Still the best free-standing tent on the market

I've owned a Hubba since the model first came out. For ease of set-up and rock solid performance, it can't be beat. Yes, you can get a lighter tent that uses hiking poles, and I have one of those (Dursten X-Mid Pro), but sometimes you are willing to add a few ounces and get the convenience of a free-standing tent that goes up in minutes and can be walked around until you find the perfect place. (I only wish MSR would come out with a Dynemma version).

Hubba Hubba NX

I love this tent, super easy to setup, and plenty of room for me and my pack. The only problem is after years of use, the elastic in the poles has started to dry rot. Is it possible for me to replace the elastic cord in the poles?

Hubba 1 tent

I have had my tent for years. It's lightweight and super easy to assemble. However, I haven't used it for a couple of years and when I took it out, the underside of the fly was all sticky and covered in white flakes, that looked like dandruff. Unfortunately I found out when out on a backpacking trip, as it was starting to rain and leak. Bummer!

Light, easy to pitch, and roomy

Light weight, easy to pitch, roomy. If it came with a footprint, I'd give it 5 stars. I also have the 2-person and have had it for years so I know these tents hold up well. If you break a tent pole, you can call MSR and get a replacement for $5. I replaced a pole and the cord myself using a diagram and a video MSR sent and it was fast and easy.

Outfreakingstanding

Outfreakingstanding little tent!! It's perfect for my needs when I head out into the backcountry. This was a replacement for my last hubba hubba, as I had some screen damage and was hoping to send it in for some maintenance. But it was Memorial Day weekend and I saw the sale and the new updated features, so I jumped on it. Maybe I'm a "Gear Dragon" but then I'm also a Scoutmaster so I'm using my Tent all the time, so a Quality product, with New features and on sale was a no brainer. Thanks for being so dogging good.

Awesome Tent

I've had my tent since 2019 and subsequently had many back packing excursions with it in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. It has been the perfect combination of weight, durability, comfort, size and stability. I would say it is the best all around tent. I did have to replace my shock cord after 4 years which was a little early compared to others I use that are in the mix. It's my go to for most situations!

excellent!

So grateful for the years of service from my Hubba Hubba. From rugged mountains to remote island beach camping, it's been excellent. The fully freestanding element has been wonderful for all sorts of crazy terrain. Going to send her in for some wear repairs, then off to the next adventure.

4 Years of Perfect Use

I've slept in my Hubba 1 for hundreds of nights over my past four years of ownership (back when the fly was a different colour), and it has been excellent. I'm on the market for something bigger now, so I feel compelled to write my extremely positive experience with the Hubba especially when I see other negative reviews. Literally everything has held up perfectly over the years: zippers still work flawlessly, poles have never even hinted at breaking, and the fly doesn't peel over time. It's the best fly-to-body engineering I've ever experienced with a tent, as the fly never contacts the body of the tent at any point (hugely important for the inevitable condensation on the inside of the fly, at least here in the PNW). Super fast to set up, easy to stake out in inclement weather, vertical foot and head ends. I just wish it was longer for us taller people which is why I'm finally moving on... my opinion, if I was 6' or under, I could never imagine a better tent.

Hubba hubba 1 person

It's a great little tent, however it seems to need the 4 corners pegged out, which is a little inconvenient when setting up on hard ground, My older hubba, hubba foot print sat flat which was very convenient. I will try the old set of poles to see if that makes any difference.

I have not use this tent yet, but am replacing my old Hubba that was used extensively until it blow away in a wind storm. Best tent I've had. Perfect for Bikepacking. These are tuff tents and I believe this one is lighter then my 2012 model.

excellent I used it winter camping. The condensation caused lots of ice crystals, but not the fault of the tent. a very good tent It is built to be light, so maybe it shouldn't be a little longer for folks that are 6'+

