Review Summary

I have to preface that I may have just gotten an old bag- when it arrived from the resaler (Ultralight Olllutdoor UK) it didn't exactly exude the loft afforded to it by the reviews and so forth. It lasted me well on a month long backpacking trip in summer. Warm enough and very packable and light. Would I use it again? Entirely certain I would. That being said, it doesn't last long in storage. Whilst waiting for the next summer (now) for around eight months, it lost all its loft. It's been stored in a dry box uncompressed with silica to absorb moisture, so I'm unsure about why it lost its puff- not happened to me before, not with down or synthetic, and it's refusing to show me any consideration and loft up again for me (my arms are honestly exhausted after two days of fluffing and beating it!) Anyway, great bag, but be careful about storing it. It'll handle water and wind like a champ in the field but it won't be happy being kept in storage.

First, let me start off by saying this is personal preference review and not a negative one. There?s only one true flaw. I went back and forth on a bag vs quilt for a while, I wanted something small and lightweight. Obviously, I landed on a bag. I?ve had this for two years now and have used it several times. The bag itself is super light, packs quite small, and has a great look to it. I went purple. I?m familiar with the synergy straps, as my first Thermarest was the Antares 20, ~8 years ago. These however basically ripped off first use, not overly concerned i continued my trip. By day two, they were completely frayed and torn apart. I know I move in my sleep, but I don?t think I sleep like a monster! It is what it is? I still use the bag, actually I just used it for week long car camping trip. My biggest gripe with it. And again, this is purely personal preference. Is the zipper doesn?t go past your knee, understanding we?re saving weight but it?s a flaw imo. It?s frustratingly annoying when you want to kick your feet out and can?t. The rest of the bag??. It?s a good bag. Like I said, it?s light, packable, looks good, pretty comfortable but I chose the wrong sleeping bag for myself. That?s all! I recommend this bag, but I really recommend the brand. The whole brand of Cascade. Not the best review, but maybe it helps.

Packs down and performs well in wet environments I took it on a 5 day backpacking trip in NH and it was awesome!

This is the perfect bag for an overnight or an extended weekend trip. Fits nicely with plenty of room. Compresses surprisingly well. Great choice.

Really light and packs down quite small. Fits my NeoAir XLite sleeping pad perfectly. I didn't try it in really cold weather, but it was fine for temperatures in the 50's and 60's. I would have preferred a bag without the hood, but overall am really pleased with it.

It was an excellent lightweight sleeping bag and I use it for long distance backpacking travel. Had a comfort night sleep at temperature of 3 Celsius in Winter. I was just a little bit disappointed because the Synergy Link connectors doesn't fit to my "Trail scout" sleeping pad that's it all.

I have used this bag a few times and have been pleased. I think it is a great start for layering with other liners or camping blankets to push against colder conditions. Which is where most of the stars come from. The materials are so thin I am concerned about durability. Though in the few times I've used it there has been no issues. It is staggeringly light. I wish the zipper was a little longer and that the loops for the pad were a touch wider.

Probably great for most people, I am always cold. Thought I would try it. Turned out that a 50degree night required me to wrap up in another sleeping bag over this one. Works more like a sheet on a warm night...which is what it's intended for. I returned it for a warmer bag. I would buy it again if I was in a warmer climate.

