Perfect for man and Golden Retriever, I've used it for 5 BWCA trips and have had no issues.

A couple of thoughts. I didn't realize from the description and the reviews - this one person tent has two fly vents - one at each end. I've only seen this feature on 2 person versions. The light colored fly makes for a friendlier and brighter interior and attracts heat less than dark green. I'm 6'1" and the seated head-room is generous. If you're super conscious of weight then leave the footprint at home and get light-weight pegs. Great choice for weekend hikes and car camping.

Well thought out design. Just the right strength to weight ratio.

Very nice tent I purchased this tent for bike touring and backpacking. After extensive research I felt that this tent was the best quality that fit my budget. I like the extra setup options that are available such as the fast fly footprint setup and also the availability of adding the gear shed if desired. The activities that I will be using it for will be more recreational so I can live with carrying an extra pound of weight since it's a quality shelter. It is very easy to set up. I've only used it in the field one night so far, and it performed well. I hope that it will serve me well for many years as others have shared in their comments.

It gets knocked for the weight, but for how versatile and durable it is, I'll gladly keep carrying it. The mostly solid walls and rainfly vents make it a fully functional 4-season tent which won't fill up with ice when it's -15°C out. The (real metal!) poles are strong enough to hold up in any wind. The thick-as-necessary fabric means I'll use this for 20 years without replacing it. I'm not a fan of having 6 tents that I change depending on conditions. I'd much rather have one for everything, and this is it.

I've used this tent on 7 trips thus far in the Bighorn and Wind River mountains of Wyoming. I'm 6'3, and have to tell you the spec length and widths are incorrect. This tent measures 81.5" x 32.5". The peak height I haven't measured as for my height it is good. I'm a side sleeper, so until I stretch out I have room. Wish it were wider more than I wish it were longer. Having knocked it for the incorrect dimensions, the vestibule is very large, no measurement as I am quite satisfied here. The best things about this tent are price, how warm it is, vestibule size, and the durability of the fabrics. I upgraded the stakes to MSR Groundhogs. I'm pleased the tent came with a footprint included. The tent is fairly easy to set up. One area I'm still in doubt about is the tent's wind worthiness. The fly and tent body connect to a crossbow pole, but no part of the fly connects to the two main crossing poles. The tent has "survived" quite nicely in upper 30 mph gusts (estimated), so wonder about its ability to remain upright in higher winds. I'm pleased with this tent overall because of it's price and durability. If the tent were the specification size as stated, would give it 5 stars. Do not understand how other "tall" people, especially back sleepers, have been okay with being "shorted" on length.

I purchased this for a week long elk hunt in Colorado. I am very pleased with ease of use. Not hard to understand, no extra parts and complex designs. Very sleek and good looking tent. I did not have strong winds but I believe the tent would be sturdy enough for it. Great buy! Would buy again / recommend to anyone. Five stars

i really like the ease of setup, quality of materials, design, etc. Where this let me down though is that I am 6'6" and MSR purports this tent to be 86" in length, or just a bit over 7'. This is blatantly inaccurate. When I measure the inside of the floor tub at the ground, it is only 82". When you add wall slope 3" from the floor to account for a pad, the length measurement drops to a mere 76", or 6' 4". My head and feet were pressing out on the walls of this tent when on my pad. add condensation and you will have a wet head and foot of your bag. Hello hypothermia. I returned this and sadly cannot use ANY MSR tent as this is the longest floor they offer. Though after reading about the numerous issues with the rain fly's delaminating, I think I dodged a bullet.

Borrowed sons tent to go kayak camping in the outback. Tent preformed great in a torrential downpour with heavy winds and saved the day. 1/4 of tent ended up being in an inch and a half of water (floor was like a waterbed!). Remarkably no leaks. Super impressed. Will buy an MSR tent when the time comes.

I love it! Not the lightest for a single man tent, but it has a smart design with plenty of room for a tall guy like me and a spacious vestibule. It appears to be well built and I expect it will last for a long time.

Great one person tent for entry level backpacking. Very versatile and is excellent for various camping style. I used it while backpacking in the backcountry and despite the little added weight, the tent is thought, completely waterproof and easy to set-up.

