Great pack

I received my back on time, and it's in great condition. I haven't used it yet because my trip is later this summer, but I am very happy with my purchase.

Comfort

This backpack is a 10/10 in comfort compared to my 2/10 backpack that I paid less than half for. It doesn't hurt my shoulders, and it feels like I am not wearing a backpack just about.

Got the job done with ease

Pack worked well for a 3 day backpacking trip. The only (small) complaint is there needs to be a divider at the bottom of the main compartment for sleeping bag. Plenty of room for my overpacking! Pack balanced well with weight distributed evenly across hips and shoulders.

Holy $&@% what a difference!

I recently upgraded from my OLD Arc?teryx Bora 80L. Way too much bag for my needs now as I?ve learned what my load out looks like. This bag is more than enough capacity. The pockets are all very well placed and I have a much more comfortable fit with the modern materials in use today. My old pack I?ve had for decades and it was indestructible. This one has a lower base weight, still tough material like the Bora though. Everything goes where I want it to, but I do miss the cinch floor to separate the sleeping bag compartment from the main cargo compartment, I?ve already got some solutions in mind though. The waist belt is like a cloud, but the buckle could be problematic for anyone with a bit of a paunch. Recommend some sort of padded sleeve if your belly is a Dunlop. I?m quite pleased with the load distribution and the load lifting straps up high are amazing. I?m gonna plan some treks with a little bouldering scramble to see how this bag compares to the Bora: that was like scrambling up a mountain with a fridge on my back.

Amazing comfy pack! Well made

Backpacked glacier national park for 3 days, first time backpacking! This pack was comfortable and super well made. Water bottle is a bit hard to get out for pockets if you have loaded outside pockets loaded with stuff, but that is an easy fix with redistribution. Kelty is a great brand!

Good but not perfect

Love the backpack so far! It's my first new pack and the quality is great for the price. Although the opening for the brain is a little small for how big the area inside is. And if you don't have a ultralight sleeping bag it will have a harder time fitting in and out of the bottom flap. Still not a big issue as it's just slightly more effort. All in all it's a great pack for the price and I don't regret it at all.

Comfortable and breathable

I?ve hiked a little over 100 miles with this pack. Once I adjusted the straps just right it was comfortable all day. The positioning of the back mesh. Kept my back nice and cool and comfortable.

Awesome Pack Unless it Rains

I just spent five days hiking the White Mountains and loved using this pack. I was carrying between 40-50 lbs across significantly varying terrain and weather, and this was by far the most comfortable and spacious pack I have used in similar situations. Much more comfortable than anything I used throughout my career in the Army. The only downside was the lack of wet weather protection. I hiked through severe rain for 6+ hours and everything inside the pack would have been drenched if I had not ziplocked everything. If this bag came with an adequate rain cover or was made of water resistant/proof material, I would give it five stars.

Everything I?ve Come to Expect from Kelty

I took this bag out on a four day trip in The Smokys for about 35 miles. Truth be told, I?m always comfort over ?light weight.? So I realize that this isn?t the world?s lightest bag, but it is organizationally brilliant and so comfortable. Love the color. Love the amount of customized fit that you can achieve. It?s great. The only downside is that there isn?t a mesh pocket on the outside of the bag or shock cord.

Very comfortable pack. Used it for a 96hr hike. Plenty of room for gear. Temps dropped on us and I wish I would have gotten the bigger one for colder weather gear. Overall great pack.

Best bang for your buck

I?m new to backpacking, so I?m no expert, but I?m super satisfied with this pack. It displaces weight very evenly and comfortably. The variety of pockets are ideal. The pass through style pockets were a surprise when I first got it but they?re very handy. Lastly I?m a huge fan of the color as well. I even prefer this pack over packs I tried that were twice the price. This thing is awesome.

Very user friendly pack

I like how easy the Coyote is to fit to my body and how well it carries my average loads that weigh up to 35 pounds. The Coyote 65 has all the pockets and access an organizational minded backpacker could want...on top of that, it has a multitude of lasting points for the convenience of stowing things on the outside of the pack I.e. Wet gear. I also like the channels behind the upper side pockets which gives me a place to stow long narrow items like trekking poles and fishing rods. I have only used my new Coyote 65 twice this fall and found it to be very comfortable to carry and easy to load and unload...can't wait to use it again...also, the Lyons blue with its accents is really cool looking. It is one of the most versatile packs I have ever carried.

