Game changer

Fits two people (with gear!) comfortably. My main tent is a Hubba 2 and the Mesh House doesn't feel much smaller on the inside. It is definitely much lighter than a standard tent with poles. Love the newer silicone fabrics, the days of flaking seam tape are over. I've used this for two years of backpacking and expect to get a few more. The bottom is still water tight, zippers are still in great shape. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I needed to. Set up is easy with trekking poles and a flat tarp.

Extremely light and quick to setup.

I've been looking for a 2p net tent for awhile to combine with my rab element 2 floor less tarp shelter. This was a near perfect option for me but hesitant because of the $200 price tag. Recently saw r.e.i had marked it down 25% and I pulled the trigger. I'm familiar with m.s.r products and this seems to reinforce my love for them. This option saves almost a pound from the rab version and equals the weight of the hmg echo 2 dynemma net tent. Also includes 6 of my favorite stakes meaning they will last a while. Thanks again r.e.i and m.s.r

Simple and Practical

This is a great simple and roomy (solo) option for summer adventures. Set up is simple and straight forward, fabrics are light and durable. If I was using a Mesh House for two people on a multi-day trip, I would go with the 3 person version. A lack of any organizational pockets on the inside of the Mesh House make it nice to have some space to get your essentials inside the shelter on longer missions.

Part of a great modular shelter system.

The best part about this bug shelter for me is the way it can be quickly setup underneath an existing tarp, allowing the tarp to be used as a cooking shelter/windbreak and then putting up the netting when it's time for bed. Setting up the tarp first also lets the mesh house stay dry during rainy setup/breakdowns. The solid nylon on one end is also very nice at blocking the weather when you're using trees to make a ridgeline and can't quite get the tarp oriented perfectly perpendicular to the wind. I would recommend the mesh house 3 for two people, but the 2 is great for one person on an extended trip, lots of room to organize.

Mesh Palace?

If you are really counting grams this might not be the ideal shelter for you. However, after seeing three black widows crawling on my draped mosquito netting, I have been thrilled to stay the night in a more refined setup. Plus, the bathtub floor has meant that even fifty mile per hour winds stayed off us at night. Here in the desert southwest I tend to pitch this without a tarp overhead giving great views of the sky, and the mesh house has roominess for two with a nice high ceiling to boot. Note: i don't use trekking poles, it hangs well when used similar to an A-frame tarp. The thing even has a storm wall. The rear wall of the mesh house, which is a continuous piece of material with the floor, could be very handy to prevent rain blowing in during bad weather. I consider it a nice touch, after using the ""Ray-way"" mesh insert for a month on the CT. Ray's modular design calls for a separate storm flap, but I like the simplicity of this piece. There are other fine details such as stand-up corners, a good zippered entry and simple pockets and gear loops that make this a great functional shelter for desert and beyond. With the reliability of MSR products, I am looking forward to many more nights in this ""house"" away from home. Finally, while it would be nice if this were made from some magical material that was 8 oz. lighter, I am not waiting around for spider's silk. Nope, this shelter is great the way it is.

Light and simple

I work as a backpacking guide and was looking for a lightweight modular shelter depending on where I am, time of year and weather. This is perfect. I combined this with the 70 wing and I can roll with one or both depending on the circumstances. To keep me from having an arsenal of tents and bivies this is perfect to provide for most of my needs while Im out. Downside is it is kind of expensive and I cant yet really speak to durability. Set up isn't too hard although if youre used to setting up freestanding tents this will take a bit of practice. Totally worth it. Only other difficulty is learning not to kick out your trekking pole when youre trying to get in the shelter.

Nice and roomy

Just got back from a fastpack on the Appalachian trail with my dog. First time with my new MSR Mesh House 2. Really happy, it went up fast strung between two trees. Great quality and lots of room.

Lightest option with the most room!

I bought this tent for a few reasons, making it very multi purpose. For one, Texas summers are brutal and my other REI tent just doesn't cut it when it comes to keeping me cool. This tent has so much mesh that I can sleep comfortably and get just enough ventilation while keeping the bugs out. Second, I've been working on going more ultralight with my gear. After shopping around at MSR and other brands of tents/bivys/bugnets/DIY options, I found that this would be the best and lightest option that provided the most comfortable space. And at the best price! I pair this with my Hyperlite Mountain Gear cuben fiber tarp that I decided to spend some coin on last Christmas. The two make a wonderful pair. If I didnt already have that tarp, I definitely would have bought the accompanying MSR tarp. This 2 person size is very comfortable when I'm bringing someone else along, but I would very much love to see a 1 person size in the future from MSR around the $130 mark for some solo trips and thru hikes I plan to do. Even lighter!

Ultralight weight is critical for thru-hikers and long-distance backpackers, and at .41 kg (14 oz), this shelter meets that requirement and others: excellent ventilation, good protection, and enough livable space for two to be comfortable for weeks or months on the trail. It's also an extremely packable and adaptable shelter.

Use the Mesh House on its own for bug-free protection-a necessity in the High Sierras-or pair it with the Thru-Hiker 70 or 100 Wing (sold separately) for added wind and rain coverage. Whatever the trail-AT, PCT, CDT or TBD-this shelter system lets you configure the right combination of weight and protection that's right for your trip, and any section along the way.
