Natural disasters are becoming more common and likely during these turbulent times. For that reason, it would be wise for you to assemble a 72 hour survival kit with some items that can help you survive for a least three days while rescue teams make their way to you. The following are seven that you will make sure that you have on your survival kit checklist!

Water

Water is the number one most essential item that you will ever need in an emergency. Water can keep you hydrated, healthy and alive far longer than you would be with just food in your package. You should have at least three gallons or a case of little water bottles in your 72 hour survival kit. If you find yourself running low on bottled water, a superb alternative is a water purification device.

First Aid Kit

The first aid kit is the next essential item in case someone has cuts, burns and so on. You could help that person to clean the wounds and then stop the bleeding while you are waiting for someone to show up for help.

Flashlight

The flashlight can be your best friend in this time of darkness. Make sure that you put one away for yourself. Even in extremely inexpensive one can be lifesaver for you. Many outdoorsman will bring a flash light in addition to a head lamp, which are great for handsfree lighting!

Blankets

You’ll need some blankets so that everyone who is with you can get some rest, comfort and warmth if it’s very cold. Pack at least two blankets, one for sleeping and one for an additional layer in your pack.

Food

Of course, you’re going to want to pack some food, but it should be smart food that doesn’t expire anytime soon and can be opened at any time. Crackers, dry raisins, chips, peanuts and things like that are just a few ideas. Your possibilities are actually endless.

Utensils

You’ll need some utensils for stuff that isn’t finger food, so don’t forget to pack away some plastics for when the time comes to chow down. Although forks and knives are pretty light and easy to pack, a well know hack is to simply use a spork.

Can Opener

Finally, a can opener would be a great option if you’re thinking about packing something like sardines or tuna fish. Things like a paracord knife or Swiss army knife are great alternatives, plus they have other functional uses!

Those are just some ideas for your 72 hour survival kit. You can make your package bigger or smaller, whatever you prefer. Just make sure that you have something put together so that you wont get caught without resources.
