Replaced my 8 year old Garmin 520. Im glad I went for the touch screen option. This is a quality product in typical Garmin fashion. I only wish Garmin would improve the intuitiveness of their products

I bought the E-840 because, after 5+ years, battery time on my beloved E-830 was weakening. If upgrading from the E-830, there IS a learning curve! It seems to remember the censors to which it is paired a bit better than on the 830 (especially the cadence as I use this on two different bikes. However, some NetIQ apps are gone, and the NetIQ "store" is a mess right now. Even if searching for an Edge applet, you will be presented with hundreds of watch faces! The new chip in the 840 is much faster than for the 830, which I appreciate on climbs. The display is also a bit larger - great for those of us in our 70s! Also, navigation prompts appear to come more quickly than before. The annoyances - it beeps for too many reasons, many of which I have yet to determine. After a ride is completed, it takes a LONG time to sync with my phone, even though the display claims it has. Too often when looking at Connect, I have to go back to my Edge and power it on and wait for the upload to complete. What it will sync to is my RideWithGPS library. It copies each ride (aborted or not!) to my RW-GPS library, cluttering it up. (I could probably find a way t stop this, but...) After I complete a ride, things get a bit confusing. I hit the stop button, but rather than showing the default fields for my profile, I get a long list of options, etc. Up in the corner, I see "Save" buttons, which recur as I scroll through the windows. Thing is, I'm never sure if I'm shutting it down in a way that does not destroy my ride data. (Oh yeah - sometmes when it syncs I find the ride was entered ot a time 12 hours previous. It's getting better now... CONCLUSION - if this is your first Edge, or if you are upgrading from a 500 or 150, it is absolutely FABULOUS! If you're upgrading from an 800, you're facing a learning curve and some work. Still, I'm glad I bought the 840!

I am new to Garmin GPS devices + must express my exhaustion of figuring out how to choose preference of functions?.How to input trips from other navigational Apps. If Garmin chooses NOT to include an instructional flowchart of options, setup + use, at least include a hardcopy of a few YouTube info sites. (Regardless, I will be making a trans-America bike ride May 2025 + would not do it without such Garmin technology)

Hopefully I will update. I am pretty sure that eventually I will love it. The learning curve is real. I have spent quite a bit of time with youtube and manuals, but I am still struggling

I bought this a few weeks ago and I can't get it to sync with the heart rate monitor and the cadence only shows sporadically. I love the touch screen, much easier than my 830.

I have had this for about three weeks. The first week it was cold and rainy, but I did my best to read the directions and set it up. I have had a Polar The second week I got on my bike for a short ride to see if it worked as expected. I found I had several questions and called Garmin to get them answered, they answered them well. This week I used it twice after again asking a few questions, it worked as I wanted, and I am now able to change the display while riding and it really works well. So far, I am glad I decided to spend the extra money and get the Garmin It is easy to read for me. I still want to use more of the available features, but it works very well so far. It definitely outperforms the old Polar I had, and a couple of cheaper computers I tried.

Out of the box it is a supercomputer reading the manual and setting it up you have a supercomputer on your handlebars. The 840 can be configured to provide information on everything but the amount of air in your spare tube. The distance, time, splits, incline\decline status, phenomenal battery life, and touchscreen is so far above the rest you are selling yourself short not to use this. The screen is easy to read, and the sun glare is never an issue. It is very feature rich and severe weatherproof.

I have had my 840 for the last month and use it every day. Easy to read, simple to se and I love the touch screen. If you try it, I am sure you will love it, as I do.

Little bit of a learning curve going from wahoo but once I figured it out I've loved it, connects with my wahoo watch for heart rate and battery life is awesome, loaded with features I'm sure I haven't even tapped the surface of yet too.

The Edge 840 is much easier to use. I have not had to call Tech support. When using the Edge 530, I needed to call tech support many times.

Have had for couple weeks, not sure yet have had a couple issues, climb pro stayed on too long, and heart rate would not connect, my 1000 was flawless?

I bought this as an upgrade from my 520 Plus. I've only used it for a few rides but I am very impressed so far. I had the 820 but didn't like it so much because of the lack of buttons. I like that this has both buttons and touch screen. (Most of my rides throughout the year require warm gloves.) Connectivity to my phone and sensors has been smooth. I would recommend this to others.

My first did not accurately measure the number of feet of climbing so the Garmin representative sent me a new one, but it is still registering still too high as compared to Strava and other riders. But the courses I loaded seem to be accurate which is the main reason why I ordered it in the first place. I'm also still having some problems getting the my Varia and 840 Edge to pair at the beginning of the ride. But it has never failed to pair. The notifications by my Varia about traffic is much better with the 840 than my old 530.

I upgraded from the Edge 830 about two weeks ago. Overall, very happy with my decision and the 840 has performed very well. The 840 is the same length a just a bit wider than my 830, I chose the non-solar version since battery life is never an issue for me. There are more side buttons on the 840 so you're not reliant on the touch screen although it does have one. Rain rides will be much less frustrating. The software is much better, new home screen with more info, took a bit to get use to but once you do you'll probably love it. GPS accuracy is better, a few minor glitches on my 79 mile race this weekend but the 840 quickly recovered and "found itself", big improvement over the 830 on the same course. Love having maps for Europe pre-loaded and easily switchable, once again way better than the 830. Numerous new features, look ahead on climbs even without a pre-loaded course, computed power plan for a race or pre-loaded course. The Garmin Connect app + all of my bluetooth devices easily paired with the 840. Basically the 840 addressed all of the issues I had with the 830 and added some really useful software upgrades. If you're looking to upgrade or just getting into racing I would highly recommend this unit.

I've used a Fenix watch for years and this is very nice to see stats while on the bike. I love the tracking, live heart rate, and all other details on the screen. The climb pro works darn good as well.

It tracks my rides and appears to be extremely accurate. I don't use any of the training functions at this time as much of it is new to me. It was easy to pair with my phone and heart rate monitor. That said: the owners manual provided is basically worthless.

I have a Wahoo Elemnt that I like, but purchased the Edge 840 because it has the ability to read my Dexcom glucose monitor. So far I'm not impressed with the Edge. I find the user interface to be clunky and not very intuitive, the touch screen is also problematic. I'm disappointed, compared to the Wahoo the Wahoo wins hands down but I'll keep workting with the Edge because of the interface with my CGM.

So far, the 840 is proving to be an excellent bike computer. Setup using the Garmin Connect app on my phone was a doddle since I just transferred the settings from my 530. The new GUI is a great upgrade and is intuitive to use. I was hesitant about getting a bike computer with a touch screen, but so far the 840's touch screen has been brilliant, working perfectly in the rain. I haven't had to use the navigation features yet, but given how well my 530 navigated, I expect the 840 to work even better.

The Garmin Edge 840 is my first cycling computer. Prior to this I was using Garmin wrist watches. This is so much better and much more capable. I look forward to using more and more of the capabilities of the device.

It takes a bit of muscle memory to operate this unit. I like the features if I could just remember them from the day before use of it! Could be a bit more intuitive, but it's getting the job done!

I was deciding between Edge 540 and 840. I am glad I did the touchscreen update as I was not used to using buttons especially while riding. I am very happy with screen brightness, touch screen sensitivity, and battery life even it is raining and cold in New England. Highly recommended!

I previously owned a Edge 820, the new Edge 840 is so much faster and better when compared to the 820. And battery life is very much improved.
