I purchased the Talon 22 while on a hiking trip in Vermont. I hike every weekend for on average 5 miles per hike and have been do so for 4 years. After a few weeks I realized I had extreme lower back pain, so I stopped hiking with this backpack and switched to a traditional backpack I purchased from Eddie Bauer when I started backpacking. After a few weeks, the pain subsided and I went back to the Osprey. I really like the design and the concept of taking the weight off of my shoulders and bringing to my waist/hip was very appealing. After a few more weeks, the pain came back and in a month I had to stop hiking for a week as the pain was so bad. It was the first week in over 200 that I had to stop. I reached out to Osprey knowing they had a quality warranty, but not sure about something like my issue. I have not heard back from Osprey for about a week now. I'll reach out again in a few days if they don't respond.

I originally didn't review the pack at 5 stars because the hydration sleeve wasn't as large as the previous model. But after using this pack on several hikes it has become a favorite. It's comfortable and fits well. This is an updated and modified review.

Should be more comfortable, but works.

The sleeve for the bladder/reservoir is all but useless. It is impossible to fill the bladder and then get it into the sleeve. I am using an Osprey 2L reservoir. If I had known this issue when I bought the pack I would not have bothered. But my larger Osprey pack is a winner, so I thought this would be as well thought out. It is not well thought out.

I bought this pack because everyone raved about it. It seems well built and minimalist. I really like the fact that you can stow/retrieve trekking poles on the go without having to be a contortionist. On the negative side, the water bladder compartment seems to be an afterthought. It is quite narrow at the top and there isn't enough room to really get your hand and a full bladder in comfortably. You need to rely on gravity to get it in a long with some shaking. Lastly, I'm concerned that the hip belt may be too short if you are wearing winter clothing. I compared it to the belts on a Kelty and a Camelbak , and it is shorter.

My wife gave me this pack as a gift. I had the same style but older version for several years. It was perfect for the type of hiking we do. The new version is smaller and does not offer the same amount of room especially in the hydration sleeve. The new version is light and comfortable but you definitely have to rethink how you carry water. The outside pouch is smaller on the new version compared to the older one. I will still use this pack but it's not as versatile as the previous version.

We have used our Talon 22s for about a decade and decided to update this year. The backpack is nice, comfortable, but we take issue with a few of the changes. The back panel pocket for a water bladder is so tight that it is nearly impossible to get a full bladder into the full backpack. This seems like an engineering failure. Both the new Talon 22 and 26 are sized this way. It is impractical to think we would unpack every day to get the full bladder in the pocket, or schlep the full backpack to the sink to fill the bladder and risk getting the contents wet. Our old Talon 22s bladder pocket was sized large enough that we could get an average sized pair of snorkeling fins in the pocket for beach adventures. The larger pocket is better for the various uses we put these backpacks through. My other gripe is the quick stow and go pole strap is annoying and rubs my arm when not in use and the stretchy nonzipped rear most pocket seems to have shrunk. A good backpack, but sometimes features don't need changing.

I bought this online during a sale just before the Pandemic hit. Finally getting around to reviewing this as I found it hidden away in the garage. Needed a good pack for short trips into the mountains when I go hiking. Finding information based on proper sizing was impossible. The pack was listed as M/L. According to the size chart this was supposed to fit me. I am about 6'1. This pack fits like a childs backpack. Wasnt ableto return it due to the fact it was a sale item. Havent decided whether I will sell it or give it away. I do not understand why companies have such bizarre sizing all the time.
