I?m 63 and been packing since I was a boy. The two finest packs ever were Gregories (and that includes Maddens, Lowes, Kelties, Ospreys, TNF, etc.). Baltoro is also a photo pack supreme, as a large photo insert fits perfectly behind the u-zip and bouyed by the lower-compartment flap. The Sticky back panel holds the hip belt high on your hips without requiring over- tightening. I do miss the bomb-proof gregory packs of yore, but the weight has been halved - a worthy compromise.

To preface, I served as a rifleman in the USMC and humped everywhere with packs with all different types of setups and weights. I was able to determine my ideal pack set-up during my time served. The Baltoro was the first civi pack I've bought and there are no complaints about what it is designed to do. I'm used to modifying my pack and adding/removing storage so not being able to do this was a little buzz kill but the pack is not designed to do this for the purpose of keeping everything light and sustainable for a long multi-day hike. The material is just durable enough to withstand some beating while maintaining its lightweight value. I will say that I chose the wrong size at first and my backpacking trip sucked because the pack was not fit correctly to my body and had to get a smaller size. The downside of not being able to buy in-store. I'm 5'10'' 170-185lbs and a Medium was perfect.

Bought this pack, ultimately, for a thru hike if the AT, PCT, and CDT. Before that, it?s going to broken I on smaller trips, most immediately the 100 Mile Wilderness at the end of May. Love the design of this pack, the fact that it comes with the rain cover and day pack, and how everything is centralized on the pack. Can not wait to hit the trail in less than two months.

I got my Baltimore about five years ago. It?s only been out four times. I?m always over packing so I wanted the option of extra space if I needed it.

What great features this pack has with plenty of room for an extended adventure. Love the pivoting hip belt and ease of shoulder straps. The tucked away rain cover is ready to use in a flash. Trekking poles and sunglass attachments have easy access and the opening and closing of pack is smooth and it comes with a built-in daypack.

I got the Baltoro 85 because my son and I go on a winter hiking trip every year and upgrade a little gear every year and this year went to munising mi in the U.P. and built and stayed in an igloo for 4 days and this bag was a dream to have . I brought about 45 pounds through some crazy icy terrain and never had to stop to adjust anything . The way it moves with you makes it feel like much less weight. I feel like your bag and sleep system are what is going to make or break your experience and this bag was built for adventure. I will definitely be getting another for my son

I bought this bag and have carried seven to fourteen days of stuff around easily. Great access points, and a summit pack integrated as hydration pouch

I took this backpack for my first through hike at Isle Royale NP. I was my most important piece of gear, and it performed magnificently. Not only that, but I was able to pack all my gear with tons of space left over. The weight was well distributed and balanced and the pack was easy to load and remove. All the fittings were durable and strong. At the end of a 44-mile rugged hike, my back was not sore and i slept like a baby. I'm ready to do it all again!

I loaded my new Baltoro 85 w/ 55lbs for a 4 day trip in the Sierras. I immediately was impressed with the balance and comfort on my hips w/ this heavy load. The ability to make the necessary adjustments is effortless and the load actually felt lighter than the overall weight by a significant margin.

I've used this pack for week long backpacking trips and for my main bag to carry ropes, full sets of draws & cams; to the crag. The dispersion of weight is great and the pack has held up for 4 years now. The only gripe I have is the baseweight of the pack is a bit on the heavier side. Other than that I have no compaints.

Wow, huge upgrade for me, thoughtful placement of water bottle holder and sunglasses holder. I like the light weight removable day pack as well. Great fit.

I went on several long hikes. Black Forest, whites, batona, world ends. It?s a very confortable pack, not the lightest. It?s the pickup truck of backpacks. Perfect for me. Thank you Gregory.