The Thermarest Space Cowboy 45 is a good summer backpacking sleeping bag. It's small size and light weight make it easy to carry. It's a synthetic-fill, ultralight sleeping bag designed for summer use. The list price for the bag ranges from $129.95 to $149.95 depending on the size. The manufacturer says the bag weighs 1 pound, 4 ounces and packs down to just a little larger than an insulated liter water bottle. When I weighed it at home in the stuffsack I found it weighed 1 pound, 7 ounces. That leaves plenty of room in your pack for other gear or lightens your overall load. As an ultralight backpacker, I'm used to sub-3-pound bags, but this one packs down pretty small. In keeping with the space theme, the bags colors are "ether" (light blue) and "galactic" (purple). I tested the galactic version of the bag. One of the first things I noticed about this sleeping bag was the presence of a draft tube, which many manufacturers remove in their quest to save weight, though there is no draft collar. You control heat loss by opening or closing the drawstring on the opening. Also, there's a plastic snap to secure the side zipper. I prefer this to the Velcro closures on other sleeping bags as the Velcro gets caught on hair and clothing. The eraLoft synthetic insulation seems thinner than that in other 45-degree bags I own. The bag uses zoned insulation, putting more of it around the torso and less around the legs. I was a little concerned as I first examined how thin the bag was, but this one seemed better made than others I have encountered. I was pleased by the quilted design, which keeps insulation where you want it. Maybe it was just the draft tube, but it still felt warmer than those other 45-degree ultralight bags. That said, the insulation appears that it may bunch up with continued use. We'll see. The material is durable. I'm not worried about its tearing. A feature I haven't experienced with other bags is the Synergylink connectors designed to keep the Space Cowboy a

This sleeping bag is crazy light, packs down incredibly small (I used a 5L compression bag), and is perfect for warm summer adventures. On the coast in summer with fluctuating night time temperatures, it was a bit too light and chilly, and I paired it with the Argo blanket and a higher R-rated sleeping pad. To be expected. A liner would also be a good addition to this setup. The material inside the sleeping bag is soft to touch and makes for a comfortable sleep. The price is very reasonable.

I just got this bag and feels very comfy when I did initial setup to make sure there are no defects but my synergy clip seam fell apart when I was trying to attach it. Besides that issue everything else is great. Just hope I can get this minor issue fixed before the boundary waters

The bag is very silky and comfortable. Has the potential to pack down and comes with a small pack bag for backpacking and a large bag for storage. The bands fit around my polite apex perfectly.

Admittedly, I'm a huge fan of Therm-a-rest's gear. When my wife and I were looking for a new sleeping bags a few years ago we settled on the Antares and Mira respectively and have really loved them. Everything from the synergy straps to the zoned insulation, they're really well thought out. But in the summer months here in Minnesota we found them to be a little too warm. I've had some luck with the camp quilts but when I saw the Space Cowboy it looked absolutely perfect. I've had it for a few weeks now and here's some thoughts; while I was skeptical of the removable synergy straps at first, I found them really helpful when using it for crashing on a friend's couch. The bag itself is roomy and comfortable. When I first crawled in it I wasn't sure if the insulation would be enough (though it does have loops on the outside to attach an extra quilt if not) but was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it warmed up without causing me to overheat. I love how small it packs down. The material is soft and feels really nice, as opposed to some of the other bags. Plus it was easy on the wallet. No doubts this is going to be my go-to bag for Jun-Aug camping.

I recently have done some travel and couch surfing where this packed right down and kept me warm and cozy no matter where I ended up. I am a warm sleeper and this is just the right weight. Its small size gives me plenty of room for anything else in my backpack and for the price it is a steal.

For warmer temps, this bag is nearly unbeatable. From a quick overnight summer bikepacking trip to sleeping on a questionable mattress in a hut, this thing is great. It's super packable for a synthetic, and it's efficiently warm without being too trim. If it dips closer to freezing, I can always supplement it with a quilt or a down jacket. The name and the purple color always put a smile on my face too. Can't go wrong for the price, you won't be disappointed.

I took the Space Cowboy on my first overnight bikepacking trip. Pack space is more limited than I'm used to on backpacking trips, so I needed a sleeping bag that can pack down extra small. This bag hardly took up any space in my pack, and I could have gotten it even smaller with a compression sack. We were cowboy camping on the coast, so the synthetic fill was a good choice for the conditions. Overall, this bag is a great addition to my sleep system for trips where I don't need a bulky sleeping bag that's too warm for my needs.
