It’s spring and love is in the air! This time of year, many of nature’s creatures put on colorful displays in order to attract a mate. Birds, bees, and even spiders get in on the game! The aptly named peacock spider is no exception. This colorful fellow puts on a snazzy dance for his would-be mate, shaking his bright and vibrant tail end.

These tiny troubadours only grow about as big as a pencil eraser, and each male has his own unique dance moves. In fact, the better the dance, the less likely they are to be eaten by a disappointed female. And you thought Simon Cowell was certainly a harsh critic! Native to Australia, two new species of this spider have recently been discovered, the Sparklemuffin and the Skeletorus. Nothing very terrifying there!

In this charming video, the colorful male puts his best foot forward for the female of his dreams, a larger brown spider looking on in awe. This artistic arachnid could charm even the most squeamish arachnophobe with his beautiful tail and earnest face.
