I bought a blue pair from a local store that carries Columbia and fell in love with these shorts. They have a nice smooth fit and I like that they come in a choice of 3" or 5" inseams. I prefer the 5". I immediately bought 4 more pair in different colors. The fit is very flattering without bulky pockets, waistband or ties. The shorts do have an internal tie but I find it unnecessary and don't use it. There is some elastic on the sides for some "give" when pulling the shorts on. The rest of the waistband lies flat which makes it look more flattering with form fitting tops. The pockets have zippers and are on the front side of shorts and not at the seam. I like that location in keeping with the smooth fit. My only negative comment is when putting your phone in the pocket it falls to the front. But, it's worth it to not have bulky side seam pockets. I am 5'6" 133lb and purchased a medium.

Not exactly what I was wanting (have an old style), but I liked these. I wear a size 10 and purchased a medium.
