Looks like someone’s been playing in the genetics lab again. This video of not one Jerboa, but two adorable Jerboas may have you wondering what the heck th if they’re a hybrid of a kangaroo and field mouse. got crossed with a field mouse but, never fear, no mad scientists were involved.
This cute little critter, with its oversize ears and long, tufted tail is a native of the Middle East. Over years it’s physiology has adapted for life in harsh, dry climates. In fact, they are so well adapted to the heat that they don’t even drink water. That’s right, they get all the moisture their tiny bodies need from the plants and insects they eat. Despite their small stature, the jerboa can jump several feet in one bound, a handy way to avoid predators. They have a place in history as well. The speed of this rodent so astounded the British 7th Armoured Brigade during WWII, the division adopted them as their mascot. With the fast and furry animal appearing on their patches the unit became known as “The Desert Rats,” as they are still called today.
