Best bag I?ve ever owned

This backpack allows you to carry an abundance of equipment while remaining a convenient travel size. The way it hugs your body when worn is also indicative of a design team that knows how these packs should feel for trips of all durations

Daypack with a classic look

Beautiful materials. Love the thick cushion of the shoulder straps. The three way zipper takes getting used to, but actually lets you access more in the pack.

Affordable option!!

Only wish it had a spot for a water bottle or at least pals webbing on the side to add a water bottle holder. Also needs a bigger loop field for larger patches.

Great multipurpose bag

Bought this for work and as a dad bag. I?ve wanted one for years and it does not disappoint. Very comfortable to wear, looks great, easy to use. Fits laptop, tablet, notebook, water bottle, snacks, and workout clothes for work. In dad bag mode I pull out that stuff and drop in kids? water bottles and a pouch with diapers and wipes. Yesterday it also held two beach towels. The sternum strap is easily removable; I just keep it in the bag if I need it for a hike or something. I changed the lid compartment zipper pull to a bright yellow cord to distinguish it from the others. The color is not quite as brown as pictured, more greenish. Looks great, though my bag is supposed to be brown for work.

Perfect Size

I use this backpack for work because it looks incredibly clean and professional. As well as, 2 day trips I can fit everything I need in it. I like the elevated spot for my computer as well as the inside pockets. I was concerned at first for no outside pockets but this design actually works better.

1.5year review, extremely versatile

I wanted to wait a year or so to review this pack so I had plenty of time to field it. I have to give it 5 stars, it?s the entire package if you?re shopping in this category. How I use it? -Started life as my ?get home bag? with boots, technical clothing, water and gear to travel 30mi on foot. Not taking up much space in my truck -started to use when visiting construction job sites nationwide with a laptop, iPad, change of clothes , rain jacket and a night or 2 of hygiene/gear/chargers -Used as daypack for deer hunting packing warming/rain layers, optics, food/water and gear -Use all the time as a dump pouch? style bag when moving family and kids gear as well. Tuck the top into the main compartment and shove it all in! Why it gets 5: -Small enough as a personal item on airlines and tucks perfectly under seat in front of you with access to bag -Main compartment with the tri-zip only has 2 rectangular mesh pockets up high. This makes you pack light and simple and is easy to see or modify your load. -Top compartment is easy access for phones/optics/mags and can be reached overhead while wearing -this price point is dead on for this quality and a great entry into mystery ranch packs. -Small size again makes you pack light and simple and not load yourself down with unneeded items. -the toughness, technical features and design of a military pack with options to blend in and not stand out. My favorite size pack for my lifestyle day to day. MR hit it out of the park on this one!

Good bag. Well made.

Had this bag a few weeks now. Over all its a very well made bag. Tin cloth is nice. Wish the outside had a few more mollie attachments. A pocket would be good but that's all on me for overlooking those things. Makes a great go bag for the truck and fits my CZ Scorpion with mags nicely.

Great EDC backpack

I bought this backpack a month ago to replace another brand that didn?t have as much room. I?m able to comfortably fit a 15? laptop, the wires, 320z nalgene, a couple books, and some miscellaneous stuff all with ease.

Great EDC with bad zipper coating on Wildfire

I have an issue. I believe it?s specific to the Wildfire variant. Because the zipper guards are different than on other variants (they are glossy. They are peeling off after 2/3 of a year usage (see photos). And it is still continuing on. I?m considering to buy the plain black one. It?s a shame that the zippers on Wildfire are a they are, I like this colorway better. Otherwise it?s one of the best EDC out there. And I?m a backpack junkie.

bomb proof bag makes the perfect work/travel pack

Definitely one of the more unique looking packs out there and is right up there with other high-end bags I've had. The pack is extremely comfortable to wear. It rides high but this is a definite advantage. I appreciate that the sternum strap is included as in other companies, they often sell it as an accessory. The only real snag with the pack is that I DO use the inside mesh pockets on either side, and if the items are too heavy, it sort of makes the pack sag in the middle as it is tall and skinny in profile. If those mesh bags are loaded, it makes the rest of the pack sort of buckle in the middle despite the frame sheet helping it keep its form. The bag is nearly perfect though for a tough pack used for work, EDC, travel or a pleasant combination of all three. The only changes I made to the pack was using the excellent strap keepers made my Mystery Ranch to keep all the straps nice and tidy, I added a glow pull to the central zipper, and put a paracord wrap on the top handle. I really would urge MR to make a camo version of the 21L for the 18L urban assault. I would snap that up too!

