peter k : Hi This is peter
Between Masao jacket and Kento jacket, which one is better waterproof?
Please let me know.
Regards,JEFF H : I can't tell you about the Kento, but I can tell you this. I got stuck in a monsoon in the White Mountains of NH andmy core stayed dry. I was amazed. Not to mention that the jacket looks awesome - stretchy, good fit, and the double front zips are very helpful. I bought the one in yellow and get a lot of compliments.JONGHO S : Masao is 3L, where Kento is 2.5, which means Masao suppose to be better in waterproof, also possibly means bit heavier to packJONGHO S : Masao is 3L, where Kento is 2.5, which means Masao suppose to be better, also possibly means bit heavier to packKANG Z : Masao jacket better waterprooCHRIS P : I emailed mammut the same question, attached is their response: Hi Chris,
The Masao Jacket is a bit heavier, the outer material is more durable, and while the 10,000mm water column is less than the 20,000mm in the Kento Jacket, it is definitely water tight and breathes very well. The softer feeling of the face fabric is also quite desirable for many folks.
The Kento is excellent as a summer weight rain shell, and it will still be useful for spring and fall activities. It is very light, and packs down very small, making it excellent for stowing in a backpack, “Just in case.”
I wouldn’t say at all that one is better than the other, rather that they are just quite different. Think of the Masao as a shell that will be good for warm to cold weather, and where extra durability is needed, (from a mountain hike in the summer, to skiing the backcountry in February) and the Kento as more of an ultra light rain jacket.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
Best regards,

Mammut Customer ServiceSHIN M : Hello!
I want you a choice of two kinds of Masao Jacket Jacket
I recommend.
Most of all I like durable waterproof jacket can be worn long gotta do! .. But I recommend two kinds. What is the fall jacket suitable for spring kento
And Masao jacket to wear in the winter ... and the two kinds of good quality jacket is very good. If you have any questions please contact us at any time! ..CHRIS U : Pete,
I own a Mammut Masao jacket and regularly stay dry in pouring rain in Western Washington. I haven't had the Kento jacket in my hands, but would venture to say the Masao would be the better choice due to the 3-layer DRYtech Premier fabric. Hope this helps.JUSTIN N : I don't know anything about the kento, but I bought the Masao to replace the arcteryx PAC lite which was a similar jacket. The taped seams are more substantial on the Masao, and the material is thicker and slightly softer. Admittedly the PAC lite is designed as an ultra light shell. I'd recommend it without reservations. Only thing strange is the sleeves are very long.
Hope this helps,
Justin
Shopper : I'm 5'8"/143lb, size M or S ???NICHOLAS P : MBRIAN R : I'd go with a medium. These jackets are form fitting and a small will not be comfortable with anything underneath.MEG M : If it helps I am 6' /165 lbs and bought a Large. (This was about 2 years ago though- so I'm not sure if the cut has changed) The fit is good for me all around- but I would have liked about 1 inch longer in the arms. (i have long arms though) It fits pretty trim. It has been a really good jacket, I'v e used it lots and it still beads water. Fabric is pretty durable.JONATHAN C : Medium for sure. A small would be tight if you had anything else under the shellJUSTIN N : Mammut runs VERY small. Like Patagonia slim fit on steroids small. I'd lean towards medium. On the flip side you probably won't be wearing a ton of layers under it, usually I just have a t shirt or base layer under.
It's a great jacket. The euro zipper takes getting used to. Hood is awesome, I hate hoods that don't adjust properly, this one does.
Good luck.
Justin P : Is this jacket water-proof?MEG M : Yes- I have worn it for a year in some pretty wet conditions including multi day backpacking in rainy west coast and lots of coastal rainy stuff. I am happy with it for sure. The arms on mine would be nicer if they were an inch longer, but my arms are a bit long too. I have a size large and I am 6' 165lbs, everthing else fits great. It is a pretty trim jacket with a hood that fits a helmet but is also good w/o one. The stretch fabric is nice for movement and it's pretty durable. Packability is OK. Breaths great. Solid gear.MIKE T : I only used it for one season so far but don't remember getting wet while skiing in it. I do recommend maybe going 1 size larger than you think. I bought the jacket because I wanted something lightweight. Just wearing a sweater the jacket is pretty tight on me. I ordered a USA large but think the XL would have fit me better. Hope this helps.MICHAEL I : No. It holds up to heavy rain for about 5-10 minutes before you feel the water seeping through. It dries quick, but thats about it.
