I have been looking for a pack that not only provides both storage but comfort and I think I found it. Living in both a city environment and nomadic I?ve needed to minimize the number of backpacks I own. I enjoy both running long distance in the city, trail running, and hiking north of the city. This backpack accomplishes both. It?s comfortable and form fitted, reducing annoying movement. But, also has plenty of storage for gear when necessary. I?ve used it for a half marathon in Toronto, and several trips along the Bruce peninsula. From day trips to overnights, this bag is worth every penny and is serving my needs perfectly.

I originally picked this bag up for some 14er runs and hikes in Colorado. I was impressed with how much gear can fit in the bag, but also how snug I can make it when it's not completely full. I do like that it's not super stretchy (there is horizonal stretch in the ribcage) but the bag and shoulder harnesses do not stretch. This helps really keep down on the bounce when running with a heavier pack. A couple times I had this filled with a 2L hydration pack, food, weather gear and another bottle on the front. I think total weight was close 11 lbs (5kg) and it felt ok while running (for a bag with no hip support). I do wish the cinch straps on the side of the bag were more stretchy. I would have liked to use them to store a jacket or flipflops, but could only get smaller stuff under them. The "pole slots" on either side of the bag are good for initial trekking pole storage but as others have pointed out, it's easy to get the poles out but not very easy to put them back without taking the bag off. I was able to leash the poles horizontally across my chest to the front loops with an extra bit of bungee loop (not included). The "pole holders" in the bag can also fit a full smart water bottle, if you don't want it on the pocket in the front. The inside sleeve for a hydration bladder is big enough to fit a 12in iPad, just barely. One added feature of the ice-axe loops / attachment points - The metal retainers hidden in the bottom of the bag fit the heel loops of my shoes perfectly leaving an easy place to carry muddy trail shoes. The outer cover is definitely "water resistant" and kept the light rains out of the pack mostly. I'm not sure how well it'd hold up in a complete drenching with the top flap arrangement, but I usually pack gear in ziplock bags or smaller containers for organization (particularly for a pack like this with one main compartment). The front pockets are a little smaller than other running vests I've tried, but they are still big enough to hold a SmartWater bottle or an iPhone quite easily. Even the zippered sections are stretchy and have ample room to store essentials. Overall, I'm very pleased with this pack. It has quickly become my go-to bag as a carry-on for flights and everyday running around. Really the only thing I'd change is elasticity of the cinch straps on the sides of the bag. Great product, highly recommend.

I'm not an ultra-marathon runner, multi-peak climber, but I like living life unfettered. When I travel, either pounding familiar pavement in Vancouver on my bike , or through the small unfamiliar but welcome hamlets in Japan or Vietnam, I want to be in the moment, and not concerned with niggles like a bag that's too heavy, or uncomfortable. This backpack stays close to me and my philosophy. It's pretty perfect. When it's empty, it weighs as much as a can of drink and feels like a light vest. Without any complaint, it takes up anything I might need to have on hand (jacket, umbrella, water, snacks, book, electronics) and makes available immediately my holy trifecta -- keys, wallet, phone. It's still a novelty to me, and I wonder how long the stretchy fabric will last, but I guess we'll see. I'm optimistic. Here's looking forward to a beautiful new friendship. Just the right size for day trips with the kids and fast and light for longer, faster excursions. Great access to the necessities on the front and enough space for everything else in the back. Back also cinches down nicely if you don't need all the space. Can't beat the fit and smooth ride when it gets spicy!

The first thing I did with it was a 40k mountain trail run. It worked great. Do yourself a favour and also buy the Distance Carbon Z poles to go with it.

This pack has an amazing built quality. Very comfortable and with many options to adjust the fit. The pole sleeves on the sides are great, however it might be tricky to get the poles in while wearing the pack. It would be great if BD could include the soft flasks. I am very happy with this purchase and can recommend it to enyone.

I am 6'2" and 200 pounds and the size large fits me perfectly. This pack is simply amazing for 8 to 10 hour scrambles in the Pacific Northwest. Let me explain why. Fifteen litres is the ideal size for a day hike with food, water and some warm layers. And the hiking poles and the ice axes fit snug. The pack is super comfortable - no need for a waist belt as this hugs the body super well. The pack doesn't shift around on class four scrambles nor when running. The material is super abrasion resistant for those chimney climbs. And lastly, it is pretty darn waterproof - which is mandatory for any mountain climbs in British Columbia. One of the best thought out pieces I have ever used.

I purchased this to use on a Grand Canyon Rim2Rim2Rim trip. I'm 5'9" and 145 lbs and the small/ medium fit great. Pack was comfortable, easy to get stuff in and out of and seems durable for its weight. Great for longer voyages. For shorter trips, I'll use a 6 liter pack instead.