Easy to set up, roomy and well built. I use it for motorcycle travel and that it is relatively light weight and compact is a real plus.

I'm 6'3 and it's good fit , Winter camping and was fine . The wall is a bit steep on the non door side and that's an issue if the wind changes on you .

Been motorcycle camping for 20+ years and saved the best for last. Used in one of the worst rain & hail storms I?ve been in and all was good. Plenty of head and sleeping room. Packs small, well thought out and quick set up. Many thanks for a great tent Pic from Willville Bike Camp, Meadows of Dan Va Frank

I already had the elixir 3 man for canoe camping and was very happy with the quality of the tent, and it performance on downpours that lasted an over a day as well as how comfortable it is in bother cold spring/falls and hot summers. I got the solo tent for bike packing. While not the lightest tent, it has the same durability, and great price range for what it is and having a footprint, solid frame and good fly.

Advantages: Comfort, convenience for installation and assembly, thoughtful design, the presence of a footprint in the kit, a convenient cover, excellent moisture and wind resistance Flaws: Not fundamental: the price is high, weight., The pegs are simple hooks, but this is not so important, given the quality and comfort of the product, you can put up with this. And here is a very important drawback: if the inner tent is not stretched enough with pegs, the door of the inner tent cannot be closed and opened in one motion with one hand, you need to hold and fix the door with the zipper with the other hand. But if it is enough to stretch the inner tent on the pegs, then the doors of the inner tent open and close in one movement with one hand, but at the same time, stretch marks appear on the material of the door of the inner tent, in the area of ??the zipper bend, and the threads of the fabric diverge there. And this is unpleasant A comment: Considering the pros and cons outlined by me, I am generally satisfied with the MSR Elixir 1 tent. If it were not for the stretching of the fabric of the doors of the inner tent in the area of ??the zipper bend, I would give the tent an "Excellent" rating, and so I give it "Good"

I have an early version of the Elixir 2 and bought the Elixir 1 so my teenage could have their own tent on family camping trips. The design of these tents is so solid and stable, and the materials are more robust than lighter tents, but that is why I bought it, so the weight penalty is acceptable. I would still consider it for a 3 1/2 season option options for backpacking. The different colored door panel on the newer design makes setup easier, and the 3-panel vestibule makes more storage and better ventilation options. For a robust, workhorse tent for families and rental fleets or programs this is a great, affordable option that's built to last. If you are looking for light weight look elsewhere.

I love the MSR Elixir Backpacking series of tents- 3 & 2 person- for my BWCAW outfitting. I've stocked these for a few years now. This season I added their single person tents to my stock - due to COVID-19 and the goal of social distancing in camp. I'm impressed with the height of this tent, allowing the user to fully sit up and not feel claustrophobic. Sweet!

We use these tents for mountaineering trips, primarily on Mt Shasta. The description of these as Durable 3-season tents is quite accurate. They've been standing up to high winds and nasty weather quite nicely so far. I don't recommend these as a replacement for 4-season tents when those are needed, but they're great tents for just about everything else.

Quality at the highest level, standard design, the highest reliability and reasonable price. No high-tech technology - just a good product for the right price. An intuitive “interface” is also assembled even in the dark in a matter of minutes. Very windproof, simple and reliable (maintainable by 100% during a hike). durable (and, unfortunately, heavy) polyester sprays (very durable, easily tolerates all kinds of bushes, branches and stones. I bought a tent in the USA, but I use it now in Russia. In the photo with a tent, an old Russian church built of stone in 1150 by Russian Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky

Best tent I have owned
By DUTCHIEBOAT
Have just used my new Elixir 1 in Western Isles of Scotland in sunshine, night time rain and a fresh westerly wind and found it to be warm, waterproof, and capacious for one person. The extended porch is vast and the semi geodesic shape provides lots of headroom. As a short person, there was also a significant space for storage at my feet. Easy to erect on ones own and looks good. Liked the gear loft for keys, phone etc and all the loop points for lighting etc. Only downside is that a few ext...
