Shopper : Can the lid be removed COMPLETELY (including tether) so the bottle can be placed on a fire in order to cook, or purify water?Jeremy P : Yes, the lid and tether can be removed completely. You may want to let the water cool some before replacing the cap so you don’t damage the gasket inside the lid. I have three of these bottles and am very satisfied.EDWARD R : Yes to both questions, that is the reason I purchased mine.
Shopper : How much does this bottle weigh?Sam L : I don’t know exactly but it is heavier than a nalgene bottle. It is more for a bushcrafting kit than for long distance back packing. It’s stout. If you are into weighing your equipment this is not for you. If you have reason for a piece of kit that you can cook in, carry water, use as a stove, kill your mother in law with, knock out a bear, then this is your weapon, err… water bottle I mean. Shopper : The specs say the diameter is 3.5, so will the 32 oz neoprene sleeve fit on it?DIANA K : The 32 oz neoprene sleeves are recommended to be used on 32 oz bottles according to the Nalgene website. You can try to contact them and try to find out if they will fit.

Solid high quality container

I really like this Nalgene Standard Stainless Bottle. Unlike one popular compeditor's bottle which I owned, this one has no bad odors. I like having the option to boil water in case my filter or other containers fail. It is a great size. Nests easily in my stainless cup. Very sturdy. I highly recommend.

If you want a bottle for the car, get a clean canteen with a sports top. But if you want the best bottle to support deep country hicking or bushcraft outings, I can't think of a better product . This is a solid and hefty bottle made of food grade SS. The wide mouth makes it ideal for cooking or melting snow. The simple design of the top and the bottle neck are great for easy removal of the leak proof top for cooking and hanging the bottle over a fire with a wire. This is a lifetime purchase and you won't regret it.