This pack is the perfect size- large enough to take on long trips, but light enough to take on shorter ones. The quality of the materials has always been excellent- yet Gregory continues to improve. My last pack lasted me more than 50 trips across many US states, many mountains. I beat it up real good, and am only upgrading because I wanted something bigger than the 65L I had. These packs will last you a lifetime! #sweepstakes

I have not had a chance to hit the trail yet, but used it for business travel. I am a be prepared packer with the willingness to carry the options. I got this size to ensure I can fit my bear canister or winter options and everything else for my typical help my buddy contingency options. When I took my trip loaded full with clothes and back-up gear, I estimate 30-35 pounds, the pack rode well. Once the hip belt cinches, the load locks in and the shoulder harness lightens up. This really lives up to the Gregory philosophy of wear your pack, don't carry it. The silicone grip printed on the lumbar pad really, well, grips-no slipping there-but if your clothes are loose, you may have to adjust for plumbers' crack. I like to have my water bottles accessible on both sides. The stowable water bottle holster is great, I wish it was on both sides. The stretch mesh pocket on the other side will hold a bottle, but it is much more difficult to reach and replace. The lower compression strap has an option to be routed over or through the pocket-something I don't remember seeing in descriptions-and is a good feature. The removable day pack hydration sleeve is ok, but not my style for a day pack. If you are truly an ultralight packer and don't consume a lot of water, it would be a good pairing. I estimate it at 8-10 liters volume. Hipbelt pockets are ok, but could not fit my iPhone with case into the water resistant right pocket unless I crammed and wiggled to the point I wouldn't want to have to retrieve and replace each time I wanted a picture or check information. External pockets are easy to get to and sensibly sized for some organization. Quality seems to meet the typical Gregory high expectations. Definitely a very good pack. Get one if you need volume and weight capacity options.

Just finished 4-day backpacking trip on Colorado Trail. I tried several loaded packs from different top companies. Pack fits great. I love the U-access zipper and pockets. My only dislike is the waist belt pockets are too small. Since they Velcro on and off, I'm hopeful there may be a solution to improve the pocket size. #sweepstakes

For trips when you need pack space there is no equal. The quality is top notch and the suspension carries heavier loads extremely well.

The Pack I?ve been searching for

For the legendary long-distance trails around the world, the all new Baltoro 85 is the ultimate pack. Its adaptive Response A3 suspension features custom-designed reinforcements that allow you to take full advantage of its 85-liter capacity, with a Matrix ventilated back panel that assures comfort in all four seasons.
Response A3 Suspension: Auto Angle Adjust (A3) hipbelts and shoulder harnesses adapt to your unique body geometry for a custom fit every time you shoulder the pack. This patented system allows both harnesses and both hipbelts to rotate independently of each other, delivering a dynamic yet stable ride that adapts to your body's movements over different terrain. Response A3 helps align your center of gravity over your walking path, saving energy you'd otherwise spend on stabilization. That little bit of energy saved adds up with every step, increasing your overall efficiency - and preserving your bliss - as the miles tick by
3D AIR Hipbelts and Shoulder Harnesses: Gregory's PreCurve technology and multi-density LifeSpan EVA foam construction combine to eliminate hotspots and relieve pressure in sensitive areas. The 3D AIR mesh wicks away moisture and distributes it throughout the woven surface, increasing overall comfort and allowing the hipbelts and shoulder harnesses to dry quickly during a well-earned trail break.
Wishbone Frame: A high-strength tubular aluminum frame defines the perimeter of the back panel, channeling the weight of the pack to the center of your lower back and around your hip structure. This design allows your upper body and hips to flex naturally while minimizing side-to-side sway as you hike, saving energy and keeping you more comfortable over longer distances. The frame also features anti-barreling support to prevent the pack from losing its shape and keeps the load close to your center of gravity.
Matrix Ventilated Backpanel: Ventilated structural foam wrapped in breathable mesh provides enhanced moisture management in a low-profile backpanel design. It offers excellent airflow while keeping the pack very close to your back for crucial energy savings while carrying heavier loads.
ComfortGrip: A soft-molded contoured pad ensures the weight of the pack transfers comfortably to your lower back and hips. Silicone grip overlays prevent the pad from slipping, keeping the hipbelt in position on your body's main load-bearing structure.
