Great snowshoes, fragile front segment

I've owned four pairs of these snowshoes for approaching ice climbs. The binding system works great and avoids cutting off circulation to your feet. I snapped a rear strap in cold conditions once, so it's good to have a couple spares. For the most part, the snowshoes hold up well in rocky conditions and deep snow. The crampons and spiked frame have good grip. The Achilles heel of these snowshoes is the flimsy attachment of the front section, right where it's bent pointing upwards. This point inevitably cracks and snaps off after a year or so. It's happened to me and my friends, so for really?passionate snowshoers it seems unavoidable. Reinforce this component and they'll be perfect! The manufacturer was good about replacing the broken snowshoes, so I'll give them four stars.

Revo re

I love the snowshoes, especially the binding design. I have been a long time user of my dad's Evos and the Revos are really a nice improvement in design. I was happy to get the longer Revos as I do not feel I need the tails 100% of the time like I do with the Evos

Best I've ever had.

I love these for big ascents in deep snow. Durable, stable, great traction. Not a fan of green and red because they look like Christmas BUT I couldn't live without them. Maybe make the bindings blue or green in the future.

Great durability and traction

After three seasons using these snow shoes in Alaska I have been impressed at the quality, durability and function. I use these snow shoes for back country travel and hunting in untracked terrain, the add on tails can help depending on snow conditions. The step bars are a great help to save foot stress when climbing steeper slopes. The group of five I travel with all have the same snow shoes and we have only had one breakage of a heel strap in the last three years. When traveling in untracked snow i appreciate the way the snow shoes keep the snow from pushing out the and aid in compaction of the snow under foot to minimize postholing. I will note that the comments about the teeth damaging clothing can occur if the user is not used to keeping their feet apart when snow shoeing. I do not like these snow shoes on packed/heavily used trails that are ice resembling concrete since the frames having the teeth on the outer edge like to flex and I worry about breakage, i would recommend a different style snow shoe or foot wear traction if your travel is on hard packed/ ice trails.

Wyoming approved

The binding system is very good and the snowshoe feels light and has great traction. The ascent bar under the heel is very handy for climbs and easy to engage / disengage. These are noisy would be my only critique. No regrets on this purchase.

Perfect binding and great snowshoe!

I just took these up to Yosemite for their maiden adventure and they worked superbly! The conditions were somewhat cruddy, it rained and froze twice then snowed. The terrain varied between crusty ice to powder and the Revo Ascents tackled it all without issue. The Paragon binding was my absolute favorite feature though! I used two different types/sizes of boots and the bindings fit perfectly every single time, the first time. No stopping to adjust or wondering if my foot was straight or in the right place. The Paragon bindings are amazing and if you don't buy this snowshoe at least get one with a Paragon binding.

Excellent Snowshoes!!

Really great snowshoes. Very true to their weight rating without the extensions (if not a bit more!). I needed them for their exact design purpose (steep slope ascents, variable conditions) and they do not disappoint.

Not as durable as advertised

After a lot of research, I decided to go with the revo ascent snowshoes for myself and my girlfriend. The feature that tipped use in favour of the revo's over the lightning was the emphasis on durability. Today, after using these snowshoes for almost 2 months, the binding has begun to separate from the frame of the snowshoe. Luckily I purchased these snowshoes from MEC and the repair/replace process has already begun. Hopefully this defect was an anomaly as the snowshoes perform well. However, I will be treading lightly until I regain confidence in this design.

Highly Recommended

I use these shoes almost every day all winter. I do a lot of bushwhacking and am never on groomed trails. The Reva Ascents really are excellent for moderate terrain and do quite nicely on steep slopes. I got the tails, but all the deep, fluffy snow came in December 2017. But perhaps in February 2018? Northern NH weather is very varied. As with all MSR shoes, the lateral stability for me is the biggest plus. You can traverse just about anything without fear of sliding. The bindings (over the years) seem to have gotten easier to fasten and get out of which is very welcome. These are very stable shoes. If you put them on right they NEVER come off. And that's the best especially when the snow is deep.

Durable and comfortable

The steel frame and composite deck make these snowshoes as ""bombproof"" as they come. The incredibly simple but effective bindings are a plus as well. Most moving parts are easily field repairable, which is a big advantage for winter travel in hard, rocky terrain. The only downside is that they're a bit more noisy on hard snow than my Lightning Ascent snowshoes, but that's a small price to pay for the extra strength.

Great

Although I've used snowshoes before this is the first pair I've owned. I cannot really compare them with any other model but I'll say this after one use: the traction is out of sight, the float in some fairly dry snow is excellent and the televators are indispensable (and just as easy to engage / disengage with the handle of a ski pole as MSR claim). The bindings are quick and easy to use, and they're quite secure and versatile. Add in super fast shipping and you've got a winner.

I bought these to help out with back country snowboarding. So far, so good. But, the straps could be a bit longer. I have a lot of trouble getting them around my size 14 snowboard boots.

Great snowshoes !

Good snowshoes for mountain trails. They are a little bit noisy when used on hard trails. Great traction uphill but not so much downhill. Pretty durable, you can almost walk on rocks !

Like the design BUT!

I like the new design of the binding but the 9"" to get around the boots I snowshoe in is not enough. Had to return them to REI as they were very difficult to connect the binding straps in bad weather - snow and wind at Glacier Gorge Junction trailhead in Rocky Mountain Nation Park.

