Great SS pot set!

These cooking pots are great! We have boiled water, cooked vegetables, noodles, and meats in these and had no issues with anything. The 2 sizes are perfect for 2-3 person sized meals. The handle works great and is nice and light! Even though these are stainless steel and have no non-stick coating, we haven't had much trouble with food sticking. We just use a bit of oil. The pots are nice and thin and have not warped from heat at all!

durable and versitile

Perfect for long adventure motorcycle camping trips such as the Idaho BDR when combined with a MSR Pocket Rocket stove. Light weight and very versatile in preparing great meals in the backcountry. Far better than a Jet Boil for less cost. 3 years of hard use and going strong. Should last a lifetime.

Useful and efficient

I have used these for a few decades, and i still find them to be the lightest, most versatile pots for backpacking. I usually take one pot, the lid, and the handle on each trip. The lid works as a frypan.

Will last forever

I've had this set for over 30 years and it's still going strong. It's not the lightest but when cooking for a group it just can't be beat.

Excellent cookware and longevity

I've been using this cookset for over 20 years. We added a couple of plates and bowls, but the design is perfect. Using the lid as both a lid and a frying pan, we have never been unable to cook a perfect meal in field. It cleans up easily, and being stainless steel, if we burn in the pans, it is easily cleaned up.

Prob gonna last a lifetime

This is the only set I own for all my camping needs. Day one I dropped a large pot full of water on the asphalt road while carrying it, there are a few dents now that absolutely do not affect anything. Other than that drop there is no damage from 8 years of use. This is the only light piece of gear I can kick around without worrying. I burned food in it rushing and washed it with sand and rocks - 0 damage. It is light enough for multi-day backpacking trips, but sturdy enough to fight off a bear in a frontcountry site :D. The fact that the handle is completely not a part of the pot is awesome, cuz if I ever lose or brake it I can use pliers or anything else to safely lift it. Another thing I like that I can take only one of the pots on shorter trips and lid works with both. The lid also can be used as frying pan ( not for eggs but I did cook fish in it with no issues). I was looking at other fancy AL and TI sets... but I don't want my food to touch AL ( even if health concerns are totally BS I just don't want to), while Ti has nice properties - it is not suitable for real cooking. This set it so nice that here I am spending 10 min of my life letting strangers know how much I like it :D. The only thing that bothers me is that it is double the price I paid in 2015... this is prob due to the higher cost of everything ( material, shipping, and hopefully MSR employees salaries). Anyway - if you concerned about AL, or don't want to be replacing your AL non stick gear every season and actually do anything besides boiling water - get this set and never look back. MSR also makes larger ( 3 pot, 3 lids set) that will be more suitable for 2+ people groups.

Excellent and reliable forever pot set

Classic & simple pot set perfect for car camping. I?ve had a set of these pots for close to 20 years and recently just purchased a second set for my new camper. They tuck perfectly into my camp kitchen box & can handle cooking almost everything. The lid doubles as a fry pan, though it?s better for things like a quick sauté with lots of oil rather than pancakes (it?s hard to flip & easy to accidentally burn the cakes). These pots clean up easily inside & out, in case you cook over a fire with them. The pot grip is reliable and sturdy, which is great when draining a full pot of pasta?

Lifetime Durability

One of the first things that I bought when I got into backpacking in the 1990s was an Alpine cookset. That pot set has travelled all over the country with me from backcounty canoeing in the Boundary Waters to sea kayaking in the Aleutian Islands. I lost my XPD heat exchanger in the Bering Sea, scorched and warped the pot lid using it as a heat diffuser, and otherwise dented blackened and abused this cookset for nearly thirty years before losing it to theft. I'm back for another. I do use lighter Titan pots for backpacking these days, but if you're looking for a cookset that will never wear out and you don't mind a touch more weight, the Alpine is the way to go. It's perfect for car camping, canoe camping, sea kayaking and any other outdoor activity where you're not looking to shave weight down to the last gram.

8 years, still going strong

I have been using this pot set for eight years! I got it as a wedding gift and absolutely love it. I boil water in it mostly and it is very fast on a whisperlite. Cleanup is easy when making Mac n cheese for my toddler too!

Great Pot Set

Love this set! Great quality/durability at a relatively low weight. I love the size of the set: perfect for my stove and fuel canister all packed nicely into the included carrying case. Would highly recommend!

camp chef delight

I am using the stainless steel MSR Alpine 2 Pot Set on a few different types of cooking surfaces. I cook on a MSR Dragonfly stove, a Titanium wood burning Y6722 stove by Tomshoo with a Bunsen burner screen insert, and a Lodge Sportsman's grill with charcoal. Sometimes I bake with the Backpacker's Pantry Outback Ultralight Oven. Other cooking situations call for the use of the MSR Heat Exchanger. But mostly I cook with the Alpine pot without accessories. I bake cornbread, baked apples, pizza, Thai shrimp pasta, melted snow for water, boiled water for a fresh Maine lobster, and heated oil to make Indian apple stuffed fry bread. I have even used the lid as a skillet for strawberry cream cheese filled crepes. In all of these and other cooking situations I have found the internal cooking surface a good heat conductor with an even internal cooking surface. And the boil time the same compared to other stainless steel pots. The Alpine 2 is durable. I will say using the lid as a cutting surface is not ideal. Your knife will dull quickly and the stainless steel will scratch. This is not a lightweight backpacking pot set. It is great for kayak expeditions, backpacking base camping, car camping, and Bushcrafters. From the Florida sandy beaches to Maine snowfall, this MSR Alpine pot set keeps shining. The person cooking only limits the cooking performance of this pot.

Great pots, super durable. I like the attachment handles on the aluminum pots and wish these had them. A little awkward to pour stuff out, etc. otherwise great stuff.

Still going strong more than 20 years later

I purchased the Alpine 2 pot set around 1996 for a backpacking trip in Olympic National Park. Since then, it has been used regularly for solo and family trips. Even after running over the 1.5L pot with my van when setting up camp in Grand Teton National Park, it still functions well, albeit with dents and dings. We rely on this set for car camping and backpacking for our family of 6, and can cook a full meal over our MSR Whisperlite, our butane stove or our tiny Primus stove.

Great, durable, minimalist

Pots are durable and really all you need. Lid doubles as a plate. Would love to see a way to secure the lid to the pods when packed-up. Therefore only 4/5 stars. But it comes in a mesh bag, so it's not a total yard sale in your backpack.

Best cookset I know of.

By gawoodworker

The Alpine 2 cook set goes backpacking or car camping with me every time I go into the woods. I like it so much I bought a set for each of my sons. Heavily used for the last 18 years, the set meets all of my cooking needs with one exception. I added the Alpine fry pan to each set so I can fry fish, eggs, bacon, you name it without burning. Two years ago I was given a Solo Stove which nests inside the set and seems to be designed to work perfectly with the Alpine 2 cook set. I'm glad MSR conti...
