If you’re a camping enthusiast, you’ve likely looked into all kinds of camping stoves beyond the popular gas canister stove. While there’s nothing wrong with this type of stove, it’s a good idea to have an alternative or two as a backup option in case your go-to stove will not work in a certain situation or fails altogether. We’re big fans of DIY projects for outdoor adventuring here at SunnyScope, so of course we were intrigued when we came across this video explaining how to build your own rocket stove.

A rocket stove is a simple, yet very efficient cooking tool that requires few materials to build, and is easy to fuel with small twigs. The fuel burns hot and consistent due to the design of the rocket stove, which uses a vertical chimney to produce the necessary updraft for maintaining combustion. A small bundle of twigs will easily provide the burn time needed to boil water, heat soup, or even fry a sandwich in a pan, which you’ll see demonstrated in the video. A little elbow grease is required to put all the parts together, but with just a one gallon paint can, a couple of soup cans, gravel, and sand, you’ll have a fully functioning rocket stove in just a couple hours that will last a very long time. Check it out!