Excellent Snowshoes for Excellent Adventures!

I recently purchased these snowshoes after being frustrated with my older pair of Tubbs. The binding system on the Tubbs would often come undone and made it really hard to adventure into the back country. I'm an avid snowboarder (also a splitboarder) so having snowshoes that not only fit my snowboard boots but stay secured is very helpful. The binding system on the Revo Ascents is really easy to use and stays secure through all terrain. The crampons on the bottom and outer edges offer unparalleled traction on ice, snow and slush. The heel rise bars are easy to use with ski/ trekking poles and make ascending steeper grades less tiresome. I'm also really impressed with how light weight the pair were, I can easily attach them to a pack. Overall I am thrilled with my snowshoes and would recommend them to anyone looking to invest in a new pair!

Bombproof!

Used the Revo Ascents for two seasons now and love them. Last season was a poor snow year for Bend, OR and conditions were marginal at best. The Revo Ascents handled ice, deadfall and rocks without a worry. Bindings are super adjustable and easy to use.

What a great snowshoe!

I just received the MSR Revo Ascent snowshoes for Christmas. My wife and I have been wanting to get into the sport, We are 50 now and try hard to keep ourselves in shape. We love to go hiking but never got into snowshoeing until this year. Have a friend at work who snowshoes and loves it. She in-fact has a pair of MSR's an older pair, but loves them. As I researched the different brands I kept coming back to the MSR brand for several reasons, one of the main reasons was the way they are built and have grip support all the way around the edges, As I am new to the sport I wanted a pair of snowshoes that my wife with her rheumatoid arthritis could handle. We each got a pair and they are so light weight, easy to use, One of the reviews I read on a different brand said the person slipped and went down a hill side luckily he had a ice ax to stop himself. This person mentioned they bought MSR snowshoes for the grip went back to that same trail and had no difficulties. We live in Utah and have some of the best areas to enjoy the outdoors and where we live in Northern Utah it's gorgeous for winter activities like snowshoeing. I work a 7 on 7 off schedule at a local hospital and finally had an opportunity to go I give these snowshoes a try and I must say for my first time snowshoeing it's a blast! I purposely went into the deep snow to see how these held up. I am 5'11"" 200lbs. The recommendations from MSR was to get the 25 and then get tails to go on it if needed. Other brands suggest on your weight you go bigger but MSR explains quite well why not to do that. I only sank maybe 4-6"" tops and didn't have tails. When I stuck my poles down in they went very deep and the trail I was on is used frequently by the deer and you could see they sank much deeper thank I did. So I can only imagine if I had had tails on the shoes how much more I would have floated but the shoes with my weight worked excellent! For the moment I will hold off purchasing the tails. I want to thank Cascade designs for the info they have on their site that helped me make my final decision to purchase the MSR, I even sent several friends this Christmas to this site so they could read the info as well seeing how they were looking into buying snowshoes. With that said 4 other people I refered to Cascade's site ended up purchasing MSR snowshoes. You are welcome! Lol. For first time snowshoeing folks you will absolutely love the MSR brand. So easy to use, very light weight, and I am so glad I purchased this brand. Sorry this review is so long, hope it helps anyone trying to figure out which brand to go with. I am hooked on snowshoeing and can't wait to get out again.

I bought a new pair of MSR-Revo Acent last winter to snowshoe around the Swiss Alps and I must say these are not your grandpa's snowshoes. I truly enjoy the new aggressive design, they bit in and hold on very well on a grade. They are comfortable for hours of shoeing. If you want so good snowshoes that will take you anywhere, I would recommend the MSR-Revo Ascent.

I used and abused my pair of Denali Ascents for 10+ years

I used and abused my pair of Denali Ascents for 10+ years for everything from strolling through the woods to winter mountaineering, so I was a little heartbroken when the crampon finally cracked from fatigue this winter. I decided to take a chance on MSR's latest design and ordered the Revo Ascents. Being a die-hard fan of the Denali Ascents it may take me a while to come around fully, but here are my initial impressions: Bindings: The primary reason I ordered the Ascent model was for this style binding, since I loved it so much on my old pair. The old bindings were simple, unbreakable, and never iced up. The only downside to the old bindings was that at cold temperatures, the straps tended to become difficult to stretch and thus difficult to put on tightly, especially with mittens... MSR has appeared to address this with a softer formulation. The bindings lay almost perfectly flat, making these snowshoes very packable. While it doesn't negatively affect the performance of the snowshoes, the strap retainer clips don't work, so they just seem like a sloppy/silly addition. I've played around with the foot positioning a bit; using the ball of foot indicator on the base of the binding puts my foot to far forward (to my taste), such that the front crampons seem less effective for climbing. If I move my foot too far back in the binding, my heel will occasionally catch on the Televator bar, not a serious problem - but annoying. Consequently, I've had to dial in an ideal positioning for my boots. Traction: The snowshoes are not wanting for more traction. They seem to be more stable in slope-traversing situations than the Denali Ascents, perhaps because there is some flexibility in the crampon of this model. The traction around the edges of the snowshoes is a little more difficult to keep track of than more tightly space traction on other models. Consequently, I was more frequently catching the the snowshoes on ice and obstacles while traveling on tight trails. Overall: The construction appears to be of the quality I expect from MSR. Hopefully I will manage to get as much use out of them as my old snowshoes.
