The tiny pygmy rabbit is a North American native, living primarily in the Great Basin, a hydrographic desert area that covers much of Nevada and parts of Idaho, Wyoming, California, and Oregon. This area seems to suffer from a bit of a split personality. While it is considered a desert, the scant 7-12 inches of precipitation it sees each year mainly falls in the form of snow.

Living in such a variable climate creates additional challenges when it comes to finding food and avoiding predators. The pygmy rabbit shares its home with mountain lions, coyotes, and long-tailed weasels, among many others animals. The smallest rabbit in North America, the pygmy weighs just one pound. This tiny fellow would make a tasty treat for a hungry weasel…if he can catch him, that is. Watch as this pygmy rabbit attempts to outfox his fleet footed foe in the snowy Great Basin.