Go back to the old footprint

I owned an older Hubba NX before I traded it for a 1 person Hilleberg Enna. The Hilleberg was too hard to pitch tightly, and when I saw that the new Hubba Hubba was lighter than the Hilleberg, I decided to give it a try. The new Hubba Hubba is easy to pitch, lightweight and has enough room for me and my gear. The interior pocket layout on the new Hubba Hubba is excellent. It has pockets at either end of the tent, so no matter which way I orient my sleeping bag I have a pocket nearby for small items. The ceiling pockets/gear lofts are a really nice touch, and are a great place to stash small items that I don?t need as frequently. The battery ports in all the pockets are great idea, they let me keep the battery out of the way when I?m using my phone and charging it at the same time. I haven?t used the tent in heavy weather yet, but it looks like it will do just as well as my old Hubba NX, which is saying a fair bit. My one complaint is the footprint. The old footprint was specific to this tent and had metal grommets to insert the pole ends in at each corner. This let you set up just the tent fly and footprint for a quick rain shelter or for super light travel. It also let you set up the tent by erecting the rainfly first, which kept the inner tent dry if you were pitching or taking down the tent in a rainstorm. The new generic design is meant to accommodate all the 1 person tents in MSR?s lineup, and as a result it does not have the grommets, which presumably are spaced differently for different MSR solo tents. This makes it more difficult (if not impossible) to pitch the tent with just the fly and footprint, and more difficult to pitch the tent rainfly first to protect the inner tent from rainstorms. Bring back the old footprint!

Hubba hubba Shelter Mode

I just bought a Hubba hubba tent. But does it have a shelter mode (rainfly + footprint) like the Elixir? I've inquired around. The answer seems to be "no." But ai just want to make sure. Thank you.

Old Hubba HP is holding up well

My decade-plus-old Hubba HP one-person is the best of many tents I've owned. Dimensions are ideal for one, weight is minimal and durability has been excellent. If this newer model is at least its equal, then it is a very good tent indeed.

Solid lightweight tent, would recommend

I used this on the West Coast Trail, and it was a serious upgrade in terms of weight and usability from the Elixir 2 which I still have. I separated the poles from the tent, and packed the tent, fly, and a groundsheet in a 5L dry sack. I would recommend such a configuration to keep things dry. It's also nice to see carbon fibre poles for the frame, which is a significant weight reduction from aluminum poles. My favourite part of this tent was how quick I could set it up and take it down. It never took longer than 15 minutes, and that makes it nice when you have to move from site to site. Furthermore, there is a nice height to is inside, and I found it very easy to maneuver and pack my sleeping gear from inside. The material is certainly thinner than the material used in the Elixir line, and I can see that being an issue if you're rough with it. That being said, I was able to gently shake water off the fly without any issue. It's definitely durable, but I wouldn't be as rough with it as you might be with other tents. I have heard of complaints on the US site from people who got slivers from the poles in their hands. I haven't had that issue, as it looks like MSR is coating the poles with an epoxy or a clear coat which likely negates the issue. But I can see that issue resulting if such a coating wasn't applied to the poles, or if the poles weren't sanded after the filament winding process (which appears to be how they manufacture these poles). That's not to dismiss those complaints, I have had carbon fibre slivers before and they are not fun. I wouldn't let those reviews turn you off from the tent is all I'm getting at. MSR, if you do read this, it looks like you might have solved that issue. On ventilation, It definitely looks less than before, and a single vent is built into the vestibule. That said though, I don't think it's an issue. I had a lot of condensation on the tent, especially the inside of the fly, when temperatures dropped very low, around 2-5C. However, at warmer temperatures with the vent open, the fly was nice and dry on both sides. I think I would have had that condensation at the temperature regardless of the tent I chose, but perhaps it could have been less with a second vent on the other side of fly, at about the same height. Overall, I'm very happy with this tent, and I think MSR did a great job. You might have some extra weight compared to some of the tents which employ hiking poles rather than a dedicated pole system like this one, but it's still a great choice.

MSR Hubba Hubba 1p - used to be my favorite tent

I've been using the MSR Hubba Hubba 1p for maybe 15 years now (used to be called the MSR Hubba). There's lots to love about this tent. The materials are solid, it's completely free-standing, great ventilation (or at least it used to), and it's large enough for my 6'3" body to sleep and to sit up comfortably. There are lighter tents out there, but I've found I prefer a few extra ounces when it gives me peace of mind when on less than ideal terrain and when I'm in the rain. Here's what I don't understand about this latest version. Why did MSR get rid of all the mesh and replace it with nylon, leaving only tiny windows??? The mesh surround is one of my favorite parts. On a clear night, it gives you great visibility. And when the fly is on you get great ventilation. In fact I'm seeing reviews saying that this newer version has some ventilation problems. My first MSR Hubba Hubba 1p finally died and this year I replaced it - but did so only after finding an older version on clearance (the MSR Hubba Hubba NX 1p). My hope is that by the time I need another replacement, that MSR will have returned the Hubba to its original design.
