Amazing gloves! Worth every penny

My second pair. First pair lasted me approx 8 seasons. Only reason I need to repurchase was the inner fur liner was packed out

Remarkably Warm

I ski at one of the coldest mountains in the North East and my fingers are always warm with these gloves. I love them.

Solid

Love these. You do need to stay on top of the water-proofing if you're in the cascades where it likes to hover around 33 degrees, but they're super solid and have a good warmth to weight ratio.

Great balance of dexterity, warmth and robustness

2 years so far on my first pair with 80 days of use, 30 in the back country and 50 at the resort and they are still going strong. The double layer of leather on the finger and thumb are starting to get beat up. But I am a boarder and those areas are constantly being roughed up when ratcheting down my bindings. On single digit days my hands get a little cold, still the warmth to dexterity balance is perfect. They have far exceeded my expectations. I’m guessing they will easily surpass 100 days

Early Impressions

I took the advice of previous reviewers and ordered 1 size larger than the fitting guide suggested and glad that I did. They are large enough but a bit tight in the fingers. When the insulation works in, I believe that they will loosen. I'm unable to comment on warmth since the weather here is warming, maybe next winter will tell.

Warm gloves

Good gloves. Work good when doing rope work. I went a size up and they fit perfectly.

High performing work horse

These gloves hit all the marks. Warm, waterproof and functional. For all day adventures in the cold deep snow that require effective use of your opposable thumbs, this is a winner. One of the best gloves Ive used in 40 years of winter ramblings. Fits true to size, feels a bit tight when you first put it on out of the box, but it stretches out just the right amount. Nailed it Black Diamond!

Not warm enough

I purchased these gloves for ski patrol, they have been fairly durable but not warm enough below minus 15 even with base layer mitts. They are great for warmer weather, but i don't think the minus 12-30 degree description is quite accurate.

Warm and waterproof, wish liner had fingers

Very happy with my Guide Finger Gloves. I bought these to replace regular Guide Gloves, where I lost the liner. I was hoping these had individual fingers in the liner, but they are the same lobster design as the outer shell. Unfortunately, this means the shells aren't interchangeable. It would be good to have that detail in the product description, as it was not clear that the liners are different. Otherwise, these are wonderful gloves, used primarily for ski touring in the Sierra. Old Guide Gloves never failed me, and I expect the same from these.

Top of the line gloves

Loving the warmth of these gloves. The wrist bungee is super nice and holds onto your hand well. The insert is incredibly warm. I just absolutely love having the finger available for some dexterity over a mitten. I usually wear a size 8.5-9 or M in most other gloves and this one fit just the same. Very happy.

So far, their great.

I've got three day trips in the backcountry with these, plus a three-day backcountry ski trip. So far they are just what I was looking for. Durable, warm, and dexterous enough for transitions.

Great, but ... came apart

The gloves are really good. Fit really well and extremely warm. Unfortunately on the third day out the threading on one of the index fingers came undone. And more frustrating couldn't just exchange for another pair had to return and the sale price was no longer available.

Great for winter camping!

I purchased this mitt to use while leading a 10 day winter camping expedition with students. The mitts were the warmest I've ever worn, and kept all of my fingers warm the entire time. The separated finger was useful when tying knots and operating stoves in snowy and blustery, cold conditions. I removed the liners to dig snow shelters in just the shells and they dried extremely well overnight under my sleeping pad. I didn't expect to appreciate the over-sleeve cuff, but it was a great feature for sealing warmth in while taking the gloves on and off for various camp tasks which required more dexterity. Thanks BD!!

Functional and warm

I purchased these finger gloves (we call them lobster mitts) 2 months ago and have used them at least 4 times a week. Had them in -35 C and they still kept my hands warm (as long as I was moving). Great for keeping the snow out when falling in deep, easy to put on and take off, and still functional when on. I can easily adjust boots, bindings, pack, zippers, etc. with these on. I also wear the in temps as high as -5 C and they are still comfortable and easy to thermoregulate. These should be a part of everyone's kit for on, and off, piste.

The perfect mitten/glove!

As a ski patroller, I use this mitten/glove extensively and have found it to be both functional and exceptionally warm. They’ve become my go to item on a regular basis.

best gloves

I recently bought these gloves and they are the warmest winter gloves I own now. The mitt aspect of the gloves keeps the other digits warmer then separated if you ask me but you still need the dexterity.

Outstanding

Bought for Ski Patrol in the Canadian Rockies - where it can go below -35C. Dexterous and hardwearing...but not cheap...

Durable Warm Gloves with some dexterity

I love these gloves. They are warm like mitts yet with the free-finger design which allows simple tasks like pulling zippers or tying knots. Use the included waterproofing on the leather and they'll keep you dry in the wettest of snow.

