Black Diamond Icon 700 Headlamp

I've used it for the last 6 months on SAR and haven't gotten into my spare batteries yet. I can keep it on a low setting for the most part and see great, but turning it up will give you all the light you'll ever need.

The Icon Headlamp has been my preferred choice to lighting for 3 generations of Black Diamond headlamps. It produces great light where you want it and frees your hands up to hold tools, feed wires, look for stuff in the attic or when the power goes out. Great headlamp. I use it for work on a hardhat with the rechargeable battery option and it lasts a long time and has great light coverage and options. A little heavier than some smaller options maybe but well worth it.

I am in the outdoors a lot. This is my "go to" lamp for all my activities. Lost my previous ICON and bought the latest. The battery indicated is a plus but it took a few tries to get one that did not eat the batteries in 4 days even while not in use. The BD team resolved the issue and all is well. Make sure you check it before a big trip. I rely on this lamp especially ice fishing Lake Superior in the dark and it does not disappoint. Excellent product.

I love this headlamp, but after 5 years of moderate usage, the plastic latching surface on the battery compartment fatigued to the point where the light was no longer reliable. A bump would interrupt the electrical connection and the light would shut off. I love Black Diamond products, but slight changes to the thickness of the plastic could have saved this light from failing. While I wait for a new light I have used four hippies to keep this one in the fight.

I mainly use this headlamp daily to garden/prune in the dark through winter evenings. I'm glad to find a waterproof design for use in the rain here in Oregon. Usually keep it on the brightest setting. I don't like how the light dims to preserve energy when it senses battery level getting low. I can't see well enough on the low setting to continue my work. I get why some ppl might like this feature but it is a hindrance to me. I'd rather there were a different type of warning that does not impede me or an option to turn this feature off. I would also appreciate an improvement on the plastic where the head straps hook on. I find myself having to adjust/tighten the straps daily because they slip a lot. I also bought the Icon Rechargeable Battery which has been great. I was running through batteries every few days with my previous Icon 700's. Overall, I'm happy to have this tool.

I purchased this headlamp to replace my 10 year old Black Diamond Icon headlamp. The old one was 200 lumen. The new one is 700 lumen and has the optional 5,200 milli amp hour rechargeable battery. I really like the headlamp.

I have owned many head lamps and am blown away by the Black Diamond 700. The sophisticated light switches are incredibly useful and easy-to-use. I'll never go hunting or camping without it.

This is the second iteration of this lamp that I have owned and used. I put the Icon to work trail running, cross country skiing, mountain climbing, and camping too. It is super bright when I need it to be. I can change the colors or brightness when I need to. I can make the batteries last forever. It fits nicely on my helmet, but I can wear it comfortably on my head. This new version has an extension cable so that I can drop the battery pack into a pocket. This will be handy on Aconcagua this December.

I used to work with sea turtles in Costa Rica. I bought it for the red, blue and green lights for my work. From the beginning I had problems because the lights didn't work well. When I used blue or green light, they changed themselves or they didn't work at all. I stopped using the Icon700 because one of the wires broke, like old plastic, maybe it didn't have 100h of use. I always thought it was a very good headlamp, powerful, good light... but the lights and the quality of the plastic disappointed me.

Great headlamp. With the extra weight on the back, using it on a helmet is the best option. Overall balanced but heavy and bulky for daily use. Extremely bright and good User interface.

Fantastic piece of hardware, as with all black diamond equipment built to withstand the harshest conditions. Love having a choice of multiple low light colors, sometimes the red is just not quite enough so having blue or green is great. Would recommend this product to any one! Thanks BD

I live in Alaska and this winter was particularly brutal and cold. I used to be locked in watching Netflix and drinking all winter? and then I bought this light. I found all the loose change in my couch with this new found light source. I could afford xc ski's with the change. Using my skis and becoming more active I gave up drinking and started geocaching. I have seen so many parts of my hometown with a new light, pun intended. It has allowed me to romanticize and fall back in love with the outdoors instead of netflix and chillin'. But now that it's summer and sunny all the time it also works as a bottle opener to crush some frosty boys on an evening walk. Still a great investment. I am no longer afraid of the dark or winter.

This light produces a great field of light, and was very useful during early morning walks to the deer stand. Fantastic when field dressing game in low light situations. The fact that it uses regular AA batteries keeps the cost of running this light very low. Item is for beginners and experts alike. I replaced my Cabelas Alaska guidelight with this product after it failed twice and have not looked back

I bought one headlamp and the rechargeable pack as a gift for a friend who helped me out a lot after my wife died. I haven't gotten it to him yet but if I get any feedback, I'd be happy to share it. I used mine the other night under my Seattle sombrero blowing snow during our blizzard here in Madison WI. It worked well, It was comfortable and I could get my hat over it, which was a bonus, considering the conditions. It's a nice piece of equipment.

This is the premier headlamp on the market. I bought my first one for multi-day kayaking expeditions and trail running before daylight. The choice of colors is ideal for maritime use and USCG safety regulations, and the brightest setting is great for spotting or shining for fish, alligators, wildlife to be aware of. I've now purchased my second to use camping, and keep my original in my PFD. The unit holds a charge for hours of continual use. I use rechargeable AAs. A top piece of equipment in my gear bag!

The reliability of a system is determined by its least reliable part - the tiny piece of plastic that secures the top of the battery pack snugly in place. Everything else is great - previous iterations it was the screw cracking the battery box case cover. It's soooo close to perfect - except for that.

I've had this version for a few years- using the rechargeable battery. Love the strobe feature on the lithium battery pack- got that for psyching out mountain lions on nocturnal insertions, mostly for dense forest AT approaches to the high country. That and some bells-- too bad dogs don't ski? The dimmable red LED is awesome for astronomy star-parties. My Icon seemed less and less bright lately and the issue was easily resolved. Somehow, in spite of some dialectic grease in the screw-fit connector between the lamp-head and the battery, there was serious current resistance at the connector. After unscrewing the plug and re-tightening the connector fitting, full blazing brightness is now restored. It had gradually gotten dimmer ofvera long period of time- its dimness had gotten quite pronounced before I decided to look into it.

I have had the older model for years and have been very happy. Simple, bright and durable. I have two of the newer 700s both are very bright and simple to use love the different light settings,but the new battery case is prone to breakage. Both new ones have broken where the cam that locks batteries in battery pack. Had to resort back to using my older model with stretched out elastic but at least it works

My older version of the same headlamp lasted for years and years and finally started giving problems with working intermittently. Black Diamond couldn't repair it but gave me a great deal on the newer, more powerful model, and I couldn't be happier with the product or the service! Great company!
