Seven months of sleep? That’s one long nap! As winter approaches, hibernating animals are eating their fill of what food they can find in preparation for their long rest.

The American black bear is one of many species of animals that hibernate through the winter months. With little to no food available, a bear’s hormones naturally trigger the hibernation process. Learn more about hibernation while watching this mother bear leading her two cubs into the den that will be their home during their long winter’s nap. Black bears are considered “light sleepers” among those animals that spend the winter at rest, and will wake if disturbed or threatened.
