Great pack for the money!

Great pack. Only thing I was wanting was the top to convert to a day pack. Otherwise the AG option is great because it gives more even support to carry the load.

No Complaints

Great pack! I have an earlier model of the Atmos (before AG), and I liked it a lot. There's not much comparison to the newest version of this pack! It is the most comfortable pack I have, and I have 5 Ospreys altogether! That make me a 'company man'? So be it! I like the build quality and the comfort of all of them (especially the Atmos), and if I need to, will come back for more! Great packs!

Pros and cons

Cons are hip pocket design - its a major wrestling match to unzip without two hands and since I can't reach with both hands, they are useless for immediate access like phone or trail mix. So frustrating. I literally hung another small zipper bag on the hip belt so I can access phone and snacks. Add that to the difficulty reaching the side water bottle mesh pockets and it makes me want to return the pack and find something else. All the pros mentioned in other reviews are solid and excellent. I'm just overwhelmed with these two frustrations.

Awesome backpack!!

Just completed 173 miles on the John Muir Trail with 2 resupplies. Heaviest load was 38 lbs. This bag made that weight easy to carry and painless. With no "distractions" I was able to focus on hiking and enjoy the trail. This bag is very adjustable and I was able to really dial in the fit to deal with carrying a full BV 500 vertically. Once everything was snugged and compressed the weight literally disappeared. It was so comfortable I didn't need to remove the pack at short breaks. My base weight was 25lbs. I carried 2 liters of water and the bear can. The pack has great pockets and makes organizing your gear simple. Everything needed was always with in reach. We had numerous rain storms come through and the mesh pocket was large enough for a rain top and bottom. Side pockets easy hold 1 liter water bottles. The front pockets under the mesh pockets are very useful and a great place to store items you need daily without going into the pack's main compartment. The brain is awesome with two compartments allowing you to keep organized. The bag is solid. Nothing broke or failed. Solid buckles, clips and straps. The complaints about the waist belt being too snug? C'mon. The waist belt is the best feature. Once you are dialed in, it is literally not noticeable. If you are worried about the weight of the bag, don't. It's worth every once! I told my "tramily" it's the Cadillac of backpacks! If you going out for 3-9 days this is the bag you need.

Great pack for long adventures!

We have always been a fan of ospreys backpacks. We Decided to buy new ones for 2020 for our 60 mile hike in Colorado. This backpack is comfortable even when we had a lot of weight in it. I was very pleasantly surprised the BV 500 beer can could fit inside the pack multiple ways with all the rest of my gear. Thank you #Eakinsoutdooradventures

The Perfected Pack ?

I now have 5 Osprey packs. 2 of which are the AG style. I waited and saved for My latest 1 the Atmos 65. It is even better than I expected ! My favorite features are the suspension system which makes 46 lbs feel like 25, The 2 side pockets are sooo massive they fit my complete tent and sleep system, the hip pockets are large enough for snacks, phone, monocular, garmin and more., I also like the removable top sack that only goes with Me as needed. This cuts down on weight and size for just a weekender. The only cons of the bag is the hip pocket design which makes the zippers hard to re close when on the move, and the bag doesn't come with a rain sack. That's not bad really just nit pic. I'll give it a 9+ Southern Colorado Ron

Atmos AG 65 - Buy one

SunnySports was awesome. The pack is awesome. Great price. Super nice staff. Thanks Leo. This pack is exactly what I was looking for and these guys were great to deal with and the delivery was very quick. I highly recommend both. Key factors on the pack: ventilation is superb; the trampoline mesh hugs you making the fit comfortable but also helps to keep the weight close to your center of balance so you can move with more agility; adjustability is excellent - you can really tweak the fit; the water bottle holder works great with my canteen - I can actually get it in and out without taking off the pack and it does not poke me in the back; lots of space; and the two big pockets on the front of the pack are spacious and convenient so you don't have to dig around in the main compartment for things you use more frequently.

Best pack ever!

I have had this pack for 3 years now. Didn't think it was right to write a review before putting it through the test. Been on multiple different backpacking adventures with my wife, kids and friends on the AT. This pack has preformed excellent. All of my stuff fits perfect, plus my kids when their stuff get "heavy". The pockets are laid out great. The AG system is so comfortable. Sometime I forget I even have a pack on. I will never move away from this system. It's absolutely the best!

A Bit Disappointing

I am a long-time Osprey user and have always loved the balance of weight, useful features, and load carrying capabilities. The Exos 38 was a standout performer on two Camino pilgrimages. I purchased the Atmos 65 for walking the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland and sadly the pack has been a big disappointment. The disappointment might be largely based on my personal fit, but there are also some unexpectedly frustrating design issues. First, the hip belt pockets are a touch too wide which interferes with arm swing. The pockets are also useless while on the move. You can't open the zippers without taking off the pack, the zippers simply bind up without one hand on the pocket and one hand on the zipper. Second, the shoulder straps are placed too close together which means chafing of the neck is a concern. Lastly, while the hip belt is great at transferring weight it is very annoying when it comes to putting on the pack. The two wings of the hip belt are extremely stiff and under tension which causes them to fold in close to the pack's centerline. Putting on the pack requires you maintain pressure on each wing to keep them folded outwards. Sounds easy until you are balancing a good sized load then it becomes surprisingly difficult. On the plus side, the load carrying capabilities of the pack are up to Osprey's high standards of efficiency. Durability seems excellent and the belts and zipper pulls are first rate. The pack is no lightweight wonder, but the pack weight is acceptable when balanced against its load carrying abilities.

