Veracruz, located in the southeastern vicinity of Mexico, is home to a wide array of ecosystems — no less than 9 specific regions exist here, including mountains, deserts, and low lying coastal lands. There are over 40 rivers and tributaries in Veracruz, providing endless water adventures on kayaks, rafts, or canoes for day trips as well as longer expeditions. Of course, there are varying routes that will accommodate all experience levels, and there is plenty of lush flora and interesting fauna to observe along the way. Although balmy days are the norm in this Gulf state, it is not unusual to see snowy peaks at higher elevations, adding a surreal backdrop to a hot and humid landscape. If outdoor exploration in Mexico is more your bag than posting up at the beach with a bottle of tequila, Veracruz is a place you’ll definitely want to check out.