Very high quality

Super high quality bag, top pocket is my favorite part for sure. The Tri-Zip feature is super useful so you can get into it without having to open a whole clam shell and everything falls out. I do wish it had a little bit more organization underneath the side mesh pockets inside the bag or the mesh pockets were a bit deeper but it isn't a huge deal.

Solid low key backpack for most jobs and missions

I have owned 5 different mystery ranch bags and i still think the urban assault is my favorite. I have the asap the front and 2 day assault. I personaly like the simplicity of the bag since you can customize it if you feel like it, but you can also keep it simple for urban low key edc uses, i personaly think the trizip design is perfect for people who need quick acces to their stuff such as medical kits and essential items in the bag wich is also why i love it because you can get to all your items at all times. Now for the cons. I dont really like the mesh they use since it will most likely not last as long as the other materials in the bag, and it honestly feels a bit flimsy, but that might be a thing of different taste. The zippers can be really hard to use sometimes wich can be an issue if your in an situation where your gear cant fail, but after use for a couple weeks or months the zippers work really well And for the pros The cordura they use feels extremely solid, and is the best iv'e seen on any packs The zippers are tough, and will deffinetly last The design is clean, and the back looks cool at all times It is extremely comfordable, and carries weight like a champ It has some really cool colorways All in all i feel like they could deffinetly change some things, but its still a solid pack:

Looks sweet, needs more features

I definitely like the look of the pack. Only had for a few days so this is preliminary. Could use a few more internal small sleeves for things like mini lights, multi-tools, knives, pens, etc., you know, the little things that you keep in an every day pack. Maybe those on one side with a d-ring for clipping things to, and a larger, deeper water bottle sleeve on the other. The little upper mesh pockets would just be a disorganized jumble of stuff if you put all of the little items in those. An internal load strap midway from the top to bottom so you could throw a light jacket or a hoodie and cinch it snug to the back of the pack, leaving more clear space for other items, would be nice. The shoulder straps would be more comfortable if they were thinner, wider and had a more ergonomic s-curve to them. Finally, a slightly beefier material for the body of the pack would make it feel more bomber and durable. Having said all that, I still like it and will take it out every now and then but it can't be my every day carry for these reasons, it just lacks utility. But it really looks good, sleek, minimalist, unfortunately somewhat to a fault.

I work in the field as a forestry consultant and this is the best day pack on the market. Holds all my essentials and is a comfortable carry.

Quickly becoming my new favorite backpack!

I had this bag for just a few days but I'm a backpack addict and I know instantly when a bag will fit my needs or not. And I may say that this bag right here is simply amazing. Really comfortable, rugged, enough organization, really practical and it has such unique looks. The comfort and ease of use is simply top notch. I made a few mods just for the sake of my own style but it's just an epic piece of gear. I believe this will last me a long time and I'm almost sure that this won't be the last Mystery Ranch bag I will own. I want this in many colors now! hahaha. Thanks for making such a great product.

Almost Perfect

I bought this as a ?quick reaction bag? ?8-hour bag? to replace my 5.11 Moab 10. The build quality is on point, the tri-zip is amazing, blah, blah, blah, I can tell what?s good about it all day However, 1. The small internal pocket design is horrible, if you put something too long in there, the bag may not close or you get your stuff bent. The design allow users to make mistakes. 2. The laptop compartment is not wide enough for A4 paper, however, it is big enough for me, it will fit my XPS 15. 3. No internal water bottle packet. If you look into it?s big brother Urban Assault 24, you can find two dump pouches that can hold water bottles and deep mash pocket which really can come in handy. Hey, it works for me, with sleek even fashionable design. UA24 is a bit too big for my taste, but this UA21 might not for everyone. Mystery Ranch, you know the solutions, improve it!