Belt issues

Love the pack for its size and overall comfort. I use it for section hiking. I bought it to do the Comio De Santiago de Compostella. I bought a large pack for my height. The problem is that I am not a heavy set person and after a week had lost weight. I could no longer get the belt tight enough. Did a few adjustments and got it to work the balance of the trip. But it is an issue. I have adjusted the pack as small as I can and it does work for short hikes. I would warn others that if you are on the border it may be better to be on the lower side because the belt size increases with the overall pack size.

Form Fitting-

I love this pack. If fits me so well and keeps my back dry. I can carry more weight comfortably than with my other packs. Over all great. - However to be perfect, the hip pockets should be either a bit more elastic or baggy. When on there is very little space in them. (While off there is more room but as soon as I put it on I can't access those pockets very well because they are too tight.)

Great long haul pack

Did a 12 day hike with my 16 year old son in the Mountains of New Mexico. We both had Atmos 65's and they carried everything we needed. I'm the stronger of us and I'd load mine with up to 70lbs and it was still very comfortable! This thing has tons of adjustability so you can find a comfortable fit easily and its got great storage options as well! Very good pack! My one "wish" was that it had a few more attachment loops (daisy loops) on the exterior so that I could attach carabiners for stuff that doesn't need to be inside the pack. Not a huge deal, but that would be nice.

Perfect for multi-day hikes!

This pack replaces much older Lowe and Kelty backpacks so, although this is not a light pack by today's standards, it's still lighter than I am used to. Plus, the antigravity system does a remarkable job! Just enough pockets, and great organization of them, to be extremely useful. Not overdone. I just used mine for the first time on a four-day, three-night, backpacking trip in the Dix range of the Adirondacks. Loaded pack with food for 4 days, all gear, and 3 liter full water reservoir was right at 40 pounds. Pack easily handled that weight, and I'm sure another 10 lb would be no trouble. Again, we are talking about the pack, not my legs! Not quite as simple putting loaded pack on, because the waist belt needs to be pried apart to get around your hips. Once on, however, that waist belt grabs you like a koala bear! Very comfortable! I am curious, however, as to why the US version of these packs does not include the integrated rain cover. I purchased my AG 60 online, and it clearly came from Europe, as it has the integrated rain cover. For shorter hikes, especially solo, I have just ordered an AG 50 to go with the 65. I ordered from Europe, as I really like that integrated rain cover.

Great pack except for a couple of things.

I have mostly taken this pack with me on day hikes, no more than 10 miles at a time. This was to focus on section hiking the AT. If it's hot outside and I'm sweating, I notice that while having the sternum strap clipped, my nipples chafe from the shoulder straps rubbing them. I'm a guy if you're wondering. Also, as others have stated, opening and closing the hip pockets requires two hands. I also feel that the zero gravity claim is inadequate due to me having to take off the pack every few hours due to strain in my trapezoid muscles with no more than a 20# load, but that just might be my body. I really like the pack, but those few negatives might make me rethink taking it on a long haul. And as another stated, the pack can and does get squeaky.

Best pack I've ever worn

I had the original version of this pack, and sold that to my friend while deciding to get the current version for myself. I notice very little difference between the two, which is absolutely a positive, because Osprey had a great thing, and was smart enough to not mess with it! I initially went with this pack over the Aether because the Aether didn't have the AG webbing and the hip belt felt great, even without being a custom molded hip belt like the Aether. Even with the Aether AG, I like the feel of the webbing on this pack better, it really molds well to your body and you feel no pressure points! Even when getting out for the first time in the spring after not wearing it for many months, it feels great! Coming from a military background, I may be biased about the comfort, since most anything is more comfortable than an Army ruck, but I can also tell you that this pack holds up extremely well! I've spent days in pouring rain with it, carried heavy loads, and outright abused it, and it has not even begun to show wear. I was concerned that the AG webbing might eventually start tearing, but I have seen no signs of that, and owning many Osprey products, I know they would stand behind this pack if it ever did start to show wear and tear. Between the used one I sold my friend, and my other friend buying one, there are now 3 of us who regularly backpack together, all with the same pack (in different colors, of course). All-in-all, an absolutely GREAT pack, from a great brand. Well done Osprey.

Best pack I've ever owned

I contacted ospreys customer service about a problem with my older version of the atmos 65 ag. They prompted me to fill out a repair form and send in my pack to be evaluated by one of their experts. Within less than we week, I received an email saying that they could not fix my pack and offered to replace it with the brand new pack at no charge to me. Once I received my new pack 2 days later, I quickly tried it on with excitement. At first, my pack seemed to hurt my hips a lot and never had that problem with my previous one. I put all my gear in it and it still continued to hurt. So after leaving all my gear inside for 1 night and trying it on the next day, it felt amazing. no pain on my hips anymore and felt almost like I had any weight on my back. Their updated version of this pack is absolutely amazing and would recommend this to anyone either just starting into backpacking or have been hiking for many years. This is by far my favorite pack and can't wait to put many miles on it. Osprey truly stands behind their warranty and will continue to buy their products.