I sold my other day packs after I got this. I went from having a trail running pack, day hike pack, and a mountain biking pack to ONE bag that did it all better than all the other ones ever had. In addition to being able to grow with the activity as I need it to, it also holds a bear spray and my phone, a snack, and so much more in the chest strap pockets! This needs to be on everyone?s wishlist if they don?t already have one.

I love everything about the backpack. It?s light and durable. It?s spacious and compact. I find that the straps don?t bother me at all. This is a well designed backpack. I don?t actually trail run with it. Not that I wouldn?t, but this capacity is too much for my kind of trail running trips. I have traveled internationally for months at a time using only this pack. I love to travel, but don?t like hauling luggage around. This is ticket for me. I would love a slightly larger bag, like an 18L. I know the way I use it is unusual, but I think more people would consider using it for that purpose if there was a little higher capacity.

I have been a huge fan of several other brands running vests for years. Owning more than I can count for various niche purposes such as ultra lightweight, maximum storage or water resistant for photography gear. The BD Distance hands down beats all others in the way it combines all of the features I am looking for in a running vest.

I bought three different vests to test prior to the train-up for the Leadville 100. Even though this vest was the most expensive, I found it to be the most comfortable. My phone, 500ml hydraflasks (sold separately), nutrition, and trek poles all fit great and comfortably. No rubbing around my neck or other rub spots after a 5 mile run and then a 13.1 mile run. Big fan of this vest.

I wanted a trail running bag for long distance in the mountain and it do that and more. The bag fit great and I use it for all my run, even the short one when I just carry a water bottle, the main section of the bag compress great when empty. I'm looking forward for using it for my summer scramble. The 15l are spacious enough for carrying all the gears I need during a summer scramble. I recently try it on a fat bike tour and It was awesome for biking. you quickly forget that you are wearing it and I will definitely reach for that bag when I will do longer day on the bike this summer. overall, it's a great bag!

Was perfect for a bid at the Full Exum route on the Grand. Held water, layers and possibilities bag. Also held the rack. Rope was coiled and carried. Great fit. Definitely try them on to dial in your size. Has held up well.

I'm 5'6 and 135 with not much of a chest. I got the XS and it's perfect! Room to cinch or uncinch. I have a competitors womens vest and had the trail vest/pack they do. The issues I had with the trail vest were solved by this bag completely (and by my dog chewing the zip so I had to replace itand I feel like the fit is more comfortable than the race vest! The zip pockets don't quite fit my iphone 7 with its low pro otter case on. It doesn't bother me but if that was important to you you'd prob want to know. The lower pockets work fine for that though. The material seems super durable, the rigidity of the back of the pack adds huge comfort and versatility, especially when I load it up for the long, heavy run to work each day. The cinch straps on the side are great, the colour of the bike is wicked for seeing what's in there, the pole pockets are awesome, although i rarely use poles for running, it just adds to the versatility. On which point, ice axe ports. Finally!!! I was stoked to see this on the bag. I used to use a competitors trail vest for multi-pitch ice routes and was always faffing about to get the axes in a good spot for long approaches, or a place to stow one when in between pitches etc. This pack totally owns. So far I've used it MTBing, multi-pitch ice and rock climbing, x-country and backcountry skiing, running to work and epic day runs and walking the kid and the dog. Best bit of kit.

I've got 75 miles on this pack so far and I love it. Lightweight, vest harness is amazing eep s the pack close to your body and the pack doesn't bounce around whether its stuffed with 12 lbs of gear or just with an extra layer and a sandwich. Great pockets on vest harness that fit smart water bottles. Side pockets on pack are for hiking poles but I stuff mine with snacks and extra water bottles. This has become my goto pack for daily hikes and just long walks where I want an extra layer of clothes, water and snacks for when i just get lost in moment and forget to stop walking lol. I wish Black Diamond would make a 20-22L version of this pack with bigger side water bottle pockets for over night trips.

After years of looking for a running pack, I'm happy to have found the Distance 15. This pack is light, comfortable, and capable. When loaded, the wide shoulder straps distribute the weight so the straps don't dig. There's minimal bounce when running. The materials have held up well so far. I would buy this pack again.

BD consistently pushes the envelope to enable us to explore deeper and deeper, with confidence. This pack is a prime expression of that. You can tell that beyond the technical aspects of this piece, there was love put into making something that stands on its own in the market. I was weary of buying a $150 pack 'just for running' but there's so much to appreciate with this. Versatility is unmatched. I envision it getting more use than maybe any other pack in my growing quiver -- phasing out a few older packs that have served their purpose but are ready for retirement. I expect to get a decade of use out of this. will report back in 2030.