Very user friendly pack

The Coyote 65 fits me really well has clean lines, has very easy access, and is a pack that is purpose built and has several unique features that are improvements on previous coyotes. I really like the big beefy grab handle it really helps you put the pack on and take it off. I like the large slots behind the appropriately sized side "zippered" pockets. I also enjoy using the side mesh pockets that have solid material bottoms- all of these pockets including the side entry toplid with its useful internal mesh pocket with key clip (for key security) are very handy places to store things you need often as does the large front pocket all of these pockets really help the backpacker organize their load for convenience.. All the straps have plenty of length making them easier to use... The waist belt pockets, one zippered and one mesh, are handy for cell phones, chap stick etc. The shoulder harness fits me well and is super simple (via the Velcro system) to adjust for torso length and comfortably distributes the load on the shoulders (personally, I carry 60% of the weight on my hip and the rest on my shoulders). The hip belt wraps my hip well and is well placed locating it and the lumbar pad on my hip shelf and it stays there while I hike along with my average 35 pound loads. I personally like the quick release buckles on the side compression straps and the sleeping bag compartment straps, it makes them more useful. By the way, kudos for the access to the bottom of the pack/sleeping bag compartment, which adds to the accessibility of the main compartment along with the convenient top access. I find the reservoir sleeve and Velcro hang loop handy. The frame and sheet is very supportive and breathable and adds comfort as does the whole suspension system which includes the load lifters, lower load controls, sternum strap and supportive, easy to adjust, hip belt. I like the color--Lyons blue .... it would be good to include some fitting instructions especially for folks that are new to fitting a pack...I've carried many brands of packs and the Kelty Coyote series is simply one of my favorites.

Good backpack

Although I haven't used this backpack in the field yet, I figured I'd share a couple of thoughts on this. Overall, this is very nice pack. Lots of room and pockets for things. A couple of things I think would be better would be a divider between the sleeping bag compartment and the main compartment. Also, front access to the main compartment would've been nice. One last thing would be a built in rain cover, although a rain cover is available for purchase separately. Overall, I would recommend this product to others. I do like the Kelty name, and durability.

VERY HAPPY back packer:-)

The prior model comfortably carries everything one needs for 4 day / 3 night treks. Indeed, all the weight rests so comfortably on the hips my 40 lb load (20% of my body weight) felt like a pillow. The pack is easy to fit, and adjustment instructions are clear. Once adjusted, it rides steadily on one's back--no swaying or any other movement. This is very comforting on steep traverses, ascents and descents. Water bottles can be easily removed from and returned to the designated pockets. And, the pockets securely hold bottles. I prefer bottles to water bladders. The pack is set up for a bladder. The hip belt pockets are large enough for a compass, whistle, map, cell phone and opera-sized binoculars. The sling pack is GREAT for day hikes. It can hold a jacket, vest, food, cell phone and a couple other small items. The slots between the side pockets and main pack are handy for stowing trekking poles and tent poles. The bottom straps securely held my sleeping pad--so no annoying swaying or butt slapping. In conclusion, this pack exceeds my expectations.

Kelty Backpack - Great price and comfort. Quality is mid range.

I used this pack to hike through Yosemite for 4 days and did around 35 miles. It was very comfortable to wear and I had around a 35 pound load. I liked having all of the pockets available and was easy to get access to everything quickly. The side pockets were easy to carry a Nalgene water bottle and the straps helped to keep it secure. The only disappointing thing to me was that the zipper in the top flap broke the first day of the hike and I couldn?t use that part of the pack. Kelty was great in sending a new pack when I got home but the replacement also had damage and I had to return that one as well. They did end up sending me the latest model 65L pack instead which was very generous. I would say not to buy the newest model as the fit is not as good as the Coyote 65 previous year model and seems to lack the comfort of the previous model. I would probably buy a more expensive pack next time that had a better fit. The newer model did not have all of the easy adjustments as the previous year model did which also led to rating the newer model lower. Overall the previous year model is a great buy for the money. I may have just got unlucky with the zipper breaking.

2 things i don't like about this pack is the zippered side pockets on the sides of the pack are shorter then the ones on my other kelty , and there is no divider between sleeping bag compartment and the rest of the bag , again not like my other kelty !! have used it about 5 times the longest trip so far was 4 days at dolly sods wv and the pack did well on all trips so far

Great pack already used on a 10 day hunt

This pack is awesome! Plenty of storage space, compartments, and room to expand. It is designed to carry a heavy load or run light to run and gun. It has a many features as the more expensive “hunting” packs that cost $200 more. I would buy this pack again!

Comfortable pack with loads of features

After taking this pack on a few 3-5 night backcountry trips I'm in love the comfort and organization. The fit can be dialed in very well day-to-day as your pack size changes and the external pockets / pass-throughs are great. I took away one star because there is an excess of straps that dangle & sway all over; I wish it was a little more streamlined but some modifications fixed that.
