Great tent for one or two people

Just got back from 5 day 50 mile trip on the John Muir Trail. I am an avid outdoorsman - ski patroller, climber, backpacker, hiker and mountain biker. I am very picky about my gear and this is a great tent! Pros: lightweight, easy set up, 2 vestibules, entrances on sides, high ceiling, great airflow, mosquito netting works great, color coded attachments, footprint fit perfectly and guy lines have reflectors built in which reflect off headlamp at night Cons: Vestibules are different sizes, pole velcro straps take some time to get used to. Both of these are minor issues This is a great tent!

love this tent

What i like about it: 1. lightweight 2. very easy to set up 3. 2 vestibules 4. 2 doors (so everyone can get out without bothering, also if you'll leave the vestibule open, you can admire the sky before sleep), 5. roomy 6. a lot of mesh so there is a very good airflow in summer nights 7. silpoly fly and floor 8. a nice not flashy color What i don't like: 1. Different size of vestibules (not critical, but would be better if both would be large) 2. the velcro straps that attach the fly tot the poles (it's just not that comfortable tot put them on) 3. The fly can touch the inner tent quite easy, so if there is condensation, there is a chance you'll have some on you. We use our trekking poles to make some space between them

Great tent overall, but worried about durability

I've camped in this tent about 10 nights now and really love the layout of it. The 2 vestibules are great for gear storage and the vent at the top helps keep the temps down when its warmer. My biggest complaint at this point is the durability of the mesh. I know this is an ultralight tent so they are likely using the lightest mesh possible, but when a small tree branch other small snag rips into the mesh easily its a real disappointment

Can't expect more for this price...

I am a Norwegian and live in Norway and use this tent in all conditions. Have had this for several years and have little or nothing to complain about. Some people complain about too big a packing bag, but for me it's a big advantage as I can quickly shove it into the bag during heavy rain when I'm packing up to go home. If you want to pack it to a smaller size, use a compression bag instead, and the poles in your backpack, so the package will be very small in the bag. So. what is the problem?

Love this tent!

I was looking for a lightweight backpacking tent, but didn't want to break the bank. After a ton of research, I bought the Tungsten UL2 during Marmot's Memorial Day sale, which allowed me to get both the tent and footprint for under $300. The bag it comes in is ridiculously large, so I repacked it into a 9L Selkirk rolltop, but could probably go down to a 6 or 7L bag even. The full weight (including stakes and footprint) is just under 3 lb. 13 oz. I live in the PNW, so it was important to me that my tent be fully freestanding so I can set it up fly first if it's raining. This is one of the lightest fully freestanding tents in its price range (not counting the cheap foreign knockoffs on Amazon). I've only had it out a few times so far and haven't had the opportunity to test it in rainy or windy conditions, but I already love it! I get claustrophobic in too-small tents, or when the walls narrow too steeply (so their touching you all the time). Thanks to the top crossbar, the walls are nearly vertical, making the tent feel even bigger than it is. It's plenty roomy for one without being overkill. Like most 2P tents though, IMO, it would be a tight squeeze to share with someone sleeping. Despite that, two people can comfortably sit together and eat or play cards if the weather is inclement (my sister and I tested this during a mosquito swarm). I highly recommend!

Good tent but..

I've been using my Tungsten 2UL for three seasons now, mainly for multi day hiking on the west coast. Overall I am really happy with the tent but just wanted to leave a couple improvements for Marmot. One is the foot print is not a perfect rectangle. It's narrower at the "feet" end by a few inches. I can find it frustrating to have to make sure I have the right footprint, tent and fly all facing the right way. For the few ounces, making it a perfect rectangle would ease setup, especially in the dark. Second, a few tie off points at the head and feet end of the fly would be appreciated, especially where I'm hiking in the PNW to keep the rain off the tent. All in all, this is a really good tent. I hope these small changes would make it the absolute best tent on the market.

Tungsten ul2

Great tent. Price was right. The poly fly was the reason i pulledthe trigger along with the weight.

Great backpacking tent

Fantastic tent, easy setup, and its lighter then my old tent. Took it backpacking in Scotland and didn't have any issues. It got pretty windy and the tent held up well. We didn't get any rain while here (surprisingly) so I'll be interested to see how it does with rain in the future

Nice, but large and bulky when packed

The tent is nice in general. Lightweight and seems to be good quality. Although there is one thing that really annoys me: size when packed. When looking for a light tent you are probably looking for an easy tent to carry as weel. And those tent poles are large and not straight. (56 cm is a lot to fit anywhere). And it's also bulky when packed. A better tent bag could help on packing.

Top of the class, and roomier than the rest.

The Tungsten Ultarlight 2P absolutely delivers on all that's promised. Fantastically light, but still holds up against the elements in the warmer months. The footprint and headroom are also bigger then comparible 2P tents, providing a space that is properly comfortable for two people. The only detractor for this tent, is the length of the poles when folded. For an ultralight setup, the pole length still requires a larger pack, and this also limits the tent's utility for activities such as bikepacking.

Great Backpacking Tent

I took this tent on a 2 night backpacking trip in Northern Wisconsin. It is lightweight and easy to set up . I was at a very buggy site and this tent did a good job of keeping them out. It also downpoured for 8 plus hours my first night and the tent didn't leak at all. The bathtub floor was definitely a life saver in keeping me and my gear dry. I would recommend this tent to anyone looking for a spacious lightweight tent for backpacking.

Pretty good

The tent has great space for only one person with a 30 inch wide sleeping pad, a dog, and your gear it's also really quick and easy to setup. The only problems I have with it is that the ventilation isn't great and I woke up with a slight layer of moisture on the inside of the rain fly and where it had dripped on the mesh, there is only one vent and there is no way to access it without having to unzip the main door and reach out and around(a velcro or zipper opening right by the vent would be great, also tie downs on the left and right side to help pull the sides away from the main body would be great. Having a footprint included would be amazing also.

For maximum usable space with minimum weight, the Tungsten UL 2P has poles that are pre-bent to increase interior space, and a full-coverage fly with 2 vestibules.

More space means more comfort, and the Tungsten Ultralight 2-Person Tent delivers without adding extra weight to your pack. Zone pre-bend construction creates vertical walls for plenty of sleeping space and headroom for stretching out. "Easy pitch" clips and poles make it easy to set up quickly.

If a downpour hits, the seam-taped bathtub floor ensures you'll stay dry and resists pooling, and the rain-shield flysheet won't stretch out if it gets wet. Stash your pack, poles, and other gear in the two vestibules and tuck a headlamp into the UV lampshade pocket.
