's closed in for long periods. I'm an MSR tent customer for life.

Great tent, quick to setup and very sturdy in the wind. The porch/vestibule is a good size, easily fitting two hiking boots and two 80L backpacks. It makes the space feel much larger than it is. One of my favourite designs of this tent is that it flares at the base, so if you have broad shoulders, you can lie on your back without fear of taking over your tent buddies' space. - Negatives: I can never line the poles up perfectly to the seams, which visually upsets me, and there is sometimes a small puddle on the roof if there is no wind to blow it to one side.

I put this tent through the ringer, 28 day canoe trip in northern Ontario and Manitoba. Lots of rain and high winds, quick to pitch/strike kept me dry and held up well. This is my second 2 person tent in 15 years, my last tent was a Zoid 2. I fully expect this tent to last just as long. I trust and obviously support msr when it comes to quality and dependability when it matters.

I bought my tent in 2019 and was extremely happy with it for the first couple of years. I use it a few times a year for both back country canoeing and car camping. Last year it started to leak and upon inspection the fly seams appear to be crumbling. I will put a seam sealer on the fly as I have a major northern trip this year but I'm disappointed that I need to do this.

Tough enough for Alaska
By Marty
I've been using the Elixir 2 to shelter a single client on our multi-day Alaska raft trips. The pole design is a reconfiguration of that developed many years ago by Moss tents and dropped from use when MSR purchased Moss. I was happy to see MSR resurrect this approach: It's STRONG, much stronger and more wind resistant than a simple "X". The color coded clips make this baby a snap to set up. Best of all are the sturdy fabrics; 68D rain fly, 70D taffeta floor and 40D canopy make this a sturdy ...

Great 3 Season Shelter
By Corb
Picked up the MSR Elixir 2 at the beginning of 2018. Spent 3+ weeks backpacking through Utah for a photography expedition this winter and another 3 weeks backpacking around Colorado for the remainder of the winter and start of spring. It has been a very windy, cold last few months while out backpacking, and the tent has performed beautifully. Very easy/ quick to set up and tear down. Very easy to shake clean during tear down, with poles and ground tarp attached to the body. Has put up with ni...