Kept me little girl fingers warm

I normally get cold very easily (nickname is shaking chihuahua. When watching the weather on a climb in Mexico (Pico de Orizaba), the temps kept getting lower and lower. Before I left, I ordered a pair of the these gloves. I loved them! We woke at 1:00 AM for a 9 hour summit push. My fingers began to sweat a little in the gloves, but never got cold. I opted for the finger gloves in case I needed to slide a hand warmer down in the wider portion. Never needed to. The temps did dip down into the low teens (F). There were a little tough using the ice axe, but I would expect that due to the mitt-like design. I had a pair of the Punisher gloves for the lower portion of the mountain, and those were easier to use with carabiners/ice axes/etc. All in all...awesome glove!

Great gloves

Great gloves. Super warm and also high dexterity. I will use these with an ascender on fixed ropes on an 8,000 meter peak. Also Incredibly well made. Highly recommended vs mitts.

Warmest gloves

This is my second pair, the first lasted at least 10 years. They have developed cold spots from the insulation compressing and wearing. I don’t find this as a fault, they’ve seen a lot of hard use and are still fine for all but the coldest days. That’s why I got the new ones. I think the insulation is improved. I have very cold hands (Reynaud syndrome) and these gloves work!

The best!

The guide series of gloves and mittens is the best I’ve tried. I had the gloves first and purchased these for extremely cold days. They are very warm. The dexterity is good, and the quality is second to none. I would buy them again without hesitation.

Warm , Comfy, Durable, what more do you want

What do you do when you have worn out some of the best guide gloves you have come across? You buy new ones. Some improvements on the new ones is the thumb is now all leather. There is a drawstring to close them off. It also needs to be said that you will need to buy them a size up. I wear a medium and a large is the perfect fit Here is the review for the first pair years ago that still applies: I won't write a review unless I have had a product for a least a year. After four years of these being my primary digit protection for guiding, skiing, snowshoeing they're still going strong. You will need to waterproof these yearly. The double leather reinforced palms and thumb hold up well Also wash the liners regularly because your hands will sweat. The sheep wool in the liners works very well. The removable liners allows you to dry them quickly. I find these much warmer that the Guide Glove that I bought for my son. They are not as bulky as they look. If you buy them large you can fit thin liners inside or hand warmers for those -35° days.

Odd sensation

I don’t know what kind of sorcery you put in these gloves but they make my hands weirdly warm. Like a heater

Only gotten better

This is the second time I have bought this glove. Since I bought it last, they have made some awesome improvements. The wrist drawstring is super easy to use and has a low profile if you want to keep it under your sleeve instead of over. Actually, overall the glove has a lower profile, which is nice, yet it hasn't changed in warmth. I like that they added the pad on the thumb to keep snotsicles from getting too out of control, and they also added an attachment point near the tips for drying out the gloves after a wet day. Used for ice climbing (great for belaying) and splitboarding. Would recommend.

Keeps your hands warm

Used these gloves on a diving exercise in the Canadian Arctic and they worked excellent down to around -40C. I definitely recommend using them with a liner glove. With the liner gloves my hands were warm, even down to temperatures of -66C after the wind-chill. The only time my hands got cold was when travelling on the snowmobile. Despite being wet some of the time due to ocean water and sweat, they still performed to my expectations and above their rating. The only complaint I have is in the amount of insulation on the bottom side of the palms and fingers, hence the need for a liner glove.

Awesome Mittens!

I originally purchased extra large mittens. They were returned for large size. The mittens fit well. The insulation is warm and stays in place. The use of your first finger in each mitten adds dexterity and makes it easier to tighten ratchets on snowboard bindings, among other things. These mittens are now my "go-to" mittens of choice. Thanks Black Diamond for making excellent quality, high performing mittens!

Excellent, maybe the best warm glothere

I have problems with cold fingers so did some research on these BD gloves and the comparable Hestra army gortex. I actually bought both to compare. This BD is much warmer. I skied this weekend in 30degree and my fingers were sweating. I like the pull out gortex insert as well. The Hestra does not have that. For 0 or below, I bought ibex merino wool inserts which fit fine inside this. I also thought the index finger and thumb functioned well, not stiff. The size runs slightly large but not bad Eg I bought same size in this BD as my prior Gordini gloves.

Too Tight

Looking for a very warm glove with more dexterity than my mittens. I have a five finger BD glove that I love. Anyway, this Guide Finger Glove was way too bulky inside and tight, in spite of the size XL. I could not move my fingers well at all. My mittens are much more comfortable and very warm, so I returned these.
