It’s not every day we here at SunnyScope are wowed by a sleeping bag, but when we saw the latest innovation in outdoor sleeping systems to hit the SunnySports shelves, we couldn’t help but get excited over the sheer genius of this concept from Sierra Designs. Ladies and gentlemen, we bring you the Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 30F 2-Season Sleeping Bag:

If you’re thinking to yourself that this bag looks a little weird, you’d be absolutely right. Instead of using the traditional full-length zipper down the left, right, or both sides of the bag, Sierra Designs changed it up entirely by creating an opening large enough for an adult to climb in and out of that stays open, and an integrated comforter that allows the user to sleep comfortably in a variety of positions, just like sleeping in a normal bed.

This bag eliminates consideration toward whether you’re left or right handed, which doesn’t seem like that big of a deal — if you’re right handed! Rated down to 30F, this bag is suitable for two-season use, and is packed with features that make this model one of the best Sierra Designs sleeping bags on the market today.

The backside of the Backcountry Bed has an integrated pocket for your sleeping pad, keeping it in place right underneath you through the night, no matter how much you flail in your sleep. The catenary opening, while large enough to climb through, is smaller than the width of the bag, which allows for it to be easily sealed when the comforter is pulled inside.

For those who like to sleep on their stomachs, but find it to be uncomfortable or too hot within the confines of a traditional sleeping bag, the comforter portion has sewn-in hand and arm warmer pockets so you can spread out without excessively cooling your upper body. For back sleepers that also get too warm, the comforter can be folded down in front allowing you full ventilation while keeping your hands and arms warm at the same time.

Always bouncing back and forth between cold and sweaty feet? The Backcountry Bed has a self-closing foot pocket you can poke your foot through when the temperature rises without exposing your lower body to cold air. Ventilate both your feet at the same time by folding the pocket outward, or just a toe at a time — this bag is designed to fulfill your whims!

The 600 fill DriDown is specially treated with a molecular polymer that ultimately results in a hydrophobic finish, ensuring every individual down plume resists moisture and stays dry. And perhaps best of all, the Backcountry Bed weighs in at just three pounds, making this Sierra Designs sleeping bag a great choice for backpackers and other campers that like to keep things light. Available in Long and Women’s sizes.

This demonstration video from Sierra Designs will get you more acquainted with the revolutionary new design in outdoor sleep systems.