Best bag I've ever owned!

I've carried this bag daily for two years on a motorcycle, to work and outdoors. It's big enough for one night backpacking trips of you pack light and tie your sleeping pad to the bottom and can hold enough cloths for several days if you're traveling by car. It stands up to endless abuse without degrading. It's been overpacked, soaked, muddy, covered in snow, dropped, dragged and thrown. Extremely high quality product. The zippers and seams are very solid. Have recommended to several friends.

Great bomb proof bag

I bought this bag a month ago and it is now my go to when traveling. Everything is secure yet easy to get to when needed. I love that you can access the bottom of the bag when completely unzipped!

Have not Stopped Using this Bag

Since I received this bag, I have not stopped using it. I use it for work, I've used it for air travel. It's perfect for what I need. It's the right size for a laptop, book, notebooks, hydro flask, and of course snacks. The pockets near the top easily fit my pens, pencils, e-pens, and cans of dip. The top is perfect for my work badge, work cell, and pocket notebook. My only gripe, which I don't know how much of a gripe it is, the zippers are stiff and get caught often. It is not because they are cheap, it is because they are extra heavy duty. I'm hoping they break-in, and stop doing this.

Great Quality/Good Overall Size/Small Shortfalls

I bought this pack a about two months ago. The pack is very well built, with rugged material and sturdy zippers and stitching. The only thing keeping me from giving it a fifth star is that I wish it had the same organizational pockets found on the larger size models. Also, the laptop pocket that is supposed to fit a 15" laptop, does not fit all 15" models. My 15" Alienware, sadly does not fit.

Superb low-profile urban pack

I can?t say enough about the quality of the materials, hardware and overall design. The pack holds a significant amount of gear and affords me an opportunity to carry sensitive electronics without screaming ?TACTICAL? at on lookers. The stitching is bomber and the 3-way zip pull allows for easy access.

Solid contender for EDC

Got this in the eggplant colour for lugging my laptop, running shoes, gym gear and toiletries from home to office to gym and home 5 times a week. I wear this with my professional clothes (I?m a solicitor) and low-heeled pumps. (I value function over fashion when ?on duty?.) I only keep ?duffel? style backpacks so that I can get to bottom of the pack without taking everything out. Clamshell type openings don?t work because they take up twice the length when placed in the gym locker or bench. The UA21 is lightweight and ultra durable so it?s a good option if you have similar needs. The other other contenders are the Aer Fit Pack 2 and Duffel Pack 2, which are all heavier than the UA21 and don?t come in nearly as many exciting colourways. I only wish the UA21 has features of the UA24 (external water bottle pockets, separate laptop compartment, and more interior organisation. Overall, still happy with this pack, and will consider the UA24 if I need to carry more on an everyday basis.

Withstood dog attack

By wasp77

This backpack literally saved my life. I am a 25 year old female, 5'3", 125lbs. I use this pack for my EDC to and from the university where I teach. One evening I was getting out of my car and my neighbor's 135lb german shepherd lept the fence and came at me teeth bared, growling and snarling --- just like in the police TV shows. I used this bag to beat the dog back and keep the dog off of me. If I had not had this bag with me, I would likely still be in the hospital, or worse. Several hours ...

Awesome

I've had this pack for a few months. It is somewhat minimalist but can realistically work for a wide variety of needs. I have this black one and it does appear a touch tactical in person but not over the top. It helds my 15" laptop and all the acessories just fine on a trip to Colorado. The Fit, I'm 5' 8" is perfect but I pull the straps tight and use the sternum strap. I quit looking for a bag when I got this. Thankfully a store locally carried it and I could try it on. Awesome pack. Highly ...
