When talking about white water rafting, most people’s minds immediately go to terrifying images of people being thrown off of rafts in the middle of a torrential rapid, splitting open some part of their bodies on the massive boulders in the river, or worse — never seen again by their fellow oarsmen. While there are certainly rivers that have been responsible for these types of tragedies, not all white water rapids are created alike. If you want to try this sport, no responsible rafting guide is going to throw a virgin into a Class 6 tour and hope you pay really good attention to the safety presentation. There are many places in the US where you can experience white water rafting at a slightly mellower pace, and even kids can enjoy the thrill of helping the team man a boat through the awesome power of Earth’s many rivers. One such place is on the American River in the Sacramento Valley of California. Check out this video that gives you a little view into the world of white water rafting, and consider making it part of your summer vacation!
